SDbot isn’t that the old trojan where you could VNC into the hosts machine and run type stuff, run matrix screen savers and other big lols? It started with an S.. I first read and downloaded it from astalavista.box.sk (one of their sites)

It’s packed by PECompact, a packer.
Some AV’s are to stupid and recognize it as virus, because some virus were already packed with it.

There’s no way I’d run a file if it had any suspicious results from virus scans. It’s just not worth it. Best thing to do is just Google for a plain text serial number for the program so you dont have to run the keygen.

If you want a no frills VERY FAST imaging prog check out Macrium Reflect - they have a FREE version - if you like it buy it for the extras(scheduling etc)…default compression seems better than acronis and only runs one service to mount images - OS partition recovery from linux boot cd ( included in prog)- simple to use and does my 80GB C drive in about 40 min - Acronis was 1.5 hrs and 3 services running all the time…recommended…

    From the nfo:
Run CORE10k.EXE to verify this release, if CRC-check fails or even CORE10k.EXE is missing - you are probably using websh!t!

CORE10k.EXE is missing. This RLS has been tampered with before it was uploaded to the jockey stuff. With CORE’s exe we could at least see if the files are in the condition CORE released them.
Now it’s everbodys best guess if it’s a PEcompacted keygen or a keygen + trojan compacked with PEComp…
    Anyways, Sandboxie ftw!

This is still kinda buggy imo. I’ve not had much luck with True Image v11.x and i’m not the only person who has had issues with it.

v10.0.4942 works perfectly for me though so if anyone has problems with any builds from v11, they should try v10.

It’s an amazing program though and well worth ‘investing’ in :)

@18. I like the sound of Macrium Reflect, but it looks like it’s just a free trial. But even if I could get one full backup it would be worth it. Do you know if that is possible with this prog., or is a mock up thing?

After unpacking the keygen and scanning the unpacked exe using virustotal (http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/c9b6bed8dca7bd1e92479b7ab603fd99) it’s false positives due to the exe packer CORE used.

I didn’t have the time checking this but usually when nod32&kaspersky report clean,so it is.I have to admit there are a lot of warnings,my 2 cents says that is clean even if i don’t remember a keygen from core with so many warnings.Anyway i like Paragon more :-P.Like others said use sandboxie just to be certain.

@25 Mishka - no the free version is free and works fine - scroll down the page from the link above and you will see a comparison chart with the pay version - ie. no differential backups - only full backup each time with free etc…but nice and quick and solid - Acronis was always buggy for me and new versions have way to many services and try to do to many things - like sandboxing etc….

    WTF !

    1. I downloaded the RS-file from “keepers” (post #20).
    2. Unpack all files
    3. Copied them to my VMWare AV-Machine (Sunbelt-PFW, NOD32 3.0.667 + nevest updates, Altiris-SVS)
    4. Run the sh*t via Altiris-SVS in an virtual filesystem INSIDE a virtual machine.
    5. DISAPPOINTED !! NO VIRUS FOUND ! NO FIREWALL ACCESS ! NO REGISTRY-ACTION DETECTED :(

I hoped to cath a backdoor but was disappointed that it only hows a f** keygen-window ;)

Can somebody please explain me, how this keygen steal passwords ? I need a screenshot of a tool that DISPLAYS the activity, not a webpage telling me, that Core’s “keygen.exe” is bad. What kind of passwords should be stolen and which port will be used then ?

    keygen.exe’s checksums
    CRC32: f5027d51
    MD5: 279829ae83560628c0c9f58ac87541b6

Try this by yourself and use it at own risk. I COULD NOT DETECT ANY VIRAL ACTIVITY !
No fireall-access and no registry editing. Even NOD32 couldn’t detect it IN MEMORY. SDBot is a f** old backdoor (2005-2007!). If NOD32 has no luck detecting this 1-3 year old bastard… then I presume that there isn’t any backdoor. By the way… it’s a working Keygen. It’s NOT a backdoor that “pretend” to be a keygen ;)
There are two possibilities: someone wrote a fully working keygen, hid the backdoor-part inside the keygen and “released” it. Or it’s “only” a keygen and the AV-tools get fooled by the compressors/scramblers (UPX, PECompact, …)

Throw this release into a virtual machine and check it out yourself !!

    July 7th, 2008 | 13:43

Besides the keygen/trojan issues.. Let’s look at the app itself: since when a disk cloning app has become such a BLOATWARE installing hundreds of megs on your hdd?! Now really.. I used to like Acronis (and I’m not a Ghost fan), but still, let’s face it, Ghost 11 boot disk takes only about 2M or so and it still works fine for most machines.. I cannot understand why Acronis needs lately about 200M to install, especially for the “HOME” version of their app.. ?!

  52. Sharkey
    July 7th, 2008 | 13:44

Can someone post a couple of the serial numbers? That way we don’t have to worry about the keygen having trojan or not.

  53. omfg you're so dumb
    July 7th, 2008 | 14:03

@23 & ppl in that class:
It’s not about CORE adding viruses in their releases.
It’s about ppl downloading CORE’s release unzipping them, removing CORE’s crc check application, adding a trojan/virus to the keygen, repack the infected keygen, zip/rar all the stuff and upload it for other ppl to download.

Btw, like #26 The Guy says: the keygen ist clean. just download the unpcked exe he provides, don’t start it, just scan it with your favorite set of scanners and you will see for yourself.

I wonder how Acronis got so many 5 stars reviews, but to me it really too bloated (run at least 3 services & 2 drivers just to image the drive), slow imaging speed, still buggy + problem with their restore CD (read user forums).

    Try IFW from TeraByteUnlimited: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/index.htm

No Windows service installed. Low resource usage. Free tools to image outside Windows. Support all Windows OS incl. server OS + Linux. Create bootable restore CD/DVD directly (no need to buy ext. HDD).
