If using the full English subs mentioned by No. 27 "hi" you will need in import them in to a word processor to correct the spelling mistakes and remove the rouge symbols, then import back into notepad and save as .SRT file

If you are watching the .AVI file on a computer, then place the .SRT file with the same file name (but different file extension) in the same location, i.e. film.avi – film.srt. Most media players will show the subtitles, WMP?

If you convert to a DVD then the transcoding/authering software can do the same, or be directed towards it.

With .SRT subs (and others as well) check that they are for the same frame rate, i.e. 23.976 fps, as different frame rates will make the subs go out of sync. Test using the above method.

I agree with @21 staff, if you are going to say something is extended, can you please tell us what? I mean most people just would not download a bluray for an extra two or three minutes of film. Thanks for your understanding and your site is much appreciated.
