Gotta start wondering about nero…seems to be swiftly becoming bloatware. Why cant they make a decent burning suite and then leave it alone?

nero is excellent for burning AUDIO CDs, actually I didnt find anything suitable for that kind of job:

    1. prepare compilation from mp3 files
    2. define various pauses between tracks
    3. define crossfading effects between them
    4. normalize
    5. split and index long mp3 files

I tried ashampoo audio studio 3, but it is just silly and extremely hard to manage. for burning i use ashampoo burning studio and its just simple and wonderfull.
anybody knows about good alternative software for above described features? (yeah, and something little and focused…not all-in-good-for-nothing-take-your-cpu-power stuff)
    thankx

    Unnecessary add-on to Nero – SecurDisc ???

What types of files can be protected using the SecurDisc Copy Protection feature?

Currently, only PDFs can be protected using the SecurDisc Copy Protection feature. In order for you, or anyone else, to view a copy protected PDF, you require a special application called SecurDisc Viewer. SecurDisc Viewer can be downloaded free of charge at http://www.securdisc.net. PDFs that are copy protected using SecurDisc can only be read from the original DVD that was created. That means, if a SecurDisc copy protected PDF is copied to another media, it will no longer be readable, even with SecurDisc Viewer installed. In order to read a copy protected SecurDisc, a SecurDisc compatible drive is required.

Why does recording time take longer with SecurDisc than with other optical drives?

On average, SecurDisc recording time is longer than with a non SecurDisc optical drive. This is because SecurDisc always fills the CD or DVD completely, regardless of the size of data that you are copying. The additional information stored on the CD or DVD consists of redundancy and check-sum data, included in order to increase the chances of retrieving information in case your disc gets damaged. Also, some additional time is required to prepare SecurDisc files on the hard drive.

    SecurDisc FAQ:

    http://www.securdisc.net/eng/faq.html

    Who developed SecurDisc?

SecurDisc was jointly developed by Nero and HLDS (Hitachi-LG-Data-Storage), and LG drives will be the first on the market to offer this solution.

    What makes SecurDisc unique?

SecurDisc is the only solution to protect data on optical storage media against unauthorized access and copying, while also ensuring that it is stored securely and redundantly. It uses mandatory storage level security features such as checksums to verify data integrity and readability, and redundancy storage and defect data management systems to ensure maximum data reliability. SecurDisc also provides user level security that can be enabled or disabled by the user, including robust encryption via double protection of user data (ie., through password protection and digital signature authentication.)

Can SecurDisc restrict unauthorized access to files or folders on media?

Yes. SecurDisc’s password protection feature uses data encryption (AES-128) to restrict access to confidential files and folders.

    Who currently provides SecurDisc drives?

HLDS/LG is the first to provide optical disc drives to the market. More providers can be expected later in 2007.

What if I don’t have a SecurDisc drive, can I still read a SecurDisc?

Yes. To read a SecurDisc in a non SecurDisc drive, you will need InCD Reader 5.5. Once you enter the disc into your drive, SecurDisc will automatically determine whether you require InCD Reader. If you do, a message will appear notifying you to download a free copy, and will also provide you with a link to where you can download it. In order to read a copy protected SecurDisc, a SecurDisc compatible drive is required.

From Nero’s Homepage you can only recover to a certain degree from a damaged disc with the ‘SecurDisc’ feature enabled ( check the small print )

SecurDisc – Discover a new dimension in data protection

Nero consistently works to improve the products, applications, and technologies that make living the digital life easy and fun. With SecurDisc technology, Nero achieved a break-through in data protection. Integrated in Nero 8, SecurDisc gives you increased protection for your files, folders, and entire systems. Rest easy with SecurDisc and know your sensitive data and treasured memories are safe. To learn more about SecurDisc, please visit http://www.securdisc.net.

    Nero 8

With SecurDisc technology integrated in Nero 8, you can store data more securely on CD or DVD. Provide discs with password protection against unauthorized access. With SecurDisc you can share and distribute discs and be sure that the contents of the discs remain unchanged. The digital signature feature protects against content manipulation. Ensure increased readability and recovery of data in the event of a damaged disc. The SecurDisc early warning system lets you know if a disc is in danger of decaying, so you have time to back up the data to another disc. Use the copy protection feature to prevent unwanted duplication of PDF documents. Nero 8 gives you the best data security application with integrated SecurDisc technology.

Yes nero is big but i love it. And “nero cd-dvd speed” is really good for testing out your dvd’s and to see how many errors you get at what speed. It basically told me to only use verbatim dvd’s for my burner.

imgburn, it’s free and only 1.5MB.
the new version it’s able to do burn and make

For those that are fed up with Nero’s size, but still like to use it, try Nero Lite and Nero Micro.. It is a compilation of Nero minus all the bloat, you will still need your Nero activation keys of course.. :)

  37. MelC
    March 13th, 2008 | 13:37

nero has always been crap, but when it went from v5 to v6 is when it started getting superbloaty.

