Aleksandra 2007 R5 XviD-DPK

These guys did it again: group DPK became a synonym for movies with Russian audio with releasename missing the “russian” tag. Aleksandra (or rather Alexandra) looks like a cool war drama, but it’s absolutely useless in this form, when only people speaking Russian can understand it. Of course there are no subtitles either so I suggest to wait till some group with a bit of sence releases the proper…

Director A. Sokurov tells the story of an ailing grandmother who struggles to visit her grandson, an officer in the Russian army, in a camp in Chechnya during that region’s current civil war. The director manages to avoid shots of battle and death and instead concentrates intensely on the landscape of the camp and town and, tellingly, of his leading actress’ face, the great Russian opera soprano Galina Vishnevskaya.

Just to add my 2c before a million people post about the movie not being in English: DVD region 5 (R5) is Russia, so doublecheck the .nfo on R5s to make sure it’s English. If you see R5.LINE, it’ll be in English.

If the movie is a foreign movie, regardless of the type, doublecheck the .nfo. Hell, doublecheck every .nfo – they’re there for a reason!

yeah who ever posted this is a duchebag come on before you post releases make sure you know what youre talking about – theres no need for a “PROPER” neither as this was never released on english and there is no need for a tag since R5 IS RUSSIAN!!!!!! only tag needed is R5.LINE because thats in english!!!!! jeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!!!!

Why the hell are you posting the stuff? can i expect you to post dutch, german, czech, polish, french and zimbabwe scene releases too? why russian?

maybe rlslog should make an extra country category? and post the releases in the native language.

don’t get me wrong, russian cinema brought forth some nice movies.. i especially like the nightwatch/daywatch trilogy (3rd part has yet to come out). but ONLY with english translations, the same language you write your blog in.

btw: one other possibility, a russian movie without spoken words. like the old movie “potemkin”.

i hope in the future either all local releases will show up or none. i prefer the latter.

The director’s name should have said it was a Russian movie. To those who are wondering why he posted it, it’s because of the R5 tag. It means early, usually stripped DVD version to be purchased in Russia. Often from the States.

Also, give Martin some space. Stop attacking them for not knowing every little time.

For those of you who didn’t know the director, I must say Aleksandr Sokurov is probably the best European director at present time. And I’m very glad to find here his last movie… so thank you Martin: don’t listen to those comments criticizing you post.

reading the comments above, my belief in the average person does indeed falter. english audio?? to my best knowledge english speaking countries do not (exception being animated films) dub films. but then again perhaps non-english speaking countries, or to play it safe, countries where english is not the native language, will dub this film into english.

still my guess is that we will never see this movie with english audio. thx martin for the tip, nice to see some non-us movie for a change. i will unfortunately have to wait for subtitles.

ps. russian is supposed to be one of the most difficult languages in the world, can anyone confirm?

  35. Kukh
    December 20th, 2007 | 02:51

Sokurov is a really great film director, but I can also understand users that complain about lack of English.
Indeed, maybe a separate category for Russian R5s would do. Although, I understand Russian, there is a problem when I want to watch movie together with people that do not.

I always try to watch movies in original language, but for most of the public, as it seems, English subtitles are a must. As it would be the case when I want to watch movies in German, French, etc.

Thanx, Martin, it’s good to know that this rls exists, since this definitely is one great movie. Subtitles (and in different languages) will appear, eventually. The only missunderstanding is thar the rls is, as a matter of fact, DVDRip, not an R5 in a sense most people are used to (that is, a rip of a non-russian movie dubbed in russian, after which a line audio is added).

this is funny reading through allthe whinging and whining !

ok, the group could have added a russian tag to it, but they are a russian group, it’s a russian R5 rip, and too-boot it’s a russian film, filmed in russian ! … bit of a no brainer, check the nfo’s ALWAYS, as previously said.

but what i find really funny, is that your all whining about it being posted ?…why not, do you not think we have russian visitors to this site, and the poster made it perfectly clear from the start that the only audio in this copy is russian !!

martin, i for one think u did the right thing in posting it even though it didn’t include english subtitles. subtitles will come from somewhere else in no time.

it is all about comparative advantage. dpk is comparatively (is this even a word?) disadvantaged when it comes to making subtitles therefore they r letting someone with comparative advantage in translating russian to any other language take care of that. read your ricardo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Ricardo

@Martin : Very good post, and THANK YOU for it.
It is regrettable that it lacks subs in a language I speak though, anyhow, that is not your fault, not even the DPK’s who probably would have ripped the subs, were they any on the DVD. Still knowing that there is a new Sokurov’s movie out is good, and i don’t doubt a second subs will surface sooner or later.

@the whiners : does complaining gets you anywhere ? Will your complaining enhance your day ? Could you remember once in your lamers lives that :
    - people here post on THEIR time, which they choose to gracefully spend in HELPING YOU decide if you want this or that release
    - If you don’t want a film, you just do not download it.
    - All of it is FREE, made by guys who are willing to share their expertise and their time in order to give YOU something to fill your empty lives with.
    - If you don’t like foreign movies, foreign languages, whatever is a bit different, very well, no problem, keep your xenophobia to yourselves and let normal people broaden their horizons and enjoy a taste of something else than the crappy VOMiT horror STV and sempiternal thrillers with not a hint of originality in their scripts.

Finally, just to give you a good reason to lash out your bitter insults : I’m French :D

Most people from enligsh speaking countries speaks only english. Most people from countries where they dub movies, speaks only their native language. Most people in countries where they show movies with the original language and use subtitles, speaks english and often a third language. And they have an understanding for languages that makes it easier for them to learn more. Conclusion: dubbing movies must be BANNED by the UN. (except movies for small children :p)

To answer blimps question of russian. Yes, it is a hard language. The grammar is more complex, even than german. And russian is considered to have more words to describe than most other languages. I have personally given up myself althought my sister and girlfriend speaks it. So I would wait for the subtitles if I were you.
If you still want to learn, then you should go there and take an intensive class! A great country but will not recommend going there in the winter. You´ll freeze your balls off :P

This is a wonderful movie. Was able to get the english srt but but had to wait awhile to get it before I could even watch this movie.

To those crapping complaining about why this movie is posted, this is a forum that is available to everyone in the world. Purist would prefer to see a movie intact as original WITHOUT the awful english dubbing. There are scores of websites that post srt and sub files. You just need to search and be patient.

To #37, you sir are an A*S! You think you are so big to start making threats at other people here? Grow up and get a life!
