Placebo – Battle for the Sun (2009)

Here is the newest album for British rock group Placebo.  I know these guys have a very hardcore fanbase, and a lot of people have been waiting very eagerly for this release.

2009 release, the sixth studio album from the British Alt-Rock trio. With a 13 year history that takes in five studio albums, 10 million album sales, breakdowns, clean ups and the dizzy swell of global success, Placebo return with their first album since the release of Meds in 2006. Battle For The Sun was recorded over three months by producer Dave Bottrill (chosen by the band largely because of his work with Tool) in his Toronto studio and mixed in London by Alan Moulder. Battle For The Sun is a startling, alive, vital and boundary-vaulting record that marks a whole new era for a band that were in need of a change.

Bloc Party – Intimacy Remixed (Promo) (2009)

Here is a new remix album, the subject being the last Bloc Party album, Intimacy.  I’ve seen Bloc Party live and like them quite a bit, and although remixes are generally kind of hit or miss, I figured there’d be a demand for this release.

Bloc Party’s ground-breaking third album, Intimacy, has been remixed by a selection of guest artists, including Armand Van Helden, and frontman Kele Okereke’s musical heroes Mogwai. The first single will be Armand Van Helden’s remix of ‘Signs’. The ‘Phones RIP’ remix of ‘Talons’ is also the last time producer Paul Epworth will use the ‘Phones’ moniker, the first time being a remix of the Bloc Party song ‘Banquet’. Limited to 5K copies!

Track Listing:

1. Ares – Villains Remix
2. Mercury – Herve Is In Disarray Remix
3. Halo – We Have Band Dub
4. Biko – Mogwai Remix

Asher Roth – Alseep in the Bread Aisle (2009)

I’m sure some people out there have been waiting a while for this, the first major label album from hip hop star Asher Roth, whose single “I Love College” is already a big hit in both the US and the UK.

PUTTING ASIDE THE INTRICATE CADENCE FOR A MOMENT, 23-year old emcee Asher Roth succinctly sums up his raison d’etre with the above lines. While so many rappers are delivering tired rhymes to back up their fake back stories, Asher Roth has quickly emerged as the future: a hip-hop anomaly grounded enough to take pride in his suburban roots but confident and talented enough to have already earned the respect of rap royalty such as 50 Cent, Ludacris, Akon, and Andre 3000. In the summer of 2008, then unknown Asher Roth’s debut mixtape, The Greeenhouse Effect Vol. 1, hit the internet. Hosted by legendary Atlanta DJs, DJ Drama and Don Cannon, the mixtape caught the attention and respect of finicky hip hop fans across the web. Over the next few months, hip hop and indie music press outlets featured Roth in select publications. The buzz lifted him onto the cover of XXL in November 2008. Since then, every major media outlet from Rolling Stone to MTV to Playboy has named Asher Roth the artist to watch in 2009. Roth backs up the buzz with his energetic and witty debut album, Asleep In The Bread Aisle. The album’s sound fuses influences from hip hop, rock and rhythm & blues to create a masterpiece for the ages. The first single, “I Love College”, debuted with full rotation across the MTV networks, and over 100 radio station adds on Alternative, Rhythmic/Xover and Top 40 radio. With a humble and hard working demeanor, a vigorous live show and MC skills to match, the sky is the limit with Asher Roth.

Death Cab for Cutie – The Open Door (EP)

Here is the newest EP from indie rock outfit Death Cab for Cutie. Just a 5 song EP, but I hope it’s enough for fans to get their fix while waiting on their next album.

For those not familiar with Death Cab their sounds are reminiscent of R.E.M. and the Pixies. They could be defined by their melodic guitar, distinguished vocals of lead singer and band founder Benjamin Gibbard as well as for their heartfelt, intelligent lyrics. Lyrically they highlight the human soul when it comes to the reality of relationships; the assurance, confusion, ultimate high and face scraping lows.

And now is as good of time as any to get acquainted with Death Cab for Cutie. On the heels of Narrow Stairs they are keeping the momentum rolling by releasing a new EP, Open Door. It will be available by digital retailers on Tuesday, March 31st and in stores on April 14th. You can preview their EP online at Stereogum. Enjoy!

K-Os – Yes! (2009)

Here is the new album from Canadian alternative hip hop star K-Os, who has quite a following in the Great White North, as well as from hardcore hip hop fans.

Though it seems to have slipped through the radar of most, Canadian hip-hopper and innovator extra-ordinaire k-os is prepping the release of his fourth album, “Yes!”. The follow up to 2006’s Atlantis: Hymns for Disco, Yes! promises to be a “return to roots” for the artist, who was loosely criticized for his slight abandoning of hip-hop on his previous album.

Initially intended for a 2008 release. Yes! has seen its fair share of struggles. But with a new label (Universal, previously EMI), the album is slated to see the light of day this coming March.

Bob Mould – Life and Times (2009)

This was a very welcome surprise for me, when I found out this had pre’d earlier today. I love Bob Mould’s music, and last year’s album District Line was one of my favorites. Here’s his newest, a few days before it hits store shelves, titled Life and Times. I hope you enjoy it.

30 years since the formation of Husker Du and 20 years since their explosive demise and the subsequent release of his first lauded solo effort Workbook – called a “masterpiece” by critics – Bob Mould is marking anniversaries with an album filled with self-reflection and an unflinching examination of the world around him. Standouts like “Wasted World” and “I’m Sorry Baby, But You Can t Stand in My Light Anymore” highlight an artist completing a cycle decades in the making, his talent undiminished, his perspective acute. Bob Mould is one of the most influential musicians of the alternative rock era, first for his early work with post-punks Husker Du, followed by the college rock-defining pop of Sugar and finally for his solo albums, notably his first, Workbook, which quieted Mould s previous ire to reveal his fine songwriting in a new light and allowed an introspective glimpse into the inner workings of an evolving artist. With Life and Times, Mould comes full circle, reclaiming his indie songwriting mantle from the generation of musicians he inspired.

Track Listing:

01. Life And Times                                                    ( 4:11)
02. The Breach                                                        ( 3:45)
03. City Lights (Days Go By)                                          ( 3:45)

Pikmin USA WII-ProCiSiON

Earlier, Martin posted one of the “New Play Control!” Wii games that was released in the US today.  Now, thanks to the same scene group, ProCiSiON, I’ve got the other, Pikmin.  This is the kind of game, that from it’s GameCube days, seemed like a natural fit for the Wii’s motion controls, and I’m eager to download it myself!

New Play Control! Pikmin puts players in the role of Captain Olimar, a space traveler who’s stranded on a strange alien planet. Only an army of quirky creatures called Pikmin can help him repair his ship and survive the elements. With New Play Control! enhancements, players can now maneuver and command up to 100 Pikmin with a point of the Wii Remote controller, dodging obstacles and foes while working toward a heroic escape. Visit www.Pikmin.com to learn more.

This quirky, life-under-the-microscope title delivers a unique experience like few before it with a blend of real-time strategy, adventure, and puzzle elements. Taking advantage of the GameCube’s graphics power, Pikmin sports lush texture work that brings to life a microscopic fantasy world. Players control Captain Olimar, a lovable little astronaut, who crash landed on a planet inhabited by even more lovable little plant creatures known as Pikmin. Olimar can command these creatures RTS-style, assign them tasks, make them attack foes, and gather resources. The ultimate task is to rebuild Olimar’s space ship before a 30-day time window elapses.
