Audiosurf-DETONATiON

A very special gaming title was released few hours ago by group DETONATiON. Audiosurf is an unusual $10 arcade game distributed through Steam, which is little similar to super popular Guitar Hero. You will basically import your own music and then race on a virtual race circuit full of obstacles generated by the sound of your singles. There’s no need to crack anything, just extract all files and play.

Audiosurf allows you to experience the intensity and emotion of your songs in real time, in full color, and in 3D. Songs that give you an adrenaline rush are converted into wild roller coaster rides full of color and motion. Songs that calm you down appear as cool colors against a relaxing sky. Audiosurf enhances the experience of your music collection by synchronizing its environment to the events in your songs–the beats, the intense sections, the long pauses followed by a burst of sound, all take on a more vivid meaning.

In Audiosurf, you race down a futuristic and colorful highway. The highway, the traffic patterns, and the scenery are all synchronized to the music you have chosen from your own collection. You earn points for clustering together cars of the same color on the highway, and can compete with others on the internet for the high score on your favorite songs. Audiosurf builds a highway for any music CD, MP3, iTunes M4A, WMA, or OGG song you choose, so the experience that you have is totally up to you. Inside every song you own there’s an immersive experience waiting to come to life through Audiosurf—ride your music.

decent game, playing on ubuntu right now, and aside from a few minor errors the game works fine, so thanks, guys! PS: for really challenging rides try Rammstein, Exilia and Apocalyptica (The Old Albums worked best for me)…..

    @108:

someone could mistaken your comment to be from someone who needs to get a life far more than others.

…but your “teh” and “sc3ne” was a pretty kewl thang to throw into your pseudo-kewl statement.

Seriously, this game sounds soo sweet! I can’t wait to try it! It looks wicked cool… And I saw a video of it being played on easy with 3 spaces to move; does the movement space increase when you pick a tougher setting? And I’m gonna check and see if my guitar for GH3 can support it; it’d be wicked cool!

I have some copied games, but I also own around 80-90% of the games in my collection. Admittedly, I bought most of them used or at a closeout store, but they’re still original copies. I mention this because I want to make it clear that I don’t pirate everything.

Having said that, I refuse to buy ANYTHING that is crippled with Steam. Beyond the “big brother” implications of having Steam monitor your usage of the software and force-feed you updates, I don’t like the idea that a few years from now, you may not be able to install or run the software you paid for because Steam is no longer operating, or they no longer support that particular program.

i have an idea which i think everyone else has missed.

since this game was made by indie game developers, perhaps we should support them and buy the game for $10 instead of stealing it. just thought i’d mention it since no one else was.

  15. Armstrong14
    February 19th, 2008 | 03:24

Yeah… The developers deserve their credit for their creation, especially for $10… I mean it’s all about the brand names now… Like GH3 was $80 when my gf bought it for me for Christmas… On the other hand, a lot of movies are independently made, with little or no money budgets, and they need supports, too.

By the way, does anyone know if this is Vista compatible?

    @115 freshidea,

I refuse to support developers who cripple their games by tying them to Steam. I have bought and played games that were a decade old. Can you guarantee me, I mean, absolutely, positively, guarantee that you will be able to install every single Steam-crippled game a decade from now?

Sure, Valve is doing well now, but all it takes is one or two games that don’t sell well, and suddenly the company isn’t doing so great. Then they get bought by a larger one that decides they no longer need to support older games and all the Steam-crippled games become worthless. Can’t install them, can’t update them, etc.

I own the original Half-Life games and I was all set to buy Half-Life 2. Then I read that Steam was required to install it, to run it, to install patches. Until they make a stand-alone version of HL2 that can be installed, patched and played without Steam, I will never pay a cent for it.

    @117 anonymous,

Actually, on a few, rare occasions, I have been able to connect and download from MovieX’s tracker. Not often, but it does happen every once in a while.

Well the game rules… Buuut I can’t get my mouse to work with it :( it’s a usb mouse, so i dunno if that’s the problem… And using the keyboard is a pain, because when you press the right key, you move over one space, then you release it and you move back to the first space… then you press it again, and you move over two spaces, but release the key and you’re put back to the first block. Help!! lol

Because this is made by indie developers, it’s likely that the developers themselves would make more money from this, rather than how it usually works… the publishers make all of the profit.

