For example, you can plug in iPod, select the video, go to bed, and when you wake up next morning, your iPod will be ready to play new YouTube videos.

When I visit a youtube page, I get an option to download using real player.

Not sure if this just my own PC configuration, or a recent addition to the functionality of youtube.

Bitcomet does the same work and better… you can download all .flv videos based sites… including p0rn sutff… =)

BC v1.00 is flawless for that job =P

… and have a flv converter plugin, you can convert flv to avi, mpg, wmv or mp4

Maybe Safari can download files without any additional add ons or programs, but at least with Firefox I know that I can acces Paypal and the other sites that are beginning to block Safari because it has very poor general security and poor anti-phishing security. And video download helper on Firefox takes about 2 seconds to install, works perfectly and works on almost any site you care to mention.

Also, the tip above about checking the browsers cache also works, it’s just a little less convenient.

You can also just pull the YouTube video out of the browser’s cache. For Firefox, go to the page and play the video. When the shaded/colored bar is all the way across, go to the cache and sort the files by date. The video will be at or near the top and larger than the rest of the files. Copy & rename to .FLV. Note that this works on virtually all sites that buffer the video to your system. If they have a bar that fills up, even when paused, the video will be the cache.

Also, lately when I use KeepVid, I’ve been getting the option to download a “high quality” MP4 file. There’s no guarantee, but the quality is usually higher than the FLV version.

As no. 13 said, firefox and download helper. You can download any video from any website. Adblock plus and Filterset.g are other nice bonus’s so you don’t have to *Cough look at annoying ads.

Why not just use Orbit Downloader? That one is free and downloads movies not only from YouTube but also every other website that hides it videos/music inside flash players.
