My God! The next American Revolutionary War, right here on rlslog.net!

@ essequemodeia: you, sir, are a true patriot. You should write for the Colbert Show. You should run for office.

@ essequemodeia

Now as an aussie I have to take a stand here & say that yes - 99.99% of australian drama, comedy (hell anything on screen) is on par with a root canal in terms of entertainment value.

Calling us the real villains is fair cop - I'm surprised all trade agreements with Australia weren't suspended after exporting the cringe factor of Hugh Jackman to the world. But hey we did give you Steve Irwin, such a comedic genius that he didn't even realise it himself.

But seriously, American vs British comedy is a fragmented argument that you could take in 100 directions and cite a multitude of examples both for & against. Surely its a matter of taste and there is good and bad out of both camps. Thank that we have the luxury to chose the best from both.

Have some pity for us poor sods down under who must rely on the magic of Btorrent and draconian internet plans (20Gb / mths for an arm & 3 toes) to get any decent programming at all.

3 cheers for those who rip these shows & save us from reruns of neighbours, skippy & flipper on the holidays ... (magnum PI is a real treat)

Over the weekend I helped some American tourists here in London as they were lost and needed some directions to their hotel. Anyway I talked to them for awhile and they did mention to me that they did find the prices in the UK exceptionally high given the current exchange rate. (This is genuine and I think more people should be helpful to others)

Anyway you got me thinking about your comment

'it’s a shame one can’t heat one’s home with critical acclaim'

Your right, maybe we should be using US dollars in our fires as they are not worth a lot....... hehe

Some exceptional people in civilisation were poor and died poor, this however does not distract from the fact that they are remembered and honoured today.

Then it's a shame one can't heat one's home with critical acclaim.

The differences between American and British cultures aren't as dramatic as one might think... we all know the real villains are Australians.

'But since America is the eventual goal of any successful British enterprise'

Yes, we go to America just like everyone else - 'To take all your hard earned dollars' :)

Success can be viewed in many ways, critical acclaim and from your target audience can be found closer to home.

What, you don't like Limp Bizkit? Because every single person in America does. We just can't get enough of them. Yep, best thing since sliced bread. We're all getting together to sew pictures of Fred Durst onto all existing American flags.

Someone go slap Keith Richards and ask him who taught him those cool blues licks. I like the Stone Roses so much it'll be just great watching them slap together a reunion tour when the creditors soon come calling. Led Zep's great. I uhhh... yeah, they're great.

Funny thing is I like British comedy. Coupling is the best relationship comedy in existence. Fawlty Towers is absolutely brilliant.

But since America is the eventual goal of any successful British enterprise, just ask old Ricky Gervais where he's developing most of his forthcoming body of work.

@ essequemodeia

I'm a Brit and did not understand the term ' yam-yams ' in the context of your statement.

A 'yam-yams' is usually a non-English speaking person who does not speak English ie American.

Alternatively it's a term to describe those from Bristol and the surrounding area.

Your an American :)
