97% of today’s kids are video gamers
According to a new survey from the Pew Internet & American Life Project 97% of young people today play video games in one form or another–boys and girl alike. And when they play video games, they often play them with someone else, ether in person or online. Two-thirds play face-to-face, the survey found, while a quarter play online with other people. “It shows that gamers are social people,” says Amanda Lenhart, a senior researcher at Pew. “They communicate just as much. They spend time face-to-face, just as much as other kids. They e-mail and text.”
The kids these days game fairly often, too, with 50% of them saying they had played a video game the previous day. And even though many underage respondents said they had played or owned several M- and AO-rated games, the Pew researchers were quick to distance themselves from making any proclamations about video games and real world violence. Instead, Joseph Kahne, a study co-author and dean of the education school at Mills College in California, said games like Halo–while violent–provided “more than average opportunities for players to help one another.”

Kids need to learn that they are being distracted. Put the controller down, pick up a book. Learn something that is going to get you somewhere in life. Make accomplishments,have goals….
Also this is not kids, I know adults who don’t anything but game and talk about gaming.
pathetic - I pretty much gave up video games except for when I have time to kill like waiting at the dr office or airport or something like that
Well Reezy.. this is kids, kids will always be kids. Once they find something funny and attractive to do, they keep on doing it. Like you were doing video games w/e toys when you were young. Playing with an xbox/PC you can call a hobby, like you are going to a baseball practice w/e any another sport.Example, if you live far far away from the city.. Got nothing to do, well what do you do? well some kids play video games, or climb a tree w/e mountain..
They also play games to have fun with their buddies(mates), It’s fun and addictive.. but sometimes it’s too much, there’s a limit how much you can play per day. That’s where the parent needs to step up, notice if he/her is playing too long.

Having a hobby is pathetic now? Man I’d hate to be your kid
Pick up a book? Seriously, how will that get you anywhere in life? At least video games have been shown to develop hand-eye coordination.
Games these days are too easy, if I were to let my kid play video games I’d have him start on some hard classics like Pitfall or Boy and his Blob. Something that made the kid use his brain.
First game I played all the way through was the first Final Fantasy, I think I was 4 or 5 years old.
