    I don't like this one, it seems to lag the whole system and is overkill for whats really needed if your not a noob.

    Kaspersky or Nod32 suites always have done me just fine.

    @ hermano

    Its overkill, it does stuff you don't even need. Most routers these days have a built in firewall, there's tools specifically designed to block anti-p2p via PeerGuardian and if you use Firefox and the NoScript plugin and don't click on things that are obviously trojans (click here to install a codec etc.) you'd be just fine.

    A better solution is run applications that are new to you in a sandbox (Sandboxie) or a VM (VirtualBox).

    You simply don't need an application reading every packet, delaying data flow and clogging up the system. Right now I don't even have an anti-virus or anything installed because its not required. I don't download just anything, I visit regular websites and anything I want to install I can scan online via VirusTotal or a similar website. And if that isnt enough I can manually scan my system once every week or two with Malwarebytes.

    Me frightened? far from it.

    Informative as your post at 23 is (and yes, I do use Sandboxie, and Malwarebytes), there are a number of issues which I cannot be bothered going into (PeerGuardian indeed).
    Just to point out the contradictory nature of your posts at 20 and 23…So Kasp and nod always do you fine, but you don't even have an anti virus?????

    Anyone know how long the licence is for on this?

    Yes they do me fine from the machines I have put them on, family or friends PC's.

    I once tested this software (Outpost) on a pretty high quality machine and I could really notice the slowdown it caused right away, it simply failed to impress right off the line. Sure it may protect you well but if your not an average PC user you really don't need that type of protection, and with it scanning pretty much every data packet I also think allot about privacy and if anything ever gets sent to Outpost for say debugging reasons.

    At least your not trying to convince me anything Norton is good, because i REALLY hate their software. The amount of times I have had to fix peoples PC's with Norton crap on, gah!

    That shouldn't be "if your not an average PC user" but "if your not a basic PC user".

    If your going to be letting family or friends use your PC then thats the only time I personally would either activate an AV or shove them into a virtual machine.

    @Daz,
    Could not agree with you more, horses for courses.If shared pc then very different security needs, and i think that a decent suite makes sense.(esp. with youngsters around).
    I have tried quite a few and this seems as good as any, especially with long licence, updates without a hitch etc.
    Eset suite very good but updates a pain, even with one of the proggys that do it 'automatically'.
