New Asian film released by CoWRY, it’s in Chinese however comes with subtitles. Based on a true story – which is pretty tough to believe. Jump! Ashin strains credibility thanks to its convenient plot devices, though the narrative leaps are supposedly the stuff of fact. The fine performances (from Eddie Peng and Ko Yue-Lun) and solid emotions compensate. A very likable film.

Ashin loves gymnastics. As a kid, he was quickly hooked and as an adult it’s his number one love. Yes, more than girls, and this is despite looking like Eddie Peng and probably having his pick of women in his rural Taiwan town. However, Ashin’s mother (Pan Li-Li) disapproves of gymnastics and asks that Ashin give it up to run the family fruit stand for, well, eternity. Ashin does, but soon becomes a delinquent, hanging with buddy Pickles (Lawrence Ko Yue-Lun) and getting into all sorts of trouble. Pickles becomes a drug addict and the two run afoul of a gang boss’ son (Chen Han-Dian), so Ashin and Pickles flee to Taipei and continue their thug lifestyle. But gymnastics is always there, calling to Ashin like a long-lost love. Eventually, Ashin chooses to return home and back to the pommel horse, but can a loser like Ashin still find it in himself to become a medal-winning gymnast? And hey, isn’t this a totally ridiculous premise?

FiCO have released a fairly older film named ‘SS Nazi Convoy’. SS Nazi Convoy (a.k.a. Convoy of Girls, East of Berlin) is a 1978 cult film by Jesus Franco.

Young German officer Erich von Strasser (Jean-Marie Lemaire) leaves his fiance and heads off to war. Stock footage of Nazi desert warfare plays and before you know it Erich is back in Germany, recipient of the Iron Cross and a national war hero. First stop the whorehouse then, naturally. Where he bumps into his fiance, awkward. Cue a flashback showing how/why she ended up there and after a night of passion Erich goes to his superiors asking she be freed. Unfortunately, for reasons still unclear to me, she is shipped off to another location and Erich sets off in pursuit.

Open on gorgeous swamplands of the Atchafalaya Basin in the summer. Lots of beautiful teens are at the beach the weekend before Gator Fest. That night an animal smuggling deal goes wrong and a large sea creature escapes into a swampy backwoods river. At the McDaniel’s “Gator Shack” restaurant, a local, Jackson is drunk, and gets mangled to bits. The town sheriff blames the carnage on the McDaniel’s “escaped” pack of gators and tries hauling them off to jail. Rachel McDaniel, head of the family, claims to have seen the fin of a shark! Rachel and her family, along with the help of a mysterious stranger, Charlie, take on the Swampshark and the law to clear their names, save Rachel’s kid sister Krystal and prevent the unwitting folks at the upcoming Gator Fest from being torn to shreds by a beast the likes of which no one has ever seen!

Group KzT have released a reissued version of Lagwagon’s Lets Talk About Feelings. The release consist of the original tracklist plus demos, outtakes, ep’s, b-sides.

After releasing “Double Plaidinum” in 1997, SoCal punk heroes Lagwagon were inspired and damn-well determined to put out a gem of a punk-rock record. 1998 gave new light to the Lagwagon scene. They dropped their guitarist of two years Ken Stringfellow and recruited RKL alum Chris Rest. Now (with two guitarists named chris), Lagwagon eagerly entered the studio to record what was to be their shortest, but nevertheless, greatest album ever to be graced with the beautiful Lagwagon logo.
