A 55 minute, 720p documentary based on the history of the space telescope was recently pre’d by iBEX. It is narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson, the host of PBS NOVA.

    The telescope's history is more than 2200years old.

    @1, the telescope was first used by Thomas Harriot in England in 1609 to make astronomical observations (of the Moon and Sunspots). The actual design of a refracting tube was only invented in 1608 in Holland. Everything before that involved developments in optics and lensing, but nothing developed and refined for astronomy.

    Yes, telescope is 400 years old, before that all development is related with optics and initial level binocular.