Back then cdrwin (the best recording s/w available at the time) was less than 1mb whilst nero was 12 or 16mb. massively inflated.

Now we have nero v8 which is nearly a gig, compared to any number of other apps which are far smaller.

Nero – Jack of all trades, Good at (master of) none.

I don’t know what to say, but until now, all the other EMBRACE keygens didn’t help. Even if the product looked like it was registered, after a while you would get an expiration message from Nero. Of course, you could do it again (delete the registration key, generate a new one, add it to the program) but the problem would re-appear.
I don’t know what to say, but I think that with Nero 8 the protection goes beyond using the keygen (and yes, I have also deleted NeroPatentActivation.exe file). It might be related to a background internet check if the key is really a valid one and rejecting them in the program.

I’m back to Nero 7 now, if anyone could confirm that this will work, I will go for it.

  44. IC
    March 13th, 2008 | 14:28

All of these Nero 8’s don’t work for long before telling you the serial detected is pirated..

The only thing going for nero right for me is Vision. It’s the easiest way to turn my video files into dvds without having to worry about how they’re encoded. If there is something else that works just as well, I’d be happy to get rid of nero forever.

Nerovision was giving me the 3rd party patent activation notice at first, but it’s working for me right now. I installed the trial from nero’s site, used the keygen for the serial then renamed the patentactivation file to .old, and disabled automatic updates. We’ll see how long it lasts…

  62. Linear
    March 13th, 2008 | 16:02

    @53

Works perfectly, all you have to do is use the SCROLL BOX on the keygen to scroll down to the ”Patent Activation” and enter it as a Key in Nero, no more ”Patent Activation” dialog boxes, no more expiration, nothing, all in all works as flawlessly as all other versions should have.

    @54 noone

I hear you, if I’m going to have one Nero app installed it will be vision, or at least until I find something else, preferably free.

I bought Nero 7 last year and all it’s done is give me problems, mainly with rom burning. I’m down to the point now where I’d rather have a lot of different freeware appointed to individual jobs than have one suite that does nothing but hiccup. And to everyone that says Nero 6 was the best, I agree, even when Nero 6 crapped out on me, it was usually an easy, pain free fix.

The keygen works. It generates valid keys.
From that point of view, all the previous EMBRACE keygens for Nero 8 worked.

The problem is that after a while Nero says that the key is no good. For me it took at most 3 days (for the previous release). We’ll have to wait for a while to see how good this new keygen really works.

  67. Cheng
    March 13th, 2008 | 17:01

No thanks, I’ll pass on this

Nero has turned into a huge bloatware program with bells and whistles I’ll never use. Why do all the makers of great and successful programs turn those successes into bloated piles of crap?

    I think I’ll stick with Nero 6.6

Nero is a good bundle of products for the money they ask for, perfectly suited for the average user which needs work done with minimal fuss. For the geeks out there, ofcourse there are better and most important FREE solutions for everything Nero provides but dont blame Ahead for providing a full media software bundle which you didn’t even payed for. Run to freeware programs and get the job well done. As previous reviewers commented, for all those Nero lovers which need only the burn engine, you cant afford to miss Nero Lite & Micro edition from http://updatepack.nl/

As for Securdisc technology,it works ok,the data recovery is generated by on the fly burning but unfortunately needs InCD reader for reading and recovering a damaged cd/dvd,it has a high degree of success but still you need a good drive which excels at bad disks to get good readings, but its a start till the OEM’s implement the recovery mechanism in the drives firmware, the cd/dvd password protection works, the digital signature works. all around a good solution i recommend.

I can’t believe people are still wasting time on nero. I see so many here finally giving up on this bloatware.

And a “lite” version. I’ve tried it, but if the original now sucks, ditch the program completely. There are many sleek and better alternatives. Even freeware(gasp!) ones.

To those who use Nero’s other programs such as Nero Vision to edit videos and burn them to dvd, you’re likely to still have Patent Activation Problems.

I’ve tried it even with the OnlineServices & NeroPatentActivation.exe fixes to no avail.

Even if it initally works on a fresh system, you find after the 7-14 days it will expire. I found that reinstalling/cleaning and setting the date back to then will work!

I doesn’t matter as much to people who just use the plain Nero Burning Component – but if you use its other comonents like Vision you’re screwed!

This has to be one of the poorest cracked programs available. If you do a search on this issue, you’ll find Nero 8 has yet to be *fully* cracked.