That said, I don’t have the money to get it now, but this is insanely fun. I’d recommend it to most people.

I noticed a lot of people leeching the Awake DVDRip from a few days ago.

If you could all just help out the people that made that little film, I strongly recommend you buy it. It’s not made by some huge corporation, but by people like you and me.

Definetly worth buying for 10 bucks!

So please help the guys who made it, buy it!
    ———————
I know you were trying to be sarcastic but you failed big time. I have grade two RSD nerve damage (google it, would take too much time to explain it) and that stops me from going to the theater unless I sit way in the back against the wall on an isle seat so I can move if I need to move as I get stiff and very painful if I sit in one spot for too long, and that is even WITH a morphine patch for pain. As such I cannot go to see movies and have to depend on dvd’s. Yes I DO download movies from here to see if I like them or not, and if I like them I DO purchase the dvd when it comes out (you can ask the FYE in my local mall. I am the ONLY one that can call out to the store and tell them I want a dvd or more then one and they will order it no questions asked, all others must pay a 20% down payment for special orders. In fact I also get the employee discount because I spend so much there.) but one thing I will not do is waste $20.00 for a dvd for something I do not or will not like.

This way I can see if I like it or not. If I like it, I will support it; if not..oh well. I already have on order at my FYE, the following movies: National Treasure 2-Aliens v Predator-30 days of Night-The Eye-Awake-and Stephen King’s The Mist. All of which I saw here first and wanted for my collection.

Pretty fun game. I remember a game for the PS1 where you could use your own tunes to make levels. You were a stick cat in the game and it was a music based platformer where you had to jump over pits or walk across spikes. It was just a black bacjgorund with white lies making up the character and level.

    What was this game called?

BTW with this RLS you can make an online audiosurf account and upload your scores (I have) and also all the characters are available. I think I unlocked them all after the little training bit at the start.

  53. mmh
    February 19th, 2008 | 15:14

The game diden’t really impress me. Was kind a boring. Just drive into boxes. The game unlocked all characters after doing two songs. Still GH3 is the best.

I purchased this game because I think it’s fair to give something back to the indie game makers. More effort and thought went into this game than the usual “Crysis” style of gaming (graphics over gameplay). It’s not expensive.

Portal was the same for me, it was original and worth the money. Didn’t try and impress with anything but gameplay and originality.

The game, by the way, is noticeably low-budget. Amplitude’s production values were considerably better. Just thought to let the potential buyers know that it’s better to try out the game before wasting those ten bucks on something that will bore you out in less than an hour.

  62. idomagic
    February 19th, 2008 | 23:57

Pathetic to see the developer(s) or people involved with the game spam about buying the game and even trying to fool people that this release would only be a demo.

Just tell us you are here and you’d appriciate if people bought the game instead (for reasons you have already spammed not just one time too many). Lousy attempts at trying to look like someone else just makes you look bad and generally backfires.

I might’ve bought the game, but by doing this you lost my respect as well as any potential cash from my pocket.

no cue file in this torrent for me, created my own one and it all worked fine.

    “FILE “asrym-dtn.BIN” BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00″

save as a .cue file in the same directory, and you’ll have no problems.

By the way most mainstream developers receive a SALARY. That means they already get paid no matter what. Even if a game sells 0 copies the devs still got paid, usually a publisher or someone pays them. Independent developers don’t have this luxury.

Another reason you might be seeing some nice posts about this

    1) It is not $50 waste of time like MOST games
    2) It is actually something relatively innovative and not just same boring old games with prettier graphics.

Just because one game is worth it doesn’t make the rest of the drivel all of a sudden worth buying as well.

This is a really cool game, though there are a couple of bugs on some system configurations. For example I should point out to all of those out there who use XBCD along with an XBOX controller, it causes severe memory leaks in this game. Unplugging the controller from the USB port will eliminate this, I had this particular problem and performance started out ok and then got worse and worse as time went on. Just a tip don’t play this with an XBOX controller plugged in.

I’m sorry, but I just can not figure out what to do after I’ve downloaded all 5 files. I’m at a complete loss….

I extracted the 5 main archives, but then when I open it there’s a folder,a link, and a readme. I opened the folder, and there are multiple archives. What do I do?

I got this game not too long ago, (awesome by the way!) but everytime I run into too many grey blocks it just freezes instead of respawning. Can someone help?
