Releaselog

All Points Bulletin-RLSLOG-READNFO-2007-WTF

We obviously love our readers and the fellow sceners as well – world would be much darker without either of them and this site couldn’t really exist. Not all sceners share the love though and some open-minded fiends pred a wonderful music release with our name in the title – I couldn’t help but download it (and upload for you)! A 2 MB file was pred as a country mp3 release, which scared me a bit. Come on, we don’t deserve this, even entrants in our Birthday Competition submitted some fine chiptunes or electronic music! What’s more, the title says to read the NFO, but there wasn’t anything like this. Finally, the folder included one mp3 file (Brent Amaker and The Rodeo – Get The Hell Out), so it didn’t even fitted the release name. Therefore I pronounce it officially NUKED. :-) And yeah, we got the message, but you could be little more creative in your tiny attempt to express your love of us…

UPDATE: so it looks the anonymous someone who released this actually put the NFO in the release, it was just my source which didn’t have it. Well, it’s nothing too interesting, just a list of our leet IRC vhosts and all other people in our IRC channel – including two other possibly heavily scene-connected guys. So the song wasn’t probably aimed at us after all…

Why would someone whos in nuclear nukenet and so heavy into the scene with his nuking powers want to put himself in a public channel?

    February 4th, 2008 | 23:28

does this mean that rlslog is expecting an attack?
even though the site itself doesnt host a single torrent?

  24. February 4th, 2008 | 23:29

@Arnold Bread: i don’t really know or care but it says something about definitive closure, may be someone with knowledge of french could translate it…

Le site est ferme definitivement grace a YouAndMe, Il merite bien un leech sur vos sites. Au fait, le fichier rar a ete diffuse depuis l’adresse ip suivante : 82.253.78.224

  25. February 4th, 2008 | 23:31

@23 no, we do not expect any attack. we experienced few ddoses in past, but i dont see a reason for something like that now…

  26. nutt3r
    February 4th, 2008 | 23:34

“The site is firm definitively thanks to YouAndMe, It merite well a leech on your sites. With the fact, the file rar has ete diffuse since following address IP: 82.253.78.224″

  32. shocker
    February 5th, 2008 | 00:00

Here’s the correct translation of the french thing:
“The site is definitely closed thanks to YouAndMe, who deserves a good leech on your sites. By the way, the .rar file has been broadcasted (uploaded?) from the following IP adress: 82.253.78.224.”

don’t you get it? they want RLSLOG out of the picture, hence the fake releases and irc channel info file.

to tell the truth, I find it a tad worrying that Martin and some others actually tell that they’ve downloaded a release and intend to use it (watch a video etc). that’s basically incriminating proof.

  39. Totalbalance
    February 5th, 2008 | 00:57

I don’t really understand why people call the scene private. I for the most part say that it never has been and never really will be. There has always been public IRC chans and access to Fserves and FTP was never hard to get. Way back when i was much younger I had distro access in #VCDvault after 3 days of serving in the chan. Sure its more public now but that was bound to happen. Attacking the P2P groups and RLS sites isnt going to change that now. You wanna blame anyone for this blame kazaa way back when. Im afraid the scene is no longer private nor will it ever be again.

  40. dugan
    February 5th, 2008 | 01:03

@35 i agree, it was only a matter of time before rlslog became the scenes next target.

  41. fourth.
    February 5th, 2008 | 01:11

    “sharing is caring”
I though we were all united.
I knew there was compertition between scene groups on whos the first to release files, and nukes and all that, but now theres a war on p2p?
    Why? lack of security?
    i just dont get it.
Obviously the scene releases get leaked on to p2p by people within the scene, why target the channel of distribution instead of eliminating the problem at the source?

  42. Ksawery
    February 5th, 2008 | 01:12

WTF is this sh!t all about?

  43. fourth.
    February 5th, 2008 | 01:13

wudnt it also be alot easier to go to the root of the problem?!

you cant shut down all p2p, its impossible. The number of people and computers(servers and all that crap) are too large.

The number of people in the scene is MUCH smaller.

  44. Can I just say...
    February 5th, 2008 | 01:17

the scene has always been private and then “leaked” to the public. sceners are dumb as hell if they think they can stop stuff from going public, it’s a stupid belief. its the internet ppl. real sceners know there isn’t anything you do about it, people who do stuff like this are kiddies, plain and simple.

    @47 toaster

the leaks made the scene loose money,,simple like that, and not a kid story
expenses ,content delivery are to be met by scenes, private tracker agreement,
some leaks coming from (you know who) were expensives to them

    see were that is going

  50. February 5th, 2008 | 02:01

    Hi!
I was a writer for rlslog.fr… it’s down because YouAndMe (an old writer) wanted his account to be destroy. The boss wasn’t agree (don’t know why :p) so YouAndMe gave his username/pass on the irc. The “boss” has decided to close the site because some peole who were hating the site (yeah it’s public we know) had access to the IP of some of our visitor who had left comments, and of the writer.
I don’t think it’s going to be up again :(
By the way, the translation his: “the website is definitely close, thanks to YouAndMe. He sure earn a leech from your topsite. By the way, the rar was uploaded from the ip: 82.253.78.224.

The scene is worried about leaks. Not for the money or eliteness or whatever…
They are worried because nowadays the public can get scene stuff in a matter of minutes after pre. Now when the main audience gets the scene releases, MPAA etc watchdogs will target even more on piracy. If the main audience wouldn’t get so many scene releases this quick, they wouldn’t try to get it to a hold that hard. Fot movie companies etc. it’s all about money; for scene it’s all about safety. The scene is entitled to protect their asses. It sure isn’t going to stop, and I’m not mixing in the discussion if it’s the scene’s own fault. Just take a view from their situation.
Must be disturbing if a die-hard scener, and especially someone from the scene-core (nukenet) sort of speak has been spotted in a p2p chan. It’s not only about leaks, or scene/p2p mix-ups, but about security and safety. If watchdogs bust the scener or something, it might lead to the scene-core, I guess.
Just keep in mind scene releases were never intend to get to the mainstrain public. Especially if watchdogs will try harder to hit the sources. Unwanted attention.

Btw, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is some sort of set up for a corrupt nuker; nuke-wars have been around lately, and there are supposedly some dirty poltics going on. Other words: some grp members have links/members to nukenet. They have been trying to nuke another grp’s release and thus could proper.
Some rumours have been around Pukka has a hidden agenda regarding this. They are a major player within the scene. They could easily ask a nuker which is linked to them to find a dumb nuke-reason.
Some other group just might want to expose the nuker which is corrupt in their eyes.
    Scene politics.

I have a very important question to everyone. I’ve searched for a way to post this comment in this forum was the only place i could find. How ever Comcast “cable company’ which is my cable company in Illnois, Has shut down my internet due to downloading pirated torrent movies. A Customer service tech even explained to me which movies were on my desktop and which programs i used to dl those torrents with. How is that possible, and is that legal?.. My question basicly is… Is this legal and are they aloud to view my personal info on my computer. What I do with the broadband i purchase FROM them, should be only viewed by me, and my household
