Are rlslog rip-off sites ruining our reputation ?

Hey there everyone. My name is Mr. X of rlslog.net, editor since April 3 of 2007. My experience covers over 400 posts, most of them in the TV section. RLSLOG.net is the original, best and most popular scene news blog, complete with original articles including quality reviews. Being a 100K/day site we couldn’t have done 4,080 posts without the hard work and dedication of our whole team, and the support and loyalty of our commentators and readers.

I have been noticing, especially over the course of this year, the steady increase of sites that losers have the free time to create that simply mirror all of our content under their site name. Since we have an rss-based system, it makes it easier for the children who run their rogue sites to copy off our content under their name. Martin has tried to add a counter-measure to the RSS feed ‘this article has been published at RLSLOG.net - visit our site for full content.‘ but unfortunately losers continue to work-around this measure. This is a pathetic attempt at getting their own share of advertising revenue off of someone else who made the original article.

I would link to these sites in question, but that’s what the admins would want so instead I have created screenshots of the webpages so they won’t get the satisfaction of being linked from us in order to get a better google rank. I could only remember these two, but I remember visiting more I just have forgotten their urls. As well with just rlslog content rip-off sites, I have also noticed spin-off rlslog sites wherein the website authors get together a little team and try to copy our methods. Not only do they not have original reviews, a simple bot script could be doing all the work for them. Lately we have been seeing a rash of site-spamming in the comments themselves. If you want your site linked by rlslog, and if it does not suck there are proper avenues to go through, I suggest that you take this route.

The adds (even IF you can block them), biased posts (especially those of Mr. X), unrelevant posts, and the ‘air’ some of the editors have (again, Mr. X) really put me off this site. If there would be another half-decent site, I would go there. rlslog has really lost it lately, BUT for releases it still is the best. If the editors could be just a little professional, I would actually come there for the blog instead of the releases!

For the rest of my comments, I simply point to comment # 20,38,48,56,62,66, and 77. How’s that for stealing other people’s stuff ey???

you guys are doing a fine job.

if anything… stay clear of the trolling and flaming. people love you as long as you dont get drawn into a stupid shouting match w. 14-year olds. the latter is a huge rep-buster imho.

(honestly, its not a deal until you make it one and the trolls wont be fed unless you feed them. common sense)

What Capn Crunch and most of you don’t seem to understand is that our site exists in a legal limbo.

We do not have a wide range of potential advertisers to market ourselves to, and if people insist on avoiding our advertising, then that range of advertisers will get even smaller.

I agree that RSLog.net is one of the bests sites regarding the Scene release subject. But, see someone “complaining” about steeling intellectual property (plagiarism and flattery) when in fact what this site do is providing information (I appreciate that) on releases that their main goal is to do the same. Ahhh

Some times is hard when it happens to us…

    @ Arnold

since the beginning of the scene, even before the BBSes and Fidonet, everyone involved has agreed not to make a dime off the back of our activities. This is the real scene, I mean, not the scene you are in if you are 15.

What I don’t understand is why rlslog is posting nukes, trying to make a buck of the scene’s back - and all the other activities which are happening here

    in 1337 its 14m3

I found it off a TXT file from a downloaded torrent from TPB.

After that, I stuck to this site, and come twice or three times a day to see what’s up.

I have a lot of sites like this bookmarked, but this is the only one I actually visit.

Only when this site is down [rarely], I visit the others.

I do enjoy coming here to this forum due to the preview of hot new dvd and vid release info. However, as stated by some above this site has become slow, and rather than talk about hot movies we get korean and indian flicks. Not that those don’t matter, but 3:10 to yuma had been out for two days prior to your discussion and I don’t care about parrots. You need to hire better staff that is dedicated to the scene, and takes pride in being first.

ADBlock preferences + hide ads instead of removing = revenue for RLSlog

Posts + small sized tables filled with white unuseful text on white backround = copypasta “disabled”

RLSLOG disabling multiple view of same ad which only count unique visits = less ads

RLSLOG advertising stuff in posts (the post is about the advertised product/service) = $$$ (Only products that are worth it)

    RLSLOG merchandise =$$$

this site sucks and is ruining the “scene” anyway, I dont believe you think its an orginial idea to make posts informing people of new releases and i find it VERY funny you moan that people are ripping off your “work”.

Isn’t Mr. X amazing? In the middle of a slow Sunday, out of nowhere he gets over 110 responses to a post about nothing in about two hours!

    Incredible.

    @119 George
Um. did you see some of the sites? It is fawking copy and paste! You can’t not be upset about that. Tisk… Im happy if there are others. however, they can type their own for the release that come out - maybe even faster than rlslog.

well i have been thinking whether or not to delete this post right after mr.x wrote it (i didnt really know he plans some kind of post like that), but we decided to keep it to see what will people say. the reactions here range from approval to those who don’t really like us (yet they obviously keep visiting us fairly often).

it would be foolish to expect a professional approach in both posts and comments on a website, which is basically visited by internet thiefs (at least that’s what most people think about warez users), who refuse to pay for software and tend to get things for free. still, i think we keep the site on a fairly high level, with constant updates and relatively clear and acceptable comments.

it’s a mankind’s behaviour to imitate something successful, something which proved to work and something which attracted attention of thousands. we do not have anything against people who try to run a similar site as we do, that’s a pure competition, which can’t be bad (although we state behind the idea of such a site, which didn’t really existed on the internet in this form, until we launched rlslog).

the time and numbers will tell which project is more popular, and i’m happy we’re currently #1 with a huge gap. stealing articles is a little different story, something we don’t really like, but again something we can’t do too much about - the factor of filesharing is taking part here again, and most hosting providers simply don’t react when we contact them with a request of removal of some of our stolen posts/images.

still, we are very thankful for all those regular visitors who appreciate the insane amount of work and care, which such a site requires. all the editors here deserves a fair deal of respect, because they do it for free in their free time just for you people. moaning about being slow would probably move into a different reality if you’d try to stand on the other side of the barrier. there have been many who realized it’s not just fun, but mainly work, and quitted after 2 or 3 posts.

finally, a notice for all the people complaining about not posting a good stuff or being too slow. you obviously haven’t realized the logistics behind the warez scene - we aren’t responsible for releasing all those movies and games, we are just informing about them when they appear on the public.

there are weeks with five new awesome dvdrips, and there are weeks with 3 new crappy cams, but we can’t do anything about it. i dare to say we cover at least 95% of mainstream releases and we try to enrich the usual content with older or non-english movies, which may be often way more interesting than those regular, hollywood flicks. despite the obvious preference of time and speed, we also pay attention to real information about the quality and possible nuking, which requires the author to obtain a sample of such a release - and that takes some time of course.

anyway, thanks for your support. comments closed. long live the RLSLOG!
