Apple iPhone official start date: June 29

It’s official… Apple Computer has announced starting selling its eagerly awaited iPhone in the US from the 29th of this month. The release date was announced amidst 3 television commercials showing off the phone’s large touch screen, its video-watching, music-playing, and photo-displaying capacities. And, Apple posted all 3 TV commercials on its Web site, it is learnt. Apple’s combination of cell phone, media player, and wireless Web surfing device will cost around $500 to $600, depending on the amount of memory included. And it will be sold through online and physical stores of Apple and AT&T, which is the exclusive service provider for the device.

The iPhone does not have a keypad, instead sports a touch-sensitive screen. The device was unveiled to a packed audience in early January this year by Steve Jobs, Apple’s Chief Executive Officer. Jobs had said the iPhone would appear in stores in June, but had given no specific date at the time. During the keynote, Jobs described the iPhone as ‘revolutionary’ and demonstrated its features, including Multi-Touch, a touch screen display system that can differentiate between and react to simultaneous touch from two fingers. The iPhone features a 3.5-inch display, 2-megapixel camera, headset and audio jacks, and an iPod dock. The first iPhone model would be quad-band GSM, meaning it would work in almost every major country in the world. And data transmission would be supported by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and EDGE.

There has been so much hype about the Iphone that I’m afraid it might end up being a big flop because only so much can be offered in a cell phone. I hope I’m proved wrong but I’m keeping my fingers crossed

Urgh, my hate for Apple knows no bounds. Soon all the idiots will be clambering for this because it has Apple’s logo on it.

Quick! Lets pay more for something just because they made it! Less features and worse battery life?! How can we lose!

“less features”? what the hell are you talking about?

  4. Kingofunrealuk
    June 4th, 2007 | 11:58

Does the iPod come with a FM radio? Nope.
Can you run third party apps on the iPhone? Nope.

Apple overcharge, i mean who the hell is willing to spend $100 on a black finish on their freaking iBook?

Dude, less features? This thing is amazing, just watch the Keynote about it… It is nothing like anything on the market rigth now!

    Not true Jazzani.
Dual point touch screens were made in the 80’s.
Any Nokia N series or SE P9xx series can do exactly the same thing, only with extra DRM and go buy stuff at the Apple store included.

    June 4th, 2007 | 12:01

Not in terms of the touch screen, just to clarify. I meant such as going on the internet, watching movies, listening to music etc. all at the same time.

lol already pirated versions in asia!!

  9. Hirmu
    June 4th, 2007 | 12:36

Yes, Apple products have “less features”, but the features they leave in Just Work.

So instead of having a device that can do a billion different things and suck at every single one of them, we’ll have a device that does a handful of tasks, but does them better and smoother than anything else.

    and is overpriced for it!

Ipods are just soooo overpriced because it’s a hype, that’s why I buy that kind of stuff second hand of the internet, fuck apple!

  11. Kingofunrealuk
    June 4th, 2007 | 12:40

Hirmu, you sound like one of the people off an Apple ad. How can it be WORSE to have more? Thats such backwards logic.

I want one of those babies. I’m actually sad that I don’t live in the US for once, so I can’t get it in june. Still, that may be a good thing because it’s bound to have all kinds of child diseases. Just think of the iPod, the battery on the first ones sucked bigtime.

I’m not a big fan of Apple perse, but you have got to admit that they’re in the frontlines. Design-wise, marketing-wise and technology-wise the are the current nr. 1. I mean, what idiot would buy a Zune when you can buy an iPod? The iPhone is going to break open the mobile phone market, unless the technology breaks up.

i agree with that guy who said we have to pay more 100 or 200$ to get a black apple instead of a white one, that is bad , i had an ipod video the problem is that we had to convert movies all the time to ipod format that takes a while but the rest seems ok, the iphone is great but i only use my phone to “make calls” not play around.

Kingofunrealuk, if you don’t like it don’t buy it.

Yeah maybe they aren’t as good bang for buck as other phones, like ipods.

But they’re sexy, easy to use and they’re popular BECAUSE THEY EARNT IT.

I’ve learnt over time that people hate everything that becomes popular / successful, be it the US, microsoft, apple, etc etc…

If something sells well, it’s doing something right. Doesn’t mean you have to be a fag about it.

Being popular doesn’t make something good you know, Mac eliteism is getting totally out of hand, even when Apple make bad decisions or fuck up royally (DRM-less MP3’s costing more) its a joke.

You can only run Apple things on Apple things.