  82. Cat

Im still using nero 7 and Ashampoo burning studio 7. Ashampoo BS7 has nice features. Nero 8 seems a lot more complicated to keep cracked and too much of a hassle. Thanks for sharing this torrent and info anyway.

Everything seems to work using the new keygen except for Nero Recode. Only 3 out of 5 options work. The “Burn a DVD to DVD” and “Compile a DVD” options gives me a 3rd party patent activation dialog. The other 3 options however, work just fine.

    @90 Cromwell

Yeah, I did all that, and everything works except for those two options in Recode, which, unfortunately are the ones I use the most.

Nevermind my previous posts. I uninstalled everything and then did a really, REALLY clean install using “Typical” settings. Then applied the new keys and everything went off without a hitch. All options in Recode now work flawlessly. And for extra measure, I blocked Nero from calling home using a custom rule within Windows’ Local Security Settings.

I’m still using Nero 6, mainly because the later versions dropped support for Win98. I didn’t install everything though, mainly just the burning program, which I like better than the others I’ve tried.

That said, I’ve found a lot of things in Nero that could be better. For example, if you use the option to burn a video file directly to a VCD and there’s an error, you have to start the whole conversion over again. Same with a HD backup, one error and the whole operation is screwed. Why can’t Nero do a cold verify of a disc rather than just at the end of a burning operation? Why does Nero Vision Express (V6) work on small AVI files, but choke every time I open a 700MB movie?

After you install Nero 8 go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero\Shared\NL3 and either delete or rename Nero Patent activation. “Common Files” might be a hidden Windows folder, I’m not sure. Since doing that I haven’t had a problem with those annoying pop-ups showing themselves.

    @89 cyp.
I have Vision as a stand alone. Im not sure if it was a custom download or if I simply unchecked the options that I wouldn’t use anyway. It is possible however and is fairly small. for everyone who complains about the size of Nero simply uncheck the options you won’t use at the installation stage. ;)

Tried installing this exactly as per intructions, no joy, just keep getting ‘third party patent activation’ every time I try to burn a dvd from divx format, anyone had any success with this crap?

For all those having trouble with activation for Nero Vision and Showtime and want to use Nero 8 instead of 7. You must find the Retail Nero 8.0.3. install. I have created a folder with the install files that can be installed directly from the desktop if anyone would like I can post on rapidshare. But to the point follow these instruction:

Install Nero 8 Ultra Edition 8.0.3.
Use a serial at beginning of install.
Custom install and select which programs you want.
Or maybe you just want all of them.
Once installed run Nero Startsmart. Go to Nero Control Center.
You will be asked to check for updates. NO.
Then uncheck the box that will check for updates every 30 days.
    You do NOT want updates.
    Run Nero Vision.
    Make a DVD.
When you get to the screen to add video files wait like 10 secs.
You will be asked to download patent activation.
    Select CANCEL.
    Close Nero entirely.
    Go to:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero\Shared\NL3
Delete the 2 .exe files NeroPatentActivation and NeroUpgrade. There right next to eachother.
Restart and you should be fine. Permanently.
You just have to stick with Nero 8.0.3 until someone creates a patch for the later editions that actually work.

Oh yeah, did the rename of the ‘Nero Patent activation’ thing too as I have tried about 3 versions of this now to absolutely no avail, suggestions anyone?

Follow my instructions. They work. Only for Nero 8.0.3. As after this release Nero found new ways to incorporate security checks. And you dont rename the file. You delete it entirely. Only after you have run Nero Vision once and CANCEL the Patent Check.

Cheers ecsjr, am dloading 8.0.3.0 now, and will give it a shot and follow your instructions to the letter! I hope it works as I have tried previous versions of 8 and they work for max of a month roughly, then the activation thing rears it’s ugly head again. Bit pee’d off though as I uninstalled Nero 7 (which, incidentally was working fine) to install this rlslog version, as I always trust their posts, same as their 8.2.8 version, and guess what? Only worked for a few weeks, but at least 8.2.8 worked! 8.3.2.1. is not having it at all! Will let you all know how I get on, including you rlslog.

Once you have followed all instructions… Post a reply to let others know it works. Give me credibility you know. So then others will follow the same. RLSLOG is usually great about informing us what works and doesnt. So I figure Id help some fellow Nero users out who are having trouble with the “Nero 8″ edition.

Hey guys, what’s wrong with you?I did download this nero 8.3.2.1 and added serials for patent activation and securdisk and I don’t get any patent activation errors!!
Just install the copy(you can even download the setup from nero’s site) and then generate serials for patent activation and securdisk using the keygen from EMBRACE and add the serials in the licence tab(just go the update section and you’ll find the licence tab on the left). Also make sure that you’re not connected to internet whenever you wanna use nero!
