ANACAPRI THE DREAM-POSTMORTEM

German crackers POSTMORTEM have released a new adventure game called Anacapri the Dream. The release is about 5 GB in size on 2 DVD5’s and unpacks at about 7 GB which means this is a big game by anyone’s standards. This file size looks like it has been put to good use though because the screens below look nothing short of superb (real photos) and with a claimed 50 hours plus of game play i can see the file size being justified. Being an adventure game you have to actually engage your brain to to solve the puzzles and clues instead of the running and gunning gameplay that is so popular nowadays. The game comes with only English and Italian languages and has no kind of copy protection clinging onto it, not even a serial which is great! Adventure games generally have large file sizes just because they need large, detailed landscapes to made an engaging game and the size of the game coupled with it being in the adventure genre will put most off Anacapri the Dream which i think is a real shame. I used to love playing the adventure genre when i was a kid and this looks to have graphics, engaging storyline and puzzles to make a great, fun game! Defiantly something i will be leeching but not for most gamers.

“Anacapri the Dream” is an adventure game set in the island of Capri, mostly in the upper regions of Capri called Anacapri. You play the role of Dr. Nico N, an expert of the ancient civilizations. You are invited to Anacapri to accomplish a very difficult task: find the extremely powerful, but malicious Obsidian Disk. But what is this Obsidian Disk? Why is it so dangerous? Quickly you will find out that what you think as reality is in fact an illusion – the truth is far beyond what you have imagined…

“Anacapri the Dream” is an explosive mix of mythology, literature, legends and history of the island of Capri. You will interact with real townspeople, legendary and historical Anacapri characters, such as famous doctor and writer Axel Munthe, philosopher Gunnar Adler-Karlsson, as well as several mythical characters such as Nereus, Poseidon, the Siren and the Nereids. Your quest for the Obsidian Disk will plunge you into the magical scenery of the Capri island; you will explore the deep Blue Grotto, sail the sea around the Faraglioni, traverse Tiberius’ Roman villas of Damecuta and Palazzo a Mare, climb up Mount Solaro, wander across the Path of the Forts, visit the mystical hermitage of Cetrella, Villa San Michele and the Philosophical Park. Your journey will eventually lead to the final upsetting revelation and a thrilling alternate ending.

umm the game is just still photos. you don’t need a beast of a machine to display still photos. i hope you didn’t think those screens were real-time rendered 3d or something…

Like comment 8 said, you don’t need “a beast of a machine”. The screenshots are mostly still pictures, and not 3D renderings like a FPS. Some parts of the game ARE ‘3D’, but most of it are just pictures. It still looks beautiful though. But since I’m not into games like Myst (I rather have Mandingo perform a ‘probing’ on me than playing that shit) I’ll pass on this 7Gb waste of space.

Are they selling this stuff or giving it away free at your local travel agent? Looks like a big ad for the island with some loopy plot to justify it.

I’m a fan of adventure games, but still photos for screens (no matter how much “panning” you can apparently do) seems a bit naff :(

  12. July 18th, 2007 | 15:26

I must say I was quite a bit shocked when I saw those screenshots. Wondering why no one was taking this one up against the upcoming Crysis (which I don’t think will ever release)

#12 Why would you think Crysis is never gonna be released? Have you seen the latest videos from E3? It’s gonna be released around 4th of September this year. Check out: http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2509.html

    could someone please seed this….

  21. July 18th, 2007 | 18:47

Yes I also though myst when I shall the first screenshot. It reminded me of myst III:eXile. It looks really good though.
The only thing I have a problem with is the 5.20 gigs of downloaded goodness. I already downloaded 6+ gigs this month.

Cool, I usually prefer a bit more raw excitement, but it’s great to see something different, there’s enough fps etc to last a lifetime already. I wonder what ‘walking mode’ is?

    7gb slideshow – pass.

I normally like these sorta games (eg Penumbra Overture) but slideshow games kinda went out in the 90’s

I just tried it, and don’t bother downloading this piece of crap… It’s now busy for 10 minutes already trying to uninstall (well preparing the uninstaller) 25000+ files, which were all dumped in one directory.
It’s just a clickable slideshow of pics, with sometimes some audio. Even the ancient Myst is ten times better than this. Oh, and “walking mode” is just clicking around the island without storyline.
Why the hell does this even get featured on rlslog?!

Quote: “Don’t be fooled by the low system requirements below because you will need a pretty recent PC to get decent framerates out of it when set at the higher detail levels.”
…idiot. Any animation in this “game”, is a couple jpgs displayed after eachother. And some twinkling lights here and there, which look just mongy on a still photo.

  28. July 19th, 2007 | 00:25

Yea im still human i get things wrong… I will edit the post but in the future just saying that its wrong is sufficient calling me an idiot is uncalled for.
BTW i am enjoying this game even if you dont thats why it is posted on rlslog. Just because you dont like it doesnt mean others wont. It’s called choice…

Besides, who in their right mind would wanna install 25k+ of images onto their PC. You are simply asking for hard drive trouble.

