Amazon: 17 Wiis sold each second

When they were in stock — during a brief, miraculous moment in time — the Nintendo Wii flew off Amazon.com’s virtual shelves at 17 units per second. Amazon released a bunch of random statistics on the day after Christmas to show how its 13th holiday shopping season was the best ever. This also included the fact that Amazon sold enough high-definition DVD players to cover seven football fields and that if you lined up all the GPS units sold, it would make a trail from New York to Philadelphia (By my math, that would be about 1.7 million GPS machines, assuming that they’re 3.5 inches each and that the distance between New York and Philadelphia is about 94 miles).

The top sellers in consumer electronics were the Garmin GPS machines, Canon PowerShot digital Elph cameras and Samsung LCD HDTVs. And among computers, the top sellers were the Apple MacBook, Nokia Internet Tablet PC and HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC, Amazon said. Amazon also provided some fun statistics. It says it sold one Wii every 17 seconds during the holiday selling season, but only when they were in stock. It sold enough high definition DVD players (i.e. Blu-Ray and HD DVD) to cover 7 football fields. I guess every family will own a Wii soon…

    you shuld change it from high-definition DVD players to Blu-ray/HDDVD players, your making it sound like it only HDDVD sold that many even tho you included parentheses at the end, but not on the first reference

    I’ve read the arguments pro and con for making rlslog register-only… the big argument against it is that most people won’t bother to comment coz it’ll be too hard.

    Even reading the few posts on this article.. are you SURE you don’t want to make it register-only? :)

    Anyway, just use a COOKIE to remember login, like the “remember me” option in every other forum on the internet, and suddenly that issue goes away.

    It will STILL be just as easy to post a comment. You can even do away with the “turing test”.

    Please take this advice - make it register-only. The people who really want to contribute here will register.

    At least do a POLL on it. The only downside to a poll is that 90% of the respondents will be the trolls not the contributors.

    But seriously, it makes sense, doesn’t it?

    That’s because amazon is awesome. I always order my electronics from them, being able to read everyones review to find out if its good or not is awesome! You should put up an amazon link for each torrent to purchase the actual movies/games/music/software if we want to support the makers rather than only downloading it.

    in germany they are releasing the sets from season to lost galaxy. you could change the audio into english if you have amazon.com account it will also work on amazon.de

    I have a wii and its awsome!
    I have ps3, pc, psp, ds and i have to say its the most fun out of the lot (excluding counter strike source!!! :D)

    If any are worth the money its the wii!

    so so so much fun!

    oh the reg thing is good, but then we are getting into forum stuff which is different from this format.

    Maybe getting a few regular decent posters as MODs on rlslog?!

    Just an idea :D

    Dear Martin,

    Please tell Mr.X to enable comments on his post again. We need to channel our anger and frustration on him.

    Where else can we do that if not on Mr.X’s posts? On yours? Well we cant do that can we?

    And by the way, his posts generates hates which generates visits. And if you haven’t noticed, internet is a very good medium to channel all the anger built up from all the hate in the world.

    I dont like the way how people mark others. When you say your opinion and plus that, do couple mistakes, you get instantly marked. Eventhough I dont know mr.X well… He still has right for opinion - Everybody has. Therefore next time he does something “racist” dont flame him, ask him why does he think that way? and what has driven him to that opinion?

    Now on to Mr.X. I happen to think EVERYBODY is entitled to hate anybody they feel like hating. Theres no need to Flame him because you think he’s racist. Have we really become so politically correct that we need to censor peoples opinions?

    I refuse to believe that any enlightened people could be influenced by reading such posts or indeed that such posts incite further racism.

    For the record I happen to think that some of his uploads and posts are excellent but his opinions are a little juvenile…. but they’re just opinions and they should fall on deaf ears. I’m just happy that the vast majority of people can think for themselves.

    I don’t get it… There’s no shortage at all over here in Europe. *shrug* Well, at least no delivery delays for a Wii purchased like 4 days before christmas. I think they even had them in stock. Sometimes I think this is set up by US chains to make them seem more attractive. :-S
