Does these programs actually work? How can they make my computer faster and how much faster?
Useless programs.Never used one and guess what.My pc is not slow.The only software that can improve a little(sometimes not even noticeble only by benchmark) the performance of a pc with ntfs file system is a defrag tool with “smart file placement” capability.Perfect disk,JkDefrag (the best freeware tool IMO),or disk trix ultimate defrag.

this made my computer 5.74 times faster when i ran tests and my internet is also 2.33 times faster. great program and even on my older pc i saw an increase of 3.98x in processor speed calculated using multiple testing softwares. I would reccomend paying for this software if you like it, I used it for a week then bought a copy to support the developers.
@4… I use TuneUp Utilities and they work great. Some settings such as tcp/ip settings need to be tweaked for optimum performance and you WILL notice a significant performance increase in a lot of areas if you use the right tools.
Can anyone who has tried this PC Tweaker 2008 thing comment on its efficiency?

Avoid such programs. They often cause more problems than they fix (especially when they mess up with registry)
There’s no magic program to improve CPU speed or add more RAM by modifying Windows settings.
The best way to improve pc speed is to upgrage your hardware.
First of all, there are a gazillion of these progs around, they all do the same thing and they do help those who don’t know how to manage or optimize a system, but for the most part, if you manage your system properly you don’t need it.
Win98 and 2K requried some real TCP/IP tweaks, WinXP still lacks a great deal when it comes to process management of multicore processors (they were new when XP was engineered) but Vista has better disk management, FAR better processor management than XP(it actually does rearrange active processes to make the core use them more efficiently).
For the most part, crap, for the unknowing or older OS users, it can help in certain areas.

This program can be used to repair known errors the program knows. But otherwise, you won’t see too much optimization, just get yourself a upgraded computer.

ok mailbox…when i clicked the installer…it dissapeared…obviously a virus, thank you for that
such utilities can help… I know tuneup utilities (no i dont work for them) offers a simple interface to optimize certain settings such as visualizations, a registry cleaner which works OK, and some other tools which are nice as well. you won’t notice drastic speed improvements but if like me you don’t have time to tweak the settings individually programs like this are great to keep your system somewhat clean and running somewhat smoothly. that said i looked at this software and its junk.
If you must use crappy tools of this nature, use CCleaner.
Thank God for the FireFox NoScript addon, now I can enjoy RLSLOG again. To anyone frustrated by uknowwhat, try AdBlock and NoScript, combined they make for the most pleasant browsing experience ~sans interuptions.