I’m sure you would need a format get the hard disks sectors and address tables back into a decent state. Feel sorry for you guys who installed this junk.

    July 19th, 2007 | 20:53

Well boo hoo, block everybody then. I just got ticked of after downloading something of this size. I’m sorry for calling you an idiot, but that quote was just made-up nonsense. Could have saved some people from downloading this. I usually like the myst type games too, but this was really bad. Sure it’s everybody’s choice to download crap, but maybe there should be a “games-ts/r5/junk”-ish category then.

  35. fghf
    July 19th, 2007 | 22:08

aerowen, that makes no sense…your opinion on the quality of a game is in no way similar to the difference between a ts and dvdrip. Shiny made a mistake, big deal. If you pay attention instead of just asking rlslog to spoon-feed you, then you could have known what the game was before you dled.

  36. aerowen
    July 19th, 2007 | 22:43

I knew what the game was, the feature list sums it up, 8000+ photo’s of the island, “gorgeous computer graphic animations”, myst style stuff, puzzles. So yeah, I’d download that. Since it is years after myst, I just expected it to be a bit better than myst, not worse.
Has nothing to do with not paying attention or spoon-feeding. I thought this site was posting the better, more interesting releases. If you’re going to post both good and bad then it’s useful to at least indicate when it’s not worth downloading innit? As is being done in a way with ts/r5 categories for movies.

  37. Wootwoot
    July 20th, 2007 | 01:41

Shiny last night either rlslog was slow or my entire internet was but the pictures weren’t loading for me but after reading your praise for the graphics ans seeing the 7gb I was hooked.

I’m a big fan of adventure games and figured one being 7gb has gotta be a pretty engaging story.

Holy fuck is this game bad. Horrible programming, shitty menus… The fucking instructions to set your resolution rigth are instructions to go into display manager and set your desktop resolution. THIS GAME IS BAD BAD BAD.

Remove this garbage from the page totally so it doesn’t mistakenly end up on anybody else harddrive. And jesus the installer was garbage and the uninstaller is even worse.

  38. fghf
    July 20th, 2007 | 08:55

aerowen, the game is rlsed in perfect quality, there is no equivalent to an r5 or ts…it’s like asking for the films to be split into a ‘good’ section and a ‘bad’ section – that’s a subjective opinion so it really mkes no sense to do that…the only real split in games is between iso and not…game scene could allow cracked demos or homemade iso, which would be equivalent to ts/r5/etc, but as that’s outside scene rules it’s irrelevant.

  39. Perfectionist
    July 20th, 2007 | 20:59

aerowen, thats why you can comment, so other people can post their views. Im not like most downloaders, i download to find out if the game is any good so when ive got money i can go and buy it.

The people who have released this have saved me money because the game is absolutely crap, thanks goes to rlslog aswell!

It is just a pure picture slide show, the characters do not move except when it goes to the next picture.. also the voices i think aint that good.

I thought ‘Delaware’ is better than this, voices not bad, graphics ok and a nice spooky atmosphere. 3rd volume coming soon!!!

  40. aerowen
    July 21st, 2007 | 01:55

fghf, I never meant a real equivalent to r5/ts, just in quality terms. So yes, maybe something like good and bad. And if you really think that makes no sense and is subjective, I suggest you download this game… I doubt you (or anyone else) will come to a different conclusion than Wootwoot in post #39.
I’m not really pushing for a ‘bad’ category though. I just liked rlslog because it was showing the better releases that come out everyday, not every release. I understand some crap might slip through sometimes, but recently it looks like if they’re trying to show a lot more (crap) releases. Just for the sake of “it’s a release”. I could just go to nforce.nl and pick a release at random instead.

aerowen, I appreciate what you’re saying, but I think you’ll have to accept that others may have a differing opinion of what’s good. There are reviews of the game online that could help you decide whether or not it’s a game for you, such as:

    Negative:
    http://www.hookedgamers.com/articles/preview/266/anacapri_–_the_dream
    Positive:
    http://www.quandaryland.com/jsp/dispArticle.jsp?index=812

    Besides that, Shiny already said:
    “i am enjoying this game”

If it was up to me TMNT would be left well alone, but it’s reviewed on rlslog five times, plus the soundtrack…that’s not useful to me but I have to accept their opinions because, well, it’s not my site. :)

  42. July 23rd, 2007 | 01:24

    uuurgh, yuck!

    sorry…

but this game clearly sucks ass

lol, to anyone who has a different opinion please please download it (like i unfortunately did)

and if you think the soundtrack is great, then hats off to you mate,…

rlslog = virus infected torrents, and shitty games & movies, steadily going downhill…

I can’t play it. Getting a runtime fault? WTF?? I’ve never had that in any other game.. Anyone got an idea why? It doesn’t happen until I try to click on the first envelope. I’d like to at least have a try at the game. :)
