    @13 : You must be trolling :P obviously people can make closed, for-pay apps for any system. There are definitely Nero-style programs that do most (some, like myself, would say “all the useful”) things that Nero does, K3B being a main one, I love that program. That said, cool to see this here, I’ll probably give it a try. Certainly it’d be tremendously useful for anyone with a Blue-Ray or HD-DVD burner.

    For the person who hadn’t heard about Ubuntu: It’s the better alternative to Vista if you’re looking to upgrade your operating system from XP ;)

    March 26th, 2008 | 15:56

    I agree, K3B is the best burning application for a Linux environment and yes it’s 100% FREE

    March 26th, 2008 | 16:01

    Yeah … why use nerolinux when k3b is available, more stable and much better ;)

  19. Fran
    March 26th, 2008 | 16:01

    I think this is unnecessary. I mean, there are free alternatives like k3b (it is excellent).
    I’m disagree with the idea of paid software on linux, but Nero is Nero and i know the migration process isn’t easy. At first we going to miss our Windows software, but gradually we will accustom to the Linux alternatives.

    @17, 18, 19:

    k3b -> qt
    nerolinux -> gtk

    fits in better in gnome

    Try burning over 4GB file in K3b or Brasero - you can’t. Something is broken in UDF support and Nero seems to be the only one that can do that. Quite important when dealing with HD-rips.

    March 26th, 2008 | 16:26

    ubuntu is “a better alternative to vista”?? If by better you mean: nothing works right away, you have to open a terminal and type stuff just to install simple apps, and you have to manually configure 50% of your hardware than yes, ubuntu is better. Webcam with vista = plug it in, it works, finds all drivers automatically, and don’t even have to insert the CD that came with it. Webcam in ubuntu = hours of searching forums and finally getting it to barely work, but only half the options and features are available. LOL thanks for the laugh.

    personally i salute anyone that uses linux as i tryed ‘yellowdog linux’ Twice and realised that it was going to take much more paitence than i had to get working properly…(i really wanted to get it working as you can run PS3 games on it)

    Heres a weird fact: Linux is the number 1 OS in africa, where you can get linux dvd from most shops for free.

    if you have the time then find a linux distro that suits you (and whatever machine you have) and give it a go, as its much more stable and a hell of a lot more powerful than windoze ;)

    I’m burning 4.7 GB DVD all the time with K3b and it works just fine… Perfect, i would say. Probably you have something wrong on your computer.

    Yeah! is not everyday you see paying app in linux, but hey! is thing is good that some Windows app been made for linux. Like it was nice to see the release of SKYPE 2.0 a month back.

    But at the same time who would be the f£%$^$ing idiot that will pay for it, having great application like K3b and Brasero.

    I agree with another (post 34):
    Good to see Linux represented as well, here at Rlslog :D
    The Rlslog motto should be something like ‘Hot info about new scene releases! We don’t discriminate’ :P
    And as for poster nr.1: Anything that used to work in 5.10 should work fine in any newer version, including the latest 7.10 (a.k.a. Gutsy).

    Nero is the only way to use UDF and thats very important.

    4GB and more per file
    Unicode
    No limitations in Filenamelength oder Folderdepth
    Multiplatform…

    thx for this release, is there a x86-64-Version around?

  37. SFNR1
    March 27th, 2008 | 08:29

    @36 it’s meant everything FROM Fedora4 AND ABOVE… The Windowsrequirements sound quite similar (Windows 95/98/…) and no one says “He, Windows 95 *lol* i’m using Vista…” ;)

  38. Homer
    March 27th, 2008 | 13:16

    Yes there are 32 and 64 bit packages (DEB and RPM):

    Pirating NeroLinux seems absolutely pointless considering the good amount of opensource apps written for this job in Linux space, Windows shareware developers need encouragement from the opensource crowd to start developing on Linux, this is very important and strategic for a succesfull emergence of Linux on global desktops.

    I agree with you grimpr (#41) in that there’s no need to hack windows based products when we have our own - I’m just happily burning a dvd with k3b whilst writing this message - if I were in windows I would be out in the kitchen making a cup of tea whilst burning a dvd via Nero and hoping it worked. Nero seems to take up all of my cpu and if I try to do anything else it screws up and costs me a blank dvd, a reboot and a lot of wasted time. K3b seems immensely user friendly and in my experience more than adequate.

    March 28th, 2008 | 13:28

    Yes, why use the existing free apps that work fine, when we can have nero junk?

    Because it sucks not having to find truly working serials for it every time there’s an update?
    Because it sucks not having the nero scout crap?
    Because we’re missing out on NMIndexingService.exe & NMIndexStoreSvr.exe bloat and the like?

    Yes. Life on linux sucks without all that nero sh!t.

    @23/Johny Rebel, nice troll!

    Nothing works right away? Most stuff does, whereas with windows, you need to locate and download drivers for pretty much every device.

    “you have to open a terminal and type stuff just to install simple apps”. Yes, not like you can just click on applications, then “add/remove”, that would be too easy. Or any of the dozen or so front ends that let you search for an install any app in 2 clicks, like synaptic, adept, yum, yast, etc. Whereas with windows, you have to look for the app/iso on shady sites (risk it being infected, no signatures or anything), then serials/crk/kgn for it, then block it with a firewall, add entries to hosts file, disable the startup entries/services/systrays and all that they add. Hours of fun.

    “you have to manually configure 50% of your hardware”. I dunno, but I never had to do that. Your linux sucks troll is way outdated. Try to find some updated FUD. It clearly shows you never even tried it…

    Linux is WAY better than Vista will ever be!

    The version EMBRACE given is just a tar file, and it can’t be started due to unable to find some library (libgtk…) in my ubuntu 7.10 x64, is it a bad rip?