    @Anthony Linton:
“I’ve learnt over time that people hate everything that becomes popular / successful, be it the US…”

Yeah, like their war in Iraq, pretty succesful, indeed…

    @topic:
This Apple hype is something I just can’t understand. I owned an iPod 3G 40GB and it was nothing special, IMHO. And then, shortly after the 1-year-warranty ran out, it was faulty. I was lucky that Amazon refunded the money I spent on it.
And while the iPhone might be nice I don’t really think it will be worth the money.

BTW: If you are looking for a good and DRM-free mp3-player, try http://www.cowonglobal.com/

I hate how it’s tied to shit phone companies, like AT&T and Rogers. You’re going to be bound into a contract that sucks, most likely.

The iPhone itself is a great product, although there could be some improvements. Like the PRICE, and the low megapixel (I think it’s 2) camera. For the price, I think that feature should be a little more advanced.

Anyway, I won’t be buying this until the price goes lower or until the company that is tied with the phone (which I think is Rogers in Canada) has better reception.

Well like the ipod apple will come with this in the market, ppl says its tooo expensive but end up buying it anyway, then gain significant market share, then third partys will try and reproduce their products but the quality wont be the same,

im amazed that apple have a vast effect on the market, companies tried to copy their ipod and now they all trying to copy this, what next?

You lot, enough already! You keep talking about the price, but one thing you seem to be forgetting is that iphone is aimed at high-end clients aka cooperate executives. How many of RSlog’s visitors have blackberries? Not many, I presume. Why? because we don’t need to; we’ve got our, cheap Nokias, sonyericssons, laptops and other junks. People who are constantly on the move are those who need these gadgets such as iphone, treo etc. And believe me, if I were a cooperate executive, I’d surely get one of these babies. Price? Heck, I earn thousands of pounds a week!
Apple deserve the praise and all the attention, and those who don’t agree- go shove your comments where the sun never shines!

the iphone does less than my smartphone does at the same price.. only thats a windwos mobile version…

To call this revolutionary is a joke. There are phones and PDAs that already do ALL of the things it can and with support of 3rd party programs.

The only reason to buy one would be to buy into the ilife that apples wants to sell you, or a misguided business that wants whet it perceves to be the best.

  31. June 4th, 2007 | 17:34

Shut the fuck up you stupid kids. This is the greatest thing since I was born…

  32. June 4th, 2007 | 18:18

Yes, its good. I would like to buy one. The truth is that they didn’t maked a very performant phone. The camera.. batery.. but, the touch screen & its look are killing the bad things.

    June 4th, 2007 | 18:26

Windows mobile has nothing to the iphone, now that they’re opening it up for 3rd party development.
Windows mobile is horrible, or atleast the manuafacturers using it are. HTC and HP continuously fail to get approved for certification to use on the newtwork of the mobile operator i work at.
the iphone will be a refreshing news that’ll fall right into the segment that we’re aiming for on the private side… the music lovers.
it’s expensive, yea. but so is any top of the line mobile handset. like nokia n95 or their classy phone, the 8800.

i dont really get the people that “hate” it because it’s apple. more diversity is a good thing. and maybe a 2 megapixel camera isnt the biggest rez anymore, but have you ever compared the pictures of the phones on a computer to pictures from any resonable quality camera. they’re horrid! and no amount of resolution increase is gonna help that. So give us a break from the trolling.

You gotta admire apples marketing team for being able to “sell” a product that has no innovations whatsoever that hasnt been implemented before.

But still i think it will be a success, just shows how easily people fall for marketing…

cyrus.perry you english inbred, the fact that thick pommies like you earn thousands a week doesn’t change the fact it’s a crap product. Apple are laughing to the bank becuase english clowns like you the southern and northern monkeys will buy anthing to look ‘it’. Loser.

Everyone here talks like a true expert about some product that’s not even on the market yet.

I think that there are MANY phones way better than the iPhone. Some have better battery life, some have better signal, and so on.

But, the people from Apple are very careful with their design, their software.. and this doesn’t mean that if they create something, we’ll be the best product. But Apple is on e of the best companies. They think simple, clean, they are very attentive to details, and you have to respect this.

Those of you who don’t like the iPhone, don’t buy it, and those of you who do, buy it. Is that simple.

Nobody cares about your opinion (I don’t usually post comments :D ).

Anybody who wants to play with this superb device and affords it will do it. I don’t talk very much on my cell phone, I keep it most of all for the mp3 player and video player. I’m very happy to have a single device that plays music and video content and let’s me send SMS and make/receive calls. I don’t need more than that. I don’t care about the 3g, about the camera (I have a canon 400D for the photos), and so on.

The battery life seems to be ok for such thin device and such big display.

There is so much to say.. but it’s late.. you get my point. Enjoy the iPhone :)
