Here’s a small peek into Brazilian filmography: Angels of the Sun (Anjos do Sol) is a pretty successful Brazilian drama about child prositution and abuse. It’s a rather shocking film of personal life tragedy. The movie won numerous awards at film festivals and is rated extremely positive by both critics and audience. The audio in this release is Portugese, but there are English subtitles of course.

In Northeastern of Brazil, the father of the twelve years old illiterate Maria sells his daughter to Tadeu to be employed as a housemaid and have a better life. However, the girl is resold to the farmer Lourenço that deflowers her, and he gives the abused girl to his teenager son to have his first sexual experience. Then she is sent to a brothel in a gold field in Amazonas and explored his owner, the despicable Saraiva. When Maria escapes to Rio de Janeiro expecting a better life, she is explored by the cáften Vera.

    whats goin on with the scene ppl? kinda been slackin this month at the theaters. we dont have ’smart people’, ‘forgetting sarah marshall’,'where in the world is osama bin laden’,'harold & kumar escape guantanamo’,'baby mama’,'deception’. and with movies like ‘iron man’,’speed racer’, ‘what happens in vegas’, and plenty more, im left a lil worried that the scene wont provide.     Small correction. Whoever translated the synopsis, either is Brazilian, or did so from the NFO, more likely.

    “Explored” comes from the Portuguese, explorar. But in English we say to exploit. Clearly, explore is a “false friend”.
