Gotta laugh at these wannabe bedroom djs screaming the virtues of traktor! I've tried most of the available packages & few come close to VDJ - Traktor just doesn't rate in my book! I've been through the days of mixing vinyl, then cd & now working with laptop i find VDJ to be the all in one package, it does all i need it to do, with traktor, i'd have to run other programs simultaneously & flick between them - no use in a live situation! I've noticed all the vdj haters slagging off any dj who doesn't subscribe to their viewpoints, doesn't bother me, i'm out 4 nites a week in big venues with 20 years experience, so i'm letting them stay in their bedsit dreaming of the bigtime - not one has been able to back up their claims, let alone demonstrate any knowledge of djing! I can just picture the posts to follow, u can just see these losers coming up with weekly interstellar venues broadcast simultaneously across the galaxy to try & prove they're up there with the best of us! lol

I Bought Traktor with audio 8 sound card. I have had major problems with the pitch floating up and down with my dennon dns-1000's. Turns out it's traktors timecode, But audio 8 works well with Virtual Dj and you got free timecode download at VDJ's website. Mixing videos is great with a good PC .

VDJ vs. Traktor comment:
I personally must say that it really depends on what you are going to use the software for.
so for example:

1)VDJ has a really good sound engine (but you should never use the equalizer - this is really bad in the program, but if you are mixing just a little bit more you won't need it, cause you will use an external mixer...)
Traktors sound engine is really good, and has a much better built-in equalizer (but will you use it when using extarnal mixer???)

2)if you want to mix different styles (like techno, hip-hop, pop etc.) the BPM engine in VDJ is better and works correcter.
if you use only electronic-style music like techno, house and so on, traktor is very good too.

3)plug-ins: in traktor you can't use that much plugins, in VDJ you can use really a lot of (and most are quite good). also you have the possibility in VDJ to easily implement nearly every vst-plugin without problems)

4)features: VDJ has a lot more features compared to traktor. you can use karaoke (i guess this only a few people need), but you can mix videos too, with good effects, which you cant do in traktor. so if you want to mix with videos on screen too, VDJ is definitly yours!

5)compatibility: midi synchronisation with external mixers or dj-cd-players is no problem with both programs (most times ;-))

6)ASIO: i read in a post before that in vdj you cant use asio support... this is wrong. you can use asio drivers for low latency, and it works fine for me.

7)interface: the type of interface you prefer depends on you. its true, that traktor "looks" a lot more professional than VDJ, but its your choice...

summary:
if you are just mixing at home and want to use different techniques i would prefer VDJ because of the much more features.
traktor is known to "be better" for years, but today i will say that VDJ is better.
But as i already mentioned, it belongs to you which features you need and which interface you prefer most, because it is just silly to use a "maybe better program" and you dont use the features and dont like the interface, and therefore your workflow.
So i can just say: try and compare, and then decide.

@da truth
If you are a real DJ who uses VDJ.. then you must suck. Traktor DJ handles the PC environment much more professionally with stuff like ASIO support etc. Professional DJ's all use Traktor. You probably just overlap songs one after the other aka radio and not proper club style like using pitch control / overlapping beats etc.

There is a reason Traktor is the number 1 DJ software. Just because crappy Dj's in philly don't have any common sense or mixing skills doesnt mean the rest of the US or world are in the same boat.

people can bad mouth VDJ all they want, but the truth is none of them probably really dj anywhere. ive dj;d all over philly, a lil in nj and nyc and now im livin out in vegas. i spin out here 2 nights a week and a known club, and i am a member of 2 promotions companies. when im doing a show or bringing demos to promo meetings, the guys are all dying to know how i make some of my mixes, which are all real time on the fly. i have never, ever, ever meet a professional dj who runs traktor, so for all the good stuff i hear online, ive yet to even see someone runing it anywhere. just cause you can pick up vdj in 10 minutes doesnt mean that after your running a tccd setup with a standard mixer, a midicontroller/soundcard/mixer aio, a 21 key midi keyboard with crazy preset controls means this cant do the job

Virtual DJ just doesn't have that feeling of playing music, deejaying. Traktor feels better. This is kinda just overlapping of songs in a simple way.

Nope brings us another fine release. Very popular mixing software Atomix VirtualDJ. There is a lot of software out on witch you can mix your music… even VirtualDJ is not most popular its not complicated and has a lot of functions. Make music, video, use samples, change mixes & have fun. ;-) For additional info please check VirtualDJ’s homepage where you can find a lot of sound & video effect, samples, language packs, wallpapers and other fun stuff…

DESCRIPTION: VirtualDJ is simple but very useful MP3 mixing software, targeting every DJ from bedroom DJs to professional superstars. With its breakthrough BeatLock engine, your songs will always stay in the beat, and you can work your mixes incredibly faster than any other DJ could. The automatic seamless loop engine and the brand new synchronized sampler will let you perform astounding remixes live, with no preparation at all.

The visual representation and the cues allow you to clearly see the songs structure, and never be surprised by a break anymore. The vinyl controls will let you scratch like on a real turntable, except that with the beatlock engine your scratches will never end out of the beat. Add to that an infinite number of cue points you can save for each songs, a bunch of wonderful effects automatically beat-synchronized. Add also several interfaces to suit everybody from the beginner to the professional DJ, the possibility to record your mixes to burn them on CDs, to broadcast on the Internet and have your own radio station, to save your CDs directly in MP3, to use a headphone to preview the songs or an external mixtable to perform in a club. Lastly, enter the new era of DJs by mixing video clips (DVD, DivX, MPEG…) which you can send on a giant screen.
