even though Wall-e is gonna win, for the first time since Antz went up against A Bug's Life, Dreamworks, in my opinion, slapped Pixar's sentimental azz, hard. and thusly, deserves some credit.

the idea that the dark knight should win any awards is laughable-its a popcorn movie-albeit a good one.

if ledger wins anything it would purely be on sentiment and that isnt acceptable if awards are to have any credibility-surely nobody in their right mind thinks his portrayal of joker was a masterclass in acting ffs! it was fun and quirky but no way was it anything else.

I loved the film-watched it 4 times already but if ledger hadnt died nobody would ever have suggested an award-its just sentiment talking.

I bet my bottom dollar that they are going to pick Di Cap and Kate Winslet so they can write super long articles about er … Titanic. And when you read the list further with likes Anne Haddaway it is clear only women jury were selecting dem best "acts". SMH!

I will they will not give this bytch an oscar she does not deserve it .

Slumdog Millionaire is easily the best film I've seen this year, the Dark Knight is great but its totally over-hyped, the first hour of Slumdog Millionaire makes the Dark Knights attempt at "grit" look like something out of a chick flick.

Slumdog was alright, but not that good number 44

Nice to see Jonny Drama and Ari up for awards.

I think Cruise should win that oscar, but hedger has already won it.

This list certainly opens up a whole new world of things to d/l, so thanks

    @37 Chinballs
    Rocking man!!!
Just exactly what I had in mind….Except for a few choices…i beg to differ…like..
Heath Ledger and Kung Fu Panda…
    y?
Firstly nobody could have enacted the joker like Heath and am not talking out of sentiment or something (@ 40 Barky )….the entire body language was mastered to perfection by Heath and he wholly deserves an awrd…
And I don't go with Wall-E because if you look at it nore closely…there is no strong attachment between the viewer and the the characters as was seen in the previous outings of pixar (Ratatouille )…while Kung Fu Panda was thoroughly enjoyable to the core!!!!
    Cheers!!!
    No offense meant to anyone!!!

Yeah, sucks that Dark Knight isn't up for more awards. It won 5 in the People's Choice but you know.. that award show kinda sucked so i wouln't be too proud to win one of those. But an award is an award.

these awards dont mean much i think, it's judged by ppl who only rates movies based on how well it's made and how well the actors play their role. i see some movies that are nominated several times and they're either really stupid or movies no-one would even talk about. doubt, the reader, the wrestler, and Mamma Mia! ?!?!?!??!?! wth?! i guess im too young to appreciate those sort of films lol.

    What a yawn-inducing list…Same nominees every year…..

Revolutionary Road is a brilliant, daring movie. It might have lost some of its impact because the subject of life in the 'burbs has been tackled before, i.e. American Beauty; but if it was a waste of time for you I'd suggest you either grow a brain or go back to watching the newest comic book movie.

Burn After Reading wasn't funny. In Bruges was superb. What the hell is Pineapple Express doing on any list?

I can't make a final judgment until The Reader and Doubt leak… Hopefully very soon!

Is this list for real? No Dark Knight in best motion picture (drama)????

    Absolutely ridiculous.

Also, anyone saying that if Ledger hadn't died, there'd be no awards talk was obviously under a rock during the time BETWEEN filming and his death - there was a LOT of Oscar buzz before he died.

I really liked Batman Begins but when it comes to TDK I must say that it doesn't come close. It just didn't feel right, it was way too cheesy. Might have someting to do with the way American people think. I have talked to many of my german mates and they all agreed that the movie was boring and didn't touch them a lot.

don't let them mess around in your head too much…

I would say Gran Torino was robbed …awsome …Clint was his old self…a cross between Heart Break Ridge and Dirty Harry !!!

  65. @65
    January 12th, 2009 | 03:05

@65 I thought Clint was decent and the movie was good…but all the other actors in the movie really sucked. Tao (Toad) was good when he was playing a quiet shy guy…but as soon as he started talking, his inexperience as an actor was HORRIBLE to watch. And the sister was the same, only really annoying because of the personality she portrayed (which I think was partially her's since she was a bad actress)

I wish he had put real actors in those roles instead of going for authenticity with Hmong people playing the roles.
