Arctic Tale LIMITED 720p HDDVD x264-SEPTiC

Hey folks! I’m back from Austria (had a wonderful time, didn’t break anything :) ), so I’m back on the HD-posts also. My first one is Arctic Tale released by SEPTiC. I haven’t seen this because I think it’s boring but it has pretty nice reviews on the internet and it has a pretty decent score on IMDB too: 6.7/10. If you like to watch a movie with your family this is the one to get :)

From National Geographic Films, the producers that brought you “March of the Penguins” and Paramount Vantage, the studio that brought you “An Inconvenient Truth,” “Artic Tale” is an epic adventure that explores the vast world of the Great North. The film follows the walrus, Seela and the polar bear, Nanu, on their journey from birth to adolescence to maturity and parenthood in the frozen Arctic wilderness. Once a perpetual winter wonderland of snow and ice, the walrus and the polar bear are losing their beautiful icebound world as it melts from underneath them. Narrated by Queen Latifah, the film features music from Cat Stevens, Ben Harper, Aimee Mann, and The Shins.

    “Narrated by Queen Latifah” – that killed it for me

    Why couldn’t it be in avi? I like to put these hd rips, on my PS3’s harddrive, to watch them.

    Can someone please tell me about the BLUE RAY and HD RIPS?
    I have a HD TV but I have not got a HD DVD player
    So if I download a BLUE RAY or HD rip what is the quality like?
    Is it as good as the original or is it just like a DVD rip?

    @rugrat,

    that depends on how you’re delivering it to the tv, if you’ve got your tv hooked up to your comp via component or hdmi then you should be fine, but if you reencode it to burn to dvd it *will* be downscaled

    Oh, this one is good. It’s a nice movie about global warming. Quite fun. And now in HD! Yay!… I guess…

    rugat,
    You need to connect your PC to HDTV. Forget about burning DVD’s , it is a loss of time and money. How high def you will get depend on what type of connector you have on your TV set. For example, variety of HDTV’s support PC input either as VGA or DVI, which means you can connect your PC’s video card directly to your HDTV set. How high resolution you will get depends on your TV set. Also, check manual. If your TV set doesn’t have separate input for your PC, there are ways, but you will need to research about it.

    rugat,
    Forgot to mention, you will need latest Intel processors to run those hd movies. At least 2.6 ghz. Rest is not important.

    Queen latifah is the most horrible narrator one could find. Add the ridiculous lines she’s blabbering out, and you have 96mins of hell. Seriously, they should have fed both the writer and the narrator to these starving polar beers.

    Just get the Planet Earth series in HD. Same polar bear footage and better narration.

    @rugrat & All:
    I don’t get the need for these HD files. The regular DVDRips about 600-700mb burned to a DVD work just great to get HD quality results. Just use an upcoverting DVD Player?
    I suggest the Sony DVP-NS77H ($79 if you shop around). Upconverts to 1080p. You won’t be disappointed. No need for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD……… (The Sony mention along with the older DVP-NS75H (1080i)work a lot better than other upconverters). If you’ve tried others you may not have gotten the best results….
    :)

    Thanks Martin, and Jane, but I want to keep it in HD, not down scaled to DVD quality. PS3 now supports dvix, so it can play any kind of avi, but not x264. I’ve downloaded HD quality Nature programs from mininova, that’s in avi. I just wished it was ripped in an avi format.

    avi is not a format, but a container just like mkv. divx/xvid or x264 are the codecs.

    @nemesis

    http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net

    Once you open your file in virtualdubmod, pick direct stream copy for both audio and video (if it allows it) and save as an avi (that way you don’t have to do any recompression).

    @Nemesis: you should try mkvtovob
    this app does not reeconde the file.. just convert the mkv to vob format, keeping video and audio and plays on ps3

    @ Reality
    HD files (at least the 720p ones) are far better in quality than the 600-700mb files, even when they’re both in DVD format upscaled via the Sony upconverters.

    I have kind of a noob question. I notice that the actual resolution is 1280×528, which is not 720p. It has black bars at the top, and I want to know why, and why they refer to it as 720p. I have bought bad santa bluray version for my ps3, and my 720p widescreen sony bravia tv, and notice that it is full widescreen, no black bars at all, however, when I downloaded the “720p” version from septic awhile ago, it had those annoying black bars, and was 1280×528.

    Why do rippers do that(not rip in the original 720p resolution)? Why do they call that 720p, when its clearly not? They do the same thing with dvds, not actually being 480p, but being 600something by 200 something. Someone please explain this to me, and if theres a place where I can download hd content in 720p without black bars, or if there is some type of software to edit the black bars off of the existing movies I have.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/720p
    720p assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, and a horizontal resolution of 1280 pixels for a total of about 0.92 million pixels.
