I tried to update my old (non 3G) phone and received an iBrick as well. However, like a smarty pants, I made a backup right before I attempted to update. For some reason, restoring that back worked.

Update 2.2 killed my iPhone, Error 1611. Restore to Factory Settings is my only option

The problem that all u other non iphone users have is that the companies who you bought your phone from are designed just to get fools to buy them and 6 months down the track the release a better one, sure u may get 1 or 2 firmware updates but there is no where near the size of the community working on the iphone, is this the 7th or so firmware update with added features, looks quite promising.

Personally, I think the iPhone delivers more than any other phone can. The lack of mms, is basically the only downside of it. But when you take into account how amazing the web browsing and developer community is, it makes it worth while.

@4: What ‘necessary’ features is it lacking? It’s a phone and i’m pretty sure it can make calls.
