"I remember blank dvds..they used to sell them in olden times before people brought hard drive media players"

I bought a larger hard drive recently. A Western Digital 160GB EIDE drive. I know it's not as large as the multi-terabyte drives most people here probably have, but the price was right.

Anyway, I installed it, partitioned it into 100GB and 60GB partitions respectively and started using it. I had at least 70GB on the first partition that I was downloading and sharing on BT. A few days ago, there was a momentary power failure in this area. Only a few seconds long, but my system shut off. When I turned it back on, Scandisk took a VERY long to scan the 100GB partition. When Windows finally booted, the 100GB partition had been completely erased. The only thing left was a single empty directory. The 60GB partition had about 10GB worth of files scrambled and one directory scrambled so bad that Windows wouldn't even let me delete it. File recovery software told me that there was nothing to recover from the first partition, the files were just gone.

This is why I burn everything to DATA DVDs. Unfortunately, I had files that I hadn't backed up yet, but hopefully I can download them again.

First of all, there is no version 5.2.7, they've confused 5.2.4 of one program with 5.1.7 of another. This is actually Aurora MPEG to DVD Burner 5.2.4. The setup file in the archive perfectly matches the one from the web site.

Second, the web site is full of mistakes and typos. The info page for this program lists Windows 98 as a minimum requirement, but the download page says it's only for Win 2K/XP.

In fact, the pages for all their programs list 98 as a minimum, but the download page lists only 2K/XP.

"ok this program will not work on win98 128ram pent3 i need a program like convertxtodvd but it will not work on win98 so i use nero but it takes 5hrs maybe longer if the file is1.3gb so can anyone help me."

breadmoney, You can try Easy DVD Creator. It works fine under Windows 98 (I know because I use W98SE). It's relatively fast and very simple to use. It has some downsides though. It's TOO simple. You can't make any kind of menu, you can't adjust the bitrate to fit more on a disc, you can't even tell it to size the output files to fit on a 4.5GB blank (the author recommends that you create the DVD files on the HD, regardless of the size, even over 100%, then use Arc DVD Copy to "copy" the files to a 4.5GB blank). On the plus side, it does preserve the correct aspect ratio of the original file. It does this by letterboxing the video (the letterboxing becomes part of the video). Stay away from one called WinAVI though, it resizes every video to conform to 4:3 or 16:9 regardless of the aspect ratio. In other words, it stretches it both horizontally AND vertically until it fills the chosen aspect ratio.

sorry, but LOL @ peeps who think VSO ConvertX is so good.

It's quick and convenient. That's all. And version 3 has poor default settings that over crop to gain video bit rate(because it does a one pass encode it will never be full quality).

TMPGenc Xpress 4 is THE BEST. It takes a bit longer but you can choose exactly what audio you use and you can adjust all the standard video settings like contrast, luminance, chroma etc. Really worth learning to use.
