Ok dude... so:
Intel = two dual-core wafers glued toghether = Same shit, bigger price & more heat!

AMD = 4 cores that share a L3 Cache so that processing can be done inside the CPU, among the cores, without the data leaving it (if instructed so)! = In the future, one Core could be a GFX processor, one a PhysX PU and the other two regular CPU's... CPU name: AMD Fusion

MS doesn't love intel... that's why when intel tried to push an agreement between them for it to be the exclusive company to deliver 64-bit PU, MS just pissed on that agreement and released Windows XP PRO 64 with support for AMD64 CPU Family.

It makes me laugh at intel fanboyz and careless consumers that don't know a thing about PC's!

Have you ever read the Intel errata on its C2D CPU critical bugs?

Guess not... requires to many neurons just to process that information for the average bragger!

Even though I'm not a kernel dev. I understand what intel did! Throw on the market a lot of T R A S H, like C2D (true, fast trash, but trash nevertheless) and let the dumb kids buy it and brag about how expensive and fast their rig is!

It has bugs!... for f. sake! You could just throw that out the Window!

The errata bugs, the critical ones gave the OpenSource comunity devs that do Linux kernels a lot of headaches. The only thing they said would resolve those few nasty bugs is a new CPU rev, which from july '07 should be ready in... oh, a year! nice one braggerz! So you'll have GOOD intel CPUs on the market by mid 2008... and I doubt that you could go to any hw store with the old chip and demand a new rev for the older buggy one!

These bugs are said to cause system instability and freezing when triggered... but that's just a speculated result from past experiences! In reality de kernel devs don't know and they don't care about the consequences so for what's it worth: what if they corrupt data?... then intel's Core CPU's, no matter how many cores they have of how fast they are in benchmarks, are useless!

The interesting thing is, Core Duo (so Core 1) doesn't have those bugs... but neither did it perform as good as C2D!

http://kerneltrap.org/node/8472

Just so that a googles might get any idea... any CPU has bugs, even AMD... it's just that CD2's are severe!

Regarding multicore... ppl said it already, it's just a marketing hype! A why on earth would you need 4 cores on a laptop?... so that your batteries would last 20 min? When buying a laptop look at how much the battery lasts, at the general power comsumption and not how many cores it has or how fast it is! For that we have desktops and if that's not good enough grid-computing with SPARCS whould do it ;P

i know that but we all know that windows still have a HUGE consumer market share compared to linux.

damn windows !! lol
/me still use windows for apps compatibility even if ubuntu is better (WINE made alot of progress but thats not enough for stopping me using win :( )

Ubuntu + Compiz Fusion FTW :D !!!

Hopefully AMD gets it shit together and starts putting out product that can compete performance and price wise with Intel processors, otherwise we'll be back to having Intel overprice its chips.
@ 28 you might not be able to run Windows on SPARC, but Linux runs just fine.

SPARC is not a consumer product and will never be ;)

Only VIA,AMD and INTEL are targeting consumer market.

Try running windows on a SPARC cpu and you will understand why its not popular on home desktop :P
