PLOT: Based on a true story that shocked the nation in 1965, the film recounts one of the most shocking crimes ever committed against a single victim. Sylvia and Jennie Fae Likens, the two daughters of traveling carnival workers are left for an extended stay at the Indianapolis (3850 E. New York St. is hardly suburban, nor was it in 1965, by any stretch of the imagination.) home of single mother Gertrude Baniszewski and her six children. Times are tough, and Gertrude’s financial needs cause her to make this arrangement before realizing how the burden will push her unstable nature to a breaking point. What transpires in the next three months is both riveting and horrific, leaving one child dead and the rest scarred for life.

Haven't seen this version, but there is another call "The Girl Next door" (2007 film version) & this was seriously F'd up. Although The Girl Next Door had a more of a sexual abuse tone to it than the real events.
Eitherway, this is true horror.
I enjoy coming back 3 days from now… to find the movie I was interested in today.

Looked the true story up on Wikipedia and felt no need whatsoever to see this movie. Made me sick.
Great movie, amazing acting, but VERY tough to watch. If you can handle it this is a must see, but its definitely not for everyone.

Great film, really well-acted, but such a brutal grind to watch, always with the knowledge that it's based on a true story. Just horrifying.

@5 "The Girl Next Door" is a fictionalized account. American Crime is supposedly taken from the court documents related to the case. Both are very disturbing!

Every day isn't worse. Each day you learn more about how low a human being can go, ergo each day seems worse to you. In the end, the world is as bad as when you were a blue eye'd child. Isreal was still blowing the crap out of school kids in Gaza then and I knew nothing about it. Today I know and this makes me feel like things are getting worse. However it is just my experience and understanding growing. I feel worse, but the world is just the same as it was yesterday.
