Astronomers predict total lunar eclipse, visible across much of Canada
TORONTO – Astronomers predict a total lunar eclipse tonight that will be visible anywhere in Canada where the skies are clear.
The moon will appear when the Earth’s shadow begins to travel across the lunar surface at 8:42 p.m. Eastern time.
When the moon is completely hidden around 10 p.m., it could appear to be blood red or bright orange and later change to dark brown.
Although the eclipse will last for three hours, the best of the lunar pyrotechnics will only be visible for about 50 minutes.
A number of science centres, as well as individuals, are throwing free lunar parties tonight in several cities in Canada, offering telescopes for people to observe the eclipse.
In Toronto, the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada is throwing a free sky party at the Ontario Science Centre, while a similar event has been set up in Calgary by the University of Calgary’s Rothney Astrophysical Observatory. Any body who sees the eclipse make sure to comment !

it is half covered now, but it looks like it is only covered by a cloud, or maybe the orange effect will show when it is fully covered, i will try and take some pics. but no guarantee seeing as my digital camera is only 3.2mp….

Guys, you need to make sure you know what the moon IS before you go out and look for it. It’s not that big light pole out on your street corner with all the flies hovering around it. And it isn’t that lit up “Burger King” sign either.

i’m in ontario and periodically stepping out to check things out – its pretty great… too bad i’m living in the urban jungle now and no longer in the middle of nowhere where its nice and dark…. oh well – still looks great – city lights and all
it is semi cloudy here in cambridge uk, but i caught a glance a minute ago. not much left till totality.
I’d much rather see this than cops lol.
But, I can’t see it yet. Guess I’ll go for a little drive for a better view of the SE sky.

You could still see the moon, was just a little dark. I thought it would be a full eclipse. This was my first eclipse in 8 years, I keep missing the others.

Aaand well yeah, I’m in Toronto too, and I saw it no problem, it wasn’t deep red or anything, but it was still pretty neat! And yeah, you could see a satellite before it came down to earth, but that was I believe around 2 hours ago… This is a good sight, and even if it wasn’t that spectacular to most, it’s a memory for me.

I got to witness this one in the outskirts of Winnipeg. Very cool event. Simple, and quaint, but still, the very idea of our massive shadow crossing over the moon is pretty amazing.
The redness of the moon is caused by the light bending around the earth. Like all the collective sunset’s in the world are all gathered on the moon.

eclipse looks pretty good from here.
You can be sure Espen Tøndel could get the attention of the Kripos if the the thieves were after some of the revenue from Telenor or StatoilHydro or Norsk Hydro or Statkraft.

To Knightrider and every other person that put down Canada. The only reason that some of us Canadians thought that it was only visible here was because of the news report. They said that it’ll be visible across Canada. So a lot of us jumped to the conclusion that it was ONLY visible in Canada, (Similar to the upcoming Lunar eclipse, http://www.shadowandsubstance.com/2017/2017e.swf, which we’ll only be seen in mid-USA).
The news reports should have said that it’ll be visible across the world.

Here in Panana (Central America) it was a clear night and we could see the eclipse perfectly. The moon turning orange was a nice touch!.
