KTB Small News Post

Just a small news post in this slow news week. It’s really small so don’t tell me it’s small, I know it is. There hasn’t been a lot of interesting news lately which will change as soon as the holidays are coming with the GeForce 9 series, a shitload of games and a few movies I’d really like to see. Any good movie worth watching in theaters will be reviews on opening night (more or less depending on where you live since not all movies have a world wide release) on KTB. Thats all for now, enjoy what little news there was this week.

KTB’s Movie News Summary 23-09-07

In this movie news summary we’ve got a number of game to movie adaptions that are on the way, Keanu Reeves returning to the sci-fi genre, a new Rambo trailer and the first trailer for Aliens VS Predator Requim as well as an interesting side-note on the imminent end of the format war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Did I forget to mention a Crank sequel as well as news on Vin Diesel in the fourth Fast and the Furious movie?

I made good use of the MORE function in WordPress this time, so either check this out at your own will or just skip it and don’t comment on how much you hated this post since no one forced you to choose to click on the MORE button! I will say it again, read this post ONLY if you’re interested and if not don’t even bother bitching about it.

KTB News Summary 15-09-07

Hey guys, it’s Kevin here. Martin agreed to let me post some tech news and that sort of stuff on here. I’m doing this because I’m already posting these exact same things in my own WordPress based blog which means that all I have to do is put in some work on my very own KTB and then simply take 5 seconds to copy and paste the same post over to RLSLOG. Lazy? Hell yes. Interesting? I’ll have to see about that. Please tell me whether or not to continue posting these news summaries in RLSLOG in the comments of this post. And no, I won’t change the way I do these. For that type of criticism please go to my own blog and do that there. I’ve also decided not to whore my blog here so for those of you who know where to find it, good for you, if not then a simple Google will do the trick too.

No DX10 in ID Tech5. A weird choice for a nextgen engine with cheap DX10 cards becoming available and the inevitable switch to Vista that awaits every Windows user.

GI: Will this engine support any DX10 features? Carmack: No, not currently. We’re not expecting to. We’re not sure if we’re going to be a Vista title or not. There will be some support benefits by being Vista only. It depends when we get the game done what the adoption has been. But it’s a OpenGL title on the PC and Mac right now, obviously D3D on the 360, and the PS3 it’s kind of an in between where it’s Open GLES but we do a lot of direct command buffer writing there. If necessary we can move the PC version over to DX10, but there’s not much strong pull for us to do that. All of the toolset is in OpenGL, I wouldn’t want to convert everything over.

GI: You didn’t seem to hot on DX10 or Vista at CES.

Kevin’s Blog Update

Hey guys, it’s Kevin again! It’s been more then one month since I’ve started my own blog and since then a few things have changed. Reviews will become a more prominent feature on my blog, as well as summaries of news rather then sloppy individual posts for small news. I’m almost done with high school which means that there’ll be more time to review movies as well as games. Video reviews are in the planning stages but are currently not possible because of technical issues. Apps will also be reviewed if deemed worthy and of course there’s a lot of news on games, movies, hardware and more! It may seem as if I’ve gotten lazy but as previously mentioned I’m busy with my finals which is a very busy period but I’m still dedicated and doing my best to provide you guys with news and maybe a review every now and then. Check out my blog and leave any criticism or suggestions in the shoutbox!

Windows Vista brute-force attack appears to be a hoax!

Yesterday word came out that the Windows Vista validation check was easily fooled by a simple bruteforce-attack. Today it turns out that this was not true. Many were surprised that such an old method was able to do the job, when Microsoft spend many years developing a fool-proof security system for Windows Vista. Many forums were also confused as to whether this was possible, since the keygen made up random keys and even included characters that were not even used in valid Vista keys. Despite of this hoax, just yesterday news was published about a way to hack Vista by flashing your BIOS. This appears to be valid up ’till now. There was also an alternative way to do this by using a bootable CD or a USB-stick. Vista has become the #1 target for many hackers, probably because of claims from Microsoft saying that Vista’s security was waterproof. Next time Microsoft will probably instruct their PR personnel to keep their mouths shut about Vienna’s security…

EA Trax now being sold!

It would seem EA finally found out that music can also be sold as a product, and so they started selling all their unreleased soundtracks through iTunes and their own online store. This is probably the best move EA has made in the last couple of years, next to publishing Valve games and Crytek’s Crysis without giving these studios the “EA touch”. (Impossible deadlines, crap quality on release, no more further support after it’s been released and also a yearly update that adds nothing but updated licenses and slight impoved graphics.) Check it out here: EA Trax.
