I’m so surprised this it is up here as it was pretty much a local Brisbane production.
Each to their own when it comes to graffiti, I can understand why people dislike it. I personally enjoy it and can definatly appreciate good artistic work. If writers choose to advertise their work for free then go for it, I would much prefer see a really good piece of art outside my house than a 20 meter high billboard telling me to go eat at McDonalds. Honestly, most people that do it aren’t there to solely out to piss off the general public, it is more for the scene and for themselves.

How can you compare tagging and warez? Unlike tagging, no one ever lost a dollar on warez. I find tagging artistic just like you, and personally I find it alot more fine than all them silly culture statues that our state put up in the city.
Instead of tagging on trains, bus-stations, schools, you name it, why not go sell their work, adverise themself on billboards design for tagging.

Of course it’s easy to see that there are some true artists out there doing some of this tagging. However, ask yourself the question, did the owners of these properties/trains/etc. want their possessions decorated in such a manner? Imagine if it was your car, or your house, or perhaps something you yourself painted (such as a mural) or built with your own hands? Would you appreciate someone coming along and altering it forever against your wishes?
Why should we respect the work of artists who don’t respect the very canvas they create on?
