Resin Dogs - More Or Less 2008

More or Less is a gigantic cut above the regular run-of-the-mill remix albums. The calibre of artists that this project has attracted is the first indication of just how special More or Less is going to be. As remixes for the project first started seeing the light of day, it was evident that quality material would be shining through on this album. Peace and Love was always a crowd favourite making it an easy choice as the first single from More or Less.

Enriched by the distictive vocals of Demolition Man, Peace and Love is already a bowl of beats that keeps you moving. Add in a little bit of Two Fresh magic and you have a very spicy remix of Peace and Love that will be taking over dance floors quicker than John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. As a timely reminder that the Resin Dogs are not taking a break from delivering A-Grade entertainment, keep your ears open for a few more very exciting instalments in the More or Less saga.

Prodigy - Product Of The 80’s

New York in the 1980’s: Crack cocaine, Reaganomics, The ColdWar, The Iran-Contra scandal, U.S. Recession, Wall Street greed and collapse, the explosion of graffiti and break-dancing, the advancement of Hip Hop into the consciousness of America. The decade was a nefarious era, the city landscaped in political turmoil and economic crisis. But out of this wreckage came the development of what had been dismissed as a fad into a thriving industry called Hip Hop, a creative juggernaut which went on to change the world. Prodigy, Big Twins and Un Pacino were raised in this era. Born in the late 70’s, they grew up in a culture steeped in controversy and contradiction. Each walked a path through the rotted streets, by any means necessary. Violence, poverty, drugs and indulgence were part and parcel. This project harkens back to this epoch through the frontline survivors themselves.

Likewise, the contributing producers draw exclusively from the records that were garnered in that fundamentally diametric period. Welcome to “Product of the 80s”.
Prior to his current incarceration, Prodigy made a home at Dirt Class Studios in Brooklyn. Often he arrived alone and left alone. No entourage, no groupies, no crew. This left the emphasis on Prodigy, the man and his words. Dirt Class became his sanctuary where he could productively write and record without distraction. The duo of Joey and Bravo (better known as Sid Roams) hosted these sessions and provided the bulk of the soundtrack. The chemistry was evident and the result was a copious amount of new material from Prodigy. The result of this effort is uncut and undiluted “Product of the 80s”.

Statik Selektah - Stick 2 The Script

Woow, I just got out of bed and saw this release. Couldnt wait to post it so here it goes!

Establishing his own spot amongst the ranks of East Coast hip-hop’s seminal figures, DJ/producer Statik Selektah utilized his turntabling skills and ingenuity in PR and promotions to break some of the region’s most promising artists, bearing his own influence on the national mixtape circuit. Born January 23, 1982 in Lawrence, MA, Patrick Baril was exposed to production equipment at a very early age, tinkering with his parents’ eight-track machine, cassette recorders, and turntable. By middle school, he was already DJing school functions, but he was inspired to be a true wheels-of-steel artiste after hearing. Managing all of these tasks became much easier when he established in 2003 his own PR/marketing firm ShowOff. In 2006, he turned ShowOff into an official record label, with Termanology & Producer DC’s Out the Gate LP as its first release. By this time, though, Selektah’s prestige had grown considerably. His radio shows were playing in several places, from London to Mobile, AL; he produced beats for many artists, including Foxy Brown, AZ, and Joell Ortiz; and most importantly, the DJ dished out tons of mixtapes with big name and up-and-coming artists, such as Nas, Q-Tip, John Legend, Royce Da 5′9 (The Bar Exam, co-hosted with DJ Premier), and Saigon. In fourth quarter 2007, Selektah finally got to promote himself and his beats, entirely producing his official Spell My Name Right debut album. Striking back a year later, Selektah returns with the highly buzzed about Stick 2 The Script LP October 21st, 2008.

Diamond D - The Huge Hefner Chronicles

New LP from Diamond D. He was part of DITC back in the days. Worth checking out. Brought by C4, enjoy this.

Legendary Producer/MC/DJ Diamond D, constituent of the seminal collective D.I.T.C. (also included Fat Joe, Big L. & more), has signed a multi-album deal with renowned indie Babygrande Records. His inaugural release with the label will be October 14th’s “The Huge Hefner Chronicles,” Diamond’s third official release and first offering in 3+ years. Over the years, aside from independently releasing his subsequent two LP’s, Diamond has remained an active participant behind the boards, having contributed his trademark style to some of the most iconic records in hip-hop history including The Fugees’ “The Score,” A Tribe Called Quest’s “The Low End Theory,” as well as releases by Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch & many more.

With “The Huge Hefner Chronicles,” Diamond returns to form, with a record that recalls the nostalgic stylings of the “golden age,” while maintaining a contemporary sensibility accessible to the modern day hip-hop head. This duality of form is on full display on the first single from the forthcoming LP, entitled “D-I-A-M-O-N-D.” A vicious head-nodder, the track instantly explodes into a “golden-age” inflected beat, produced by none other than the infamous beat maestro Nottz (Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Scarface, J Dilla, Snoop Dogg & more). Diamond answers with the lyrical fluidity that only a vet of his stature can offer. “D-I-A-M-O-N-D” is the feel-good back-to-school jam that hits the sweet spot for both purists and modern day heads alike.
