Loved the 1st gen but I have to say no thanks to this version. Just seems over priced for the specs.

Gee pay for ANOTHER version of windows with LESS space, or get the LInux version, larger space and install your XP LITE??

The new CPU, and the new battery in the pipeline means a extra couple of months to wait.

#37, the difference here is the weight, and better battery power, I agree the price has gone up more than I like but they also said that it will probably drop another $50 after the first month or two.

Personally I am looking at this as the ultimate Ebook reader, since compared to all the other ones out there this can read ANY format, and the screen can be turned 90*

The fact that it has multiple USB ports means you can hook up GPS (or if you want make it internal) and it has plenty of room for expandability (touch screen, blue tooth etc.)

I have a "regular" laptop but there is no way I can take it on the bus/train and read or surf on my lap (to darn heavy)

It's a nice, small machine and I'd like to have one, but it is overpriced for what it is, essentially a stripped down, basic laptop. There's nothing revolutionary or costly about the machine's components so there's no reason it should cost as much as a much more advanced standard-sized laptop. Sure it has 16GB of flash memory, however the costs for that are no longer that expensive. As I said I'd be interested in having one of these, however it should probably sell for at least $150 less when the technology of it is compared to other portable devices that use more expensive components.

What a waste of money! You can buy a full sized and fully functional laptop with a REAL LCD screen for $499. People that buy these Asus Eee things are real idiots IMO.

the original eeepc was an interesting effort with a good price/value relation.
the new one is not interesting anymore as in this price segment there are already better products out yet.

My $599 HP 14" laptop is doing the job. I can't figure out the advantages of this unit over mine. I need all the USB ports and storage, etc. to be productive. Besides being light and cute, what would it do versus a traditional laptop? Dance?

Can't speak for the quality of the product, but due to its price a local public school system bought one for all of its kids. This is the way to go with public education -- laptops in the hands of the children. Sure, they look like crap, but it's a fine first step.
