Apple still neglects Adobe Flash on iPhone
Flash is around the corner for Google’s G1 and Nokia’s Symbian smart phones; Flash on Blackberries likely coming as well; Apple continues its apathy towards Adobe. The best selling phone in America, Apple’s iPhone, could be the last of the smartphones to get Flash. At a slew of press events over the last few days, Adobe unveiled a new version of mobile version of Flash — a leaner, faster, smart phone-aimed version of Flash 10. The new version is optimized for ARM processors like the one used in the iPhone. Any smartphone with a 200 MHz or better processor and 16 MB of RAM should be able to run the new version of Flash, opening many phones up to the software. A “completely capable [Web] browser” is also required, implying support of typical standards.
Google’s G1 and future Android smartphones will likely soon be getting the update, either over the air or in Google’s store, although no official release date has been announced. Flash was demoed fully working on a T-Mobile G1 phone, though. It seems like Flash and the iPhone would be a logical fit, but Apple doesn’t think so. Adobe has tried to woo Apple first with ARM-support upgrades and now with even more ARM-processor optimization. The iPhone’s processor clearly can support Flash, and can support it well, but Apple remains obstinate in its refusal to adopt the technology.

You can already view sites like YouTube on the iPhone, so there’s really not much more need for Flash support. Generally, most popular websites don’t make heavy use of Flash anyway, so is it really worth the millions in licensing costs Apple would have to pay Adobe? It’s the best selling phone already - don’t fix what’s not broken.

Nice, I suppose it’s because having flash will let iphone users to download or make their own Flash programs, so Apple wants you to spend all you can on buying their apps, or paying for their software to develop apps, such a shame.
actually there’s no point this article if there’s no explanation of why apple does so.
They want you to pay them,have you noticed that you cant download any files to your iphone(possibly against music and video sharing) , cant use java applets , cant use bluetooth for sharing(media sharing again) , cant install non apple approved programs(unless you “jailbreak”) and the best of all you cant download videos from youtube you can just watch them so you cannot watch these videos if there is no wi-fi or if you are out of edge-3g coverage[and yes mobile network operators are paying money for selling THEIR phones and for that reason youre probably paying a lot of money for mobile internet services]

maybe because flash is really annoying (ads) a security hole and there is not a single usefull application beside video streaming (youtube) and thats already working .. so who gives a sht
Greed is the key with Apple and always has been. Sure you can install the OSX in an Intel based PC, but they don’t want that. They don’t want to sell the operating system, they want to sell the whole package. Sure they could make the batteries user replaceable, but they want to charge you a fee instead to replace it for you. It is all about trying to nickle and dime you. Their upgrades are costly as well and their systems are overpriced. Their greed is what has been holding Apple back and will eventually be their own downfall. Though I do have to admit they have a hell of a marketing team.
Well there is a lot of Flash based games out there and animation sites. Some people build websites strictly flash based.
Greed is the key with Apple and it always has been but their marketing strategy is what has been holding them back for so many years. Maybe now they have a good mainstream commercial marketing team to sell to the consumer and the innovative products (ipod,iphone) to back it up.. but they will now always fall short of market dominance to Microsoft as their business model had flaws to begin with. Gates saw that the more big companies who he could get to use Microsoft (IBM, cisco etc) would in time return more customers as more people would use his platform to develop software for. Whereas jobs in those days was attempting to sell his product with a tag rather than give it away free (like Gates) to big players in the electronics industry. Now they as so far behind it would take 10-15 more iphone like gadgets to come even halfway close.
The problem last I heard was due to the limits of the SDK restricting access to deeper levels of the operating system, a fault by Apple that they didn’t feel compelled to make exemption for the last time this topic came up.
People talk about youtube videos on the iphone but fail to realize that it was specified from day 1 that the videos you saw were re-encoded in h.264 and played back that way, you’re not loading a flash instance at all in those clips.
It would be nice if they actually “opened” their phone to development instead of choking everyone that makes an application.
One of the many bloody reasons I hate Apple, and always will if they keep up this “we’re so bloody awesome, and you fail” attitude towards other developers and customers. [not to mention that their products suck ass]

To be honest iPhone is working really great for me and the lack of flash has not meant anything for my day to day use! Sure you might miss a games but look at how much there is already in the AppStore or Cyndia (if hacked) so i dont understand the problem!
Look at other “smart” phones. How easy is it to install and find quality and good software. What apple have archived is not so little!
Ok i hate the for not having the full Bluetooth support like A2DP but give it time and i’m sure it comes but hating them for not having Flash is just stupid in my opinion. and hey they are like any company after money but who isnt???

Because there’s no way to spin the following TRUTH into something that sounds reasonable:
“Sorry, we’re a greedy bastard of a corporation who doesn’t really want to serve our clients unless it means we can nickel and dime them for every App on our online store.”

Apple has missed alot of things with the iphone, and never utilised the whole iphone to its full pontential and they seem to piss fart around with what they want to do, due to keeping profit margins up, the HTC touch phones are ready to rock and roll without having to wait and wait for firmware upgrades. Apple shouldn’t decide for all of us to say when we are able to use the features of the iphone when they allow us too. I want MMS now, I want better camera options (cropping) and video capture now, I want bluetooth transfer now….
Apple seems to have fallen way behind as many other company are bringing out similiar/competeting phone against the iphone they are capable to do all the things i want now! I should have waited!
The iphone seriously lacks in common functions such as copy/paste, video capture, camera settings (day/night mode, exposure, flash), and (to me) most important of all, office apps. honestly, i regret getting my phone. I should have waited for the HTC Dream or the G1. iphone FTL.
p.s. most of the apps in the app store are USELESS. its time to “jailbreak” my phone. APPLE FTL.
Probably not the smartest thing for Apple to be doing considering Adobe were one of the BIGGEST supporters/programmers of software for Apple in the day (and still are). Biting the hand that helps feed you is not good business sense…
and i neglect apple. who the fuk wants to spend hours converting video? they can keep their unfinished junk. nationite os-43 all the way for complete array of video codecs, excellent battery life, and a third the price. useless apps that drain battery, high powered old version wifi, an unfinished browser just to name a few things that discouraged me from the iCrap. its just too expensive! the 8gb should cost $100 but i guess greed will do that. I think adobe should retaliate and release updates for its apple software accordingly, meaning never. two can play at that game.
The point everyone misses here is that flash is very slow in linux and osx and uses a ridiculous amount of CPU, as shown by the benchmarkings of Ars Technica.
Also people likes to say this or that is crap because it lacks some key functionality they need. There could be a phone with everything you may possibly need, but it would be expensive and thick as a brick.
To say iPhone is a POS when it is the best selling phone in USA in the last quarter is neglecting the reality. Independent consumers associations from several countries say apple products are first when it comes to consumer satisfaction.
Thats the truth and you may want to google a bit before fabricating your own reality.
