American Gangster DVD SCREENER XViD-PUKKA

It has been a long time that I posted a DVDScr in this website. Once I’m awake and earlier this night I was thinking about this movie, I thought of making this post. A movie that many will want to watch, comes immediately in DVDScr quality. A movie that stars 2 Academy Award Winners, Russell Crowe and my favorite one, Denzel Washington. Why is this release so early? The only thing I can imagine is that they have released a DVDScr for Academy Award purposes. Do not be surprised to see more of this early DVDScr releases in the next 2 months, last year we had the same thing around X-mas. The movie looks very promising and I will not be surprised to see it between the other “IMDB Top 250″ movies in a few months. I will honor my favorite actor by watching this in the big screen. Enjoy!

Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Brian Grazer, Steve Zaillian and Ridley Scott team to tell the true juggernaut success story of a cult hero from the streets of 1970s Harlem in “American Gangster.” Nobody used to notice Frank Lucas (Oscar® winner Washington), the quiet driver to one of the inner city’s leading black crime bosses. But when his boss suddenly dies, Frank exploits the opening in the power structure to build his own empire and create his own version of the American Dream. Through ingenuity and a strict business ethic, he comes to rule the inner-city drug trade, flooding the streets with a purer product at a better price. Lucas outplays all of the leading crime syndicates and becomes not only one of the city’s mainline corrupters, but part of its circle of legit civic superstars.

amcvnsfp00020r16778b8sy3.jpg

Richie Roberts (Oscar® winner Crowe) is an outcast cop close enough to the streets to feel a shift of control in the drug underworld. Roberts believes someone is climbing the rungs above the known Mafia families and starts to suspect that a black power player has come from nowhere to dominate the scene. Both Lucas and Roberts share a rigorous ethical code that sets them apart from their own colleagues, making them lone figures on opposite sides of the law. The destinies of these two men will become intertwined as they approach a confrontation where only one of them can come out on top.

amcvnsfp00014r167d501wb4.jpg

Washington (”Training Day”) and Crowe (”Gladiator”) lead a spectacular cast of accomplished and rising stars–including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Josh Brolin, Armand Assante, RZA, John Ortiz, John Hawkes and Ted Levine in this blistering tale of a true American entrepreneur directed by Oscar® nominee Ridley Scott (”Gladiator”) and produced by Academy Award® winner Brian Grazer (”A Beautiful Mind”) and Scott from a screenplay by Academy Award® winner Steve Zaillian (”Schindler’s List”).

i know many dont like RS, but, it works, with a premium account i can pull down at speeds of 1300kb on multiple files, plus free users can still get all the files, they just have to wait a little – but … there are also a number of programs out there that specifically target RS to try and get you files directly without having to wait :)

as they say, the bigger something is, the more of a target it becomes for the hackers

OPEN THE VIDEO WITH WMP. For those who use VLC (like me), just bear the pain of using WMP for this movie. It’s worth it.

Ok, once you open the movie.

    Go to:

    Tools > Options > Perfomance.

And on the “Video Acceleration” slide, move it to the center. It should clear up the image A LOT! .. Moving the whole slide to “none” won’t let you full-screen.

This worked for me, and it works for me in every video when the image is dark.

@229 bewb, you can change the brightness with VLC, too. Just use CTRL-G and set the brightness and/or gamma. If you want you can save it (using preferences) so every movie brightens up a bit.

Only downside is that you can see the color transitions very clearly in the darker parts if you brighten it.

  65. r0tt3n
    October 25th, 2007 | 05:20

    I can (sort of)

The reason they’re so big is because virtualdub is completely de-compressing the files… so you have to specify everything about how it should re-compress them. I would recommend downloading the xvid codec personally… anyways… you need to install something to use to re-compress it. I would recommend looking at http://www.divx-digest.com for tutorials on what settings to use when compressing using xvid or anything else. Anyways… Virtualdub is the professional way to go for sure, and along with that comes the requirement that you learn how the pros do it.

