Arthur And The Invisibles DVDRip XviD-ViTE
It has been only few days since I commented a big difference in time between dvdscr and dvdrip in case of various releases and we got a really nice proof of this theory now: the old school group ViTE released a new dvdrip of Arthur And The Invisibles 3 minutes ago, just 2 days after iKA’s dvd screener. I consider this group as one of the best in the scene, together with Diamond and few others, so you can be sure it’s a top quality release. English and Spanish subtitles are also included.
Edit: nuked for bad AR + out of sync, damn
Director Luc Besson (THE FIFTH ELEMENT) tries his hand at a children’s film with ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES. Based on a book, this adventure follows Arthur (Freddie Highmore) as he journeys in his own backyard to save his home from greedy land developers. When his grandfather disappears, Freddie follows a series of clues that lead him to the land of the Minimoys (aka the Invisibles). Arthur’s entrance into their realm takes the film from live-action to computer animation, changing Arthur from a 10-year-old boy into one of the Minimoys. The elf-like people he encounters are so tiny that insects dwarf them. Their warrior princess (voiced by Madonna) is ready to ascend the throne of the tiny kingdom. But first she and Arthur must join forces to outwit the evil Malthazar (voiced by David Bowie), who is intent on destroying the kindhearted race.

ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES boasts a cast of talented actors. Mia Farrow plays Arthur’s concerned grandmother, which is quite a change from her malevolent nanny in THE OMEN. The trio of musicians-turned-actors (Madonna, Snoop Dogg, and Bowie) are all fun in their vocal roles, and Bowie particularly shines as the villain. Other standouts include Robert De Niro, Jimmy Fallon, Harvey Keitel, and Jason Bateman, while Highmore brings the same wide-eyed wonder to the screen as he did in CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. In fact, ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES shares a similar imaginative spirit with the works of Tim Burton and Roald Dahl. Though Besson’s previous films have been adults-only fare like LA FEMME NIKITA, he brings a sense of childlike awe to this project.

Arthur.And.The.Invisibles.DVDRip.XviD-ViTE “nuked.bad.AR”
so we might as well wait for a proper
or get
Arthur.And.The.Invisibles.DVDRip.XviD-iMBT since it seems to be ok.
Arthur.And.The.Invisibles.INTERNAL.DIRFIX.DVDRip.XviD-iMBT is also nuked, but for a rather weak reason “dirfix.to.internal.not.allowed”

Dr. Rod Chapman’s Guest Lectures – Impressions
Correctness by Construction
—————————————-
This lecture was mostly related to Rod’s work at Praxis, who specialise in writing high quality code for real-time embedded systems. They use a programming language they developed themselves called SPARK which is a HILS (high-integrity language subset) of Ada, designed to be unambiguous and secure. He started out by explaining the methods through which his company designs an application: the first step (typically overlooked by other developers) is to make sure that what the customer wants is formally and unambiguously defined in some sort of concrete specification. After that, this design document is analysed and translated to a formal specification language, usually Z. At this point Rod explained why SPARK was developed; doing all of the previous analysis is useless if you are then going to implement your design in a programming language that is insecure and loosely defined.
The increased time and cost of developing programs in this way may not be viable for all software development, but for critical domains it is worth it. According to Rod, the average defect rate for finished, commercial code is more than 5 per KLOC (thousand lines of code). One example of where this level of bugs would be unacceptable is in Praxis’ current project, iFACTS. iFACTS is an air traffic control system currently being built by Praxis to manage all air traffic in Great Britain and Ireland. It takes data about all aircraft currently flying and projects their expected positions for the next 15 minutes, and detects any possible collisions. The consequences of a bug in this software could be catastrophic, so the strict methodology practised by Rod and his team are essential for projects such as this.
Attending this talk gave me an appreciation for the amount of effort and planning required to produce even acceptably correct code. The statistic he gave that industry software developers write on average 10 lines of code per day over the duration of a project put analysis and design in perspective with regards to real commercial software, as opposed to purely academic projects.
No One Does Formal Methods, Right?
—————————————-
This lecture focused more on the concept of good coding practices than Rod’s previous programming projects. He began by summarising most college students’ views on formal methods: “this stuff is tedious and difficult, and no one uses is in the real world anyway”. Many programmers consider formal methods to be a failure, just because they are not common practice. Rod rebuffed this accusation by stating that they appeal more to niche companies devoted to providing high quality, secure code where systems need to be as reliable as possible. He pointed out the problem with the current paradigm of program design by drawing an analogy between it and building a house – what programmers typically do is akin to the builders starting to lay bricks before any plans have even been drawn up, and with little or no concrete instructions as to what the house should look like.
One of the major problems with any kind of program verification lies with the chosen language itself. The higher level a language is, the more “disconnected” from the hardware it is. You have little to no idea how your program is carrying out the instructions you give it, and so a program may crash or behave strangely for no easily detectable reason. On the other end of the spectrum, you have assembly language or machine code – completely precise and unambiguous, but very difficult to do anything useful with.
This is where SPARK comes in. SPARK is a language developed by Praxis, the company Rod works for, that is both high level and precise. It is a subset of the Ada language, meaning features of Ada deemed too unpredictable are left out. Because the language is so well defined, it makes automatic verification much easier. Analysis can be run on a program written in SPARK to detect potential problems at runtime, or prove that no such problems exist. There are problems facing verification though – one of which being hardware architecture. It is extremely hard to fit a model of the hardware the program is being designed to be run on into your overall specification. In addition, combining two or more formal languages into a coherent design specification can be difficult.
