can someone please help me. i installed some windows updates and restarted. now i can’t log on my laptop anymore. It says it needs to activate by internet or phone. is there fix for this? I was running xp pro sp3.
even better option is the FREE avira antivir!!!
I prefer common sense. Never had a virus (yes, I scan in safe mode sometimes to check) on my laptop for over a year. No programs running in the background slowing your computer down either :o)
Good av,even if i use Avira free. Will they ever change the horrble GUI???
What happened with AVG?

“Since the fckup by AVG last week…”
Anyone know the details?
@Wookie
it said user32.dll was a virus if i remember correctly
correct im wrong people
Avg detected a legitimate windows file as a trojan causing failure to retart normally on some PC’s.They fixed it in a few hours although it was to late for some PC’s and less techy users which most of users are ,causing them to lose data.Avg is a enemy of p2p anyway.
avast is the worst anti-virus and in 2nd place (of worst) comes norton.
AVG fu**ed up other language versions of Windows - they identified a key windows file as a virus and when removed Windows won’t boot - BSOD…usual BS
Cheers for the update Kennii & ak.
Quoting someone else:
“A recent update to the free AVG 8.0 Virus Scanner has resulted in a critical Windows XP system file called user32.dll being falsely identified as infected. Removal of this file results in not being able to bootup your system. This problem only affects Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish language versions of Windows XP, and there is an official fix available here ( http://free.avg.com/faq.num-1576 ), and here ( http://free.avg.com/faq.num-1577 ) if you don’t have an XP installation CD.”
i love this a/v i use it all the time never rly liked avg, norton or macfree they all had probs and the 2nd two were major resource hogs
#6 and #1 You have to crack Windows Product Activation Check, try using and bootcd like MiniPE and patch your system.

@16
if u were using a crack to activate it, windows probably detected it and deleted it
@ 10 - yah not as good as McAfee like when it identified explorer.exe as a virus right - now that’s a REAL AV - -they don’t screw around with those piddly little files - they go for the gusto…just remove the OS and no virus possible…excellent thinking

@ 16
pour water in the back vents of your laptop that fixed it for me.
Hahha@22
I don’t know why people say Avast is worse.
Avast in my experience is really really good. Has a very low memory footprint.
Virus scanning wise, it has caught all the viruses that i manage to get on my USB stick from College. Not one virus has gotten onto my computer with avast on it.
kaspersky or nod32 is better than avast
Infected file!
After a scan with Avast on my notebook, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware found 7 trojans (4 was the same strain). This should say all!
Also you can try SOLO antivirus. Small and fast Antivirus. Very small footprint.
Don`t look too much for “tests”. The companies pay money for a good test I mean.

i agree with darkwolf i got nod 32 and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and 2nd one is the best for trojans etc..
@4 Agree, Avira is very good, the best of the “free” AVs out there..
And even though they say they won’t give support to the “free” version users, they do reply on questions with in a few hours. =)
File keygen.exe is infected. http://www.virustotal.com/fr/analisis/48ae38218ea19c3cf5074517b8ab834e
Using Kaspersky, much better than avast.
Less false positives and better antivirus engine.
Bought legit ver. for a year, and I’m happy with it.
#6: restart in safe mode and look for a new crack on the web for your version of windows.
Or install XP Corporate which does not require activation.
avg 8 says keygen trojan
@16 Please Help Had the same problem on my comp( All legal) XP pro sp3 update.Froze my comp .Could not get anything to open,,could not use icons, nothing..Unpluged all power then rebooted, everything back to normal.Don,t know what happens to a laptop but iff safe and nothing else works maybe pull the battery and put back in .
Avast is one of the best virus scanners - much better than norton/kapersky/avg.
pay for avira is ok too, but not the free one.
Avast is good. It picks-up waaaaay more questionable stuff than Norton or McCafee. The only problem is the number of false-positives.
Been using Avast Home (the free edition) for about 4 years now. Never had a problem or a virus, and I go ocassionaly to some questionable sites : ). Switching to different skin, disabling sounds and enabling quiet autoupdates i a MUST though.
#10 (’antivirus’):
Get your head out of your 4rse before spouting such know-nothing cr4p. A simple googling of ANY antivirus-app-comparison site will show you that Avast comes quite high in the rankings (third at http://www.av-comparatives.org/).
Personally, i use Avira Premium - I switched from AVG free a while back…

You both are aware that the subject is “avast” having had a problem with one of their updates? AVG and Avast are 2 different Anti-virus scanners….AVG is the shizznit!….
nod32 takes the cake for me
Keygen is embedded with a win32 trojan, I got this same upload off of a torrent last night and scanned it. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS !!

like most of the programs here at rlslog this one has a free virus too
I had been using AVG for years. ver8 made to way too hungry. I only just changed to AVAST FREE and it works great. Go n download the FREE version and save yourself the issues posted above
Anyone spreading infected files should have a testicle removed with a spoon
@46, right click on the blue avast taskbar icon, click in program settings, and then go to the sounds tab in the settings panel that pops up. You can now disable all sounds or click on the sounds settings section and manually pick which ones you want to turn off. Note: Clicking on the sounds settings just takes you to the windows sounds settings, there is an avast section in there. If you have Vista you can just right click on the speaker in your taskbar and select sounds to get to the same place.
can someone tell me if this has a virus or not in it.