  66. r0tt3n
    October 25th, 2007 | 05:23

    @268

I don’t believe it’s possible to apply a filter and have direct stream copy for video… I just tried it, and it basically ignored the filter entirely. You have to use full processing mode, and select and specify the type of compression to use for video (use direct stream copy for audio though – that part was right).

Tried that and it doesn’t work. Need to compress it I guess.

@Mikael those arent RAR files, you need HJsplit to re-join them, it’s free … hit google, and grab the 0.3 beta, it’s nice and simple to use

I have to agree with bozeman – the direct stream copy is as dark as the original.

Anyone a suggestion what compression and settings to take?

    Cheers,
    Dan

in virtual dub, if you select direct stream video, it will turn off the filters, you have to select the filters then set the number of passes in the xvid config, if you leave it at default it will do a single pass and produce a file of about 450 (per original cd file) which screws the quality.

i think you need to use 2 passes, but i havent tried that yet

If you use divx compression with virtual sub, there is a nice little bit rate calculator that worked great for me

I saw how dark this looked on WMP after I dl’ed it. I also tried the virtualdub last night and got a 68 gigabyte file (only first half of the movie!!!). I thought “oh, man… do I have the skillz to dl some other software to make this look right?” Well…

Then I read a couple people say they played it on their DVD player and it looked fine.

So I thought, “What the hell.” I had already made a copy with ConvertXtoDVD but figured the movie would be dark.

It looks fine!!! No kidding. I don’t know why it looks so dark on the computer…? Honestly. It really looks good. Not dark. Just normal.

Anyone know how the DREAMLIGHT DVD-R version looks compared to this?

Was the brightness screwed up on that too, or is it just a PUKKA error? And why isn’t this nuked for the brightness error?

  94. BigSimpsin
    October 25th, 2007 | 23:01

I figured it out. On Vdub first load the movie. Go to video->filters. Click on “Add”. Click on brightness/contrast set it one notch behind 175%. Then go to Video-> Compression Make sure it is set at divx or xvid. Click OK and go to file->Save as AVI or just click F7. You need to decide where you want to put the file. Click OK. A status bar thing will pop up. Wait til its done. Burn and enjoy.

sorry, hibby, but aXXo won’t be releasing any American Gangster movie for months to come… He normally gets dvdrips around a month before the movie releases on DVD, so we’d be waiting a long, long time for any dvdrips to come out, no matter what downloads say… And don’t complain about it being nuked or not with the color and brightness, if you see the commercials on TV, the movie has the color scheme that way because that’s how it was filmed… And I converted the movie with WinAVI on my PC and I combined the two AVI files to one title, so it runs smoothly all the way through… First off, you won’t be able to prove the brightness has been nuked, because when i converted it to DVD the brightness was totally fine, and it’s gnna be the best quality out for a long time, and I for one am glad and am not complaining… Personally I think it may be nuked as in the bottom of the picture is cropped I think because it looks weird at the bottom on tip of the top of the lower black bar for the widescreen, but hey, PUKKA is the man for getting this movie to us, you won’t be able to prove it’s nuked for a long time to come… And Dreamlight ain’t got nothing on PUKKA! RLSLOG is my hero :)

i’ve got both copies now and to be honest i dont like the DREAMLiGHT one, it still seems dark on my pc and it’s almost like it’s not as sharp an image, look closely and i can see jagged edges on sharp lines like edges of buildings, but i havent tried burning it yet, and i havent played the pukka one in the same player on my pc as the DREAMLiGHT one, i’ll do a little more comparisons tomorrow and also burn a couple of copies and see how it turns out

either way, credits to both groups for the better than average early releases, way cool to get anything close to watchable, let alone of this quality so early …. respect :)

Just finished watching , dragged AVI to disk, did not convert, changed brightness on home DVD player …. Movie wasn’t bad at all.
    Very watchable….
    Sound was good also.
    Thx PUKKA & RLSLOG

This is a great movie. I watched it earlier.

Good quality on the rip too; except for the lack of color saturation.
