Adobe launches Media Player 1.0
Adobe has launched Adobe Media Player (download), its attempt to break into the crowded media player market. Rather than take on iTunes or Windows Media Player directly with local management features, Adobe’s software – based on its Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) software – allows users to subscribe to various web channels and stream free content.

To that end Adobe has signed deals with content providers including MTV and Universal. Adobe claims that Media Player will let users watch their own content stored on their desktops, like QuickTime or Windows Media Player. However, Adobe Media Player is quite limited in the types of media it can actually play—downloaded FLV files (encoded with Spark or VP6) or MPEG-4 (encoded with H.264), and that’s it. The first version is restricted to Flash support, though the company hasn’t ruled out broadening that in the future.

but wait! this one streams content right to your computer!!!!
oh wait, thats been done…..
I remember when ‘Adobe’ and ‘innovative’ could be used in the same sentence ….. Ah well
Its a piece of crap!
there’s ‘new’ in the word ‘news’. this post au contraire would be called ‘olds’ AGAIN. martin you have ping of > 86400000ms?
macusersintheface: go fly a kite you tosser. i can ban you right now if you don’t like it here…
I just wanted to get this, and then i saw the picture of that thief Mencia……Well i just decided to skip this.
media player classic, it comes recommended by god himself
is there linux version ?
martin……carm down dear
they are not worth it
foobar2000 for audio, Media Player Classic for video. Couldn’t be happier.
Well, I think we do need another media player, just not this one.
One that has built in codecs and streaming like vlc.
One that has great visualizations for music like WMP.
One that has the speed and full screen video controls like MPC.
One that has the flexibility and direct audio hardware access like WINAMP.
One that supports conversions to other formats, rips dvds, cds, bluray.
You know something like that, the media player market is not perfect – plenty of room for improvement.
MPC FTW!
have you guys tried GOM player…? it’s awesome!
looks like a bloated memory hog, yipee!!!!!!
adobe air?
This is interesting because of the content on there… but the player itself is not something you’d use for local content. Looks like a lot of people here read “media player” and think it’s only for your own videos.
This is actually not that bad… though it really should be online on a site instead of only as an AIR application. I doubt that many people will actually use the download podcasts/play local content feature of this.
have any of you ever tried Cowon Jet Audio? I like it a lot, and dont use anything else (except vlc sometimes), you can get it from any of the FOSI websites http://kickme.to/FOSI
try it, i bet you’ll like it
haha this sucks, vlc ftw
They lost all innovation when Macromedia bought up Allaire and then Adobe bought up Macromedia. No competition = no innovation.
@20 you are an expert!
JetAudio is a FREE prog. which you can be download fm the site of Cowon (manufacturer of iAudio players) and it is:
A. yes a player
B. ment to convert audio and video for the iAudio/Cowon players.
Sleep well my friend (and don’t wake up)
This just sounds kinda sad really.. It might be good, but somehow I have a feeling that the guys who were assigned to program/develop/whatever this player weren’t cheering like “Woo, were gonna do something new and innovative and FUN!” “Could have been working at Ubisoft, developing Assassin’s Creed or something instead”
yeah that definitely doesnt sound like, oh I dont know, Songbird, which has been around for a bit?
http://www.songbirdnest.com/
For the original.
mencia sux monkey balls
Finally an adobe app that you don’t need an activation crack for……
to bad it doesn’t do anything useful that I do not already have (sigh)
Quit being such a douche, Martin. You can’t ban anyone and you know it.
It’s bad enough you’re making money off the scene, so shut your mouth and lay low if you know what’s good for you…or we may just decide to have a little fun with you and your “website”.
Heh, the only people capable of hacking into high end websites would be those lame anti-establishment as$holes that attack government websites…Stop making yourself sound important…
Back on topic, why cant any of the big corporations bring out a media player to compete with VLC? We all know how bloody buggy the program is, but thats just because it is open source. Just imagine what a media player with VLC like capabilities could do for a corporation, and at the same time I could get a heavily budgeted VLC clone with fewer bugs! Its win freakin win! Best part is, if something like that did happen and they screwed it up, I could just go back to VLC…
winamp ftw!
@28, 420
grow up, tosser
well i use lot of adobe programs so it might be useful to use this one too. But for now i will use Bsplayer
