Does anyone know if there is a fix for joypad support in-menu? Thats the only thing stopping me from actually buying this for my HTPC. Well, that and the fact that it’s Steam only, who wants Steam running on a HTPC?

  6. Phoenix
    March 3rd, 2008 | 19:08

@5: What demo? The other DETONATiON release was full retail. You gotta play 2-3 songs to unlock all.

    March 3rd, 2008 | 19:11

    @RitchieB

Joypad support is great now. With my XBOX360, you can use either or both analog sticks with powerups on the triggers.

  8. eric
    March 3rd, 2008 | 19:12

So I play two songs, it unlocks? No crack? No serial? I thought this was Steam. Don’t you need some cracks or something?

  9. Phoenix
    March 3rd, 2008 | 19:31

@eric: yes, and no crack or anything needed.

This is from the release notes:
“The installer has been modified for your needs so Steam won’t beinstalled. Everything else remains the same.
A internet connection, and Steam is NOT required to play the game from this release!”

And you can still create a user account and post your scores to the scoreboards :D

To all those saying “buy this game, don’t get the pirate copy” if we don’t have a credit card, paypal account, etc… just how exactly are we supposed to “buy” a game that is, as far as I know, not available in stores? If I were to see this at EB or Staples or something, I would buy it in a heartbeat. But, the choice was made to go with steam and alienate a massive number of customers, so I’m glad to get the pirate copy. If they’re too stupid to sell it in stores, that’s their problem.

Steam is terrible, I used to have it but it’s completely crap so I got rid of it. It hogs way too many resources considering what it does. It’s a shame when developers decide to release good games exclusively for steam. If one day most PC games require programs like Steam, I’m just going to stick to consoles. Windows live sucks too.

    @#29

I guess when songs have a bad quality or, the single frequencies are to much “mashed up” you cant generate a good song…

I listen 95% to metal and I had no problems until now
the other 5% are hardstyle techno - and in some songs it just wont generate a good track :/

hello, this updates works fine. HOWEVER, if you install this you will loose support for 2 player games if you have an xbox 360 controller.
This updates forces the 2 players modes to use both analogs on one controller!! Repeat, if you play two player, this update will eliminate that. Thanks.

Same here. Some spacecrafts are just invisible or the track is empty.

  43. Mooney

Or everything is just crushing from the very beginning. Directories are scrambeld, songs are loading but the track is not created or you’re standing still on the start line with the respawning message.

    March 5th, 2008 | 03:49

@24: I would’ve believed you in the early days of Steam, but apparently you haven’t tried it since. It’s really fast and my favorite way of getting games these days, I would only wish more games were available on steam. There’s nothing like not having to look for a DVD or CD and wait for things to install. With Steam, I can reformat, download steam, then download any of the games I’ve bought that are tied to my account at max speed, and they’ll be ready to play once they’re downloaded, no need to install afterwards. The download protocol is similar to that of BitTorrent’s, in fact, Bram Cohen, the creator of BitTorrent, worked on it.

Fot 10$ I can have original Dark Messiah in here :> Audiosurf is an arcade game! 10$ it is an outrage!

  50. Rekrul
    March 5th, 2008 | 22:14

    @51 Blaenk Denum,

What happens if Valve goes out of business? Sure it might not seem very likely now, but anything can happen. Or what if they get bought by some other company that doesn’t want to support older/smaller games any longer? When you have an actual CD/DVD you can always re-install the game (except when they’ve also crippled it with online activation). You can also install any patches that are needed. As long as you have a system that the game will run on, you are *GUARANTEED* to be able to re-install and play it. Can you make that same guarantee about Steam-crippled games a decade from now?

  51. me
    March 6th, 2008 | 12:58

I know this is a good game, and I know indie game developers need supporting (especially those who make good games). But I would NEVER install Steam just to get a legal copy of this. Sure, Steam is not much of a resource hog as others put it out to be; and sure, the way you can just download Steam and re-download the games that you’ve already bought after a reformat is a convenience (to some)…but still, no thanks! I prefer to have a physical copy of the games that I buy. I don’t want to depend on some digital storage that require internet connection. I know CDs and DVDs have a lifespan, where an inevitable “Unable to read” error occurs after [quite] some time…but at least I have the option to back up my CDs (by burning another copy and use that instead) and keep the originals in storage. When the time comes that my originals are no longer usable, at least I have “physical copies” for keeps. Also, about the “fast-speed downloads.” No matter how I look at it, it’s still quite an inconvenience. Why can’t I just get the DVD and install from there? Really, how long do you think it takes to install a 6 Gb game? Forty to sixty minutes, tops? And, how long does it take to download a game that large? Well, that depends on your internet connection, but I’d say the average (for most users) would be 3 days. Sorry, but Steam just doesn’t cut if for me.

  52. XSVDL
    March 7th, 2008 | 21:27

    @54

some of us actually have better than standard internet - I got 11.4gb in 8 hrs yesterday - steam is great, and so long as you aren’t poor you will always have the internet. let’s talk about updates…with steam, you get them automatically…hardcopy, not so much. besides, you can always make a copy of the game dir in the steam dir to disc and viola! physical copy. don’t bash steam till you have NEEDED it and it just worked immediately and you are up and running playing your favorite legally purchased game teh same day you reinstalled/reformatted. dvd’s get scratched quickly if you aren’t careful, and there is nothing worse than getting a cyclic redundancy error from your only hardcopy.

  53. Gravemaker
    March 14th, 2008 | 03:38

So let me get this strait, audiosurf will NOT be sold in stores…and if you do get it, can’t you play it without logging on or even having an account, or do you need one to play the full version? Two more questions, making an account doesn’t cost anything, does it? And what information do you have to provide to buy it? it is my first time buying anothing from steam that isn’t a hardcopy.

  54. marss
    March 30th, 2008 | 18:25

why would you guys want us to buy the game? so they can get rich, thus, popular and then hate the developers? cause that trend that’s going on about “hating anything mainstream” is getting on my nerves, grow up. furthermore, my .nfo file was broken so i have some files but no idea what to do with them so can somebody tell me how to update?

  55. Flamex
    May 8th, 2008 | 22:14

Yea this is great and all, and I installed the pirated version, works great…but how do I install the actual update. I have no idea where to put it, if I should replace files or what…someone explain please.

  56. ben
    May 30th, 2008 | 12:49

This worked fine for me. I’m not getting any of the errors that have been mentioned here, and I’m not running an incredibly high-end system.

I’m having fun on the scoreboards, I’m top of a couple of songs. Not telling you which because you’ll try and dethrone me, Lol.

Also, with regards to the Steam debate that’s going on here,
The only thing that annoys me is that the offline mode just doesn’t work.

    1. Steam can’t connect, run in offline mode?
    2.
    3. Steam can’t connect to the network, sorry.

and if you manage to get past that part,

    1.
    2. This operation can’t be completed offline!

If they sorted that, I’d be quite happy with steam.
