4 Months 3 Weeks And 2 Days 2007 LiMiTED PROPER DVDRip XviD-NOsegmenT

Group NOsegmenT bring us a new LiMiTED release, this time, a romanian drama. The movie have a good rating on IMDb (8/10) so will be interesting. Previous NEPTUNE’s release is overcropped, so enjoy this fine proper. You can download video sample for quality check here.

Plot: During the course of one day in 1987 in Communist Romania, Otilia helps her friend and roommate Gabita to get a late-term abortion done (at that time, any sort of abortion, as well as any kind of contraceptive were illegal in Romania). The dialogue certainly is very realistic, but the movie itself is pretty soulless. It’s much more like a pseudo-documentary of one day in the life of of this woman that organises an abortion for her friend, but there is no real point to the movie.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the intellectual, post modern, nihilistic type of films of the French school. Some are engaging even if ultimately unsatisfying in their bleakness, but this movie just lacks direction. At the end of it you just think ’so what?’. The characters aren’t sympathetic, in fact they are quite annoying. Now of course you can say ‘thats how life is, not always exciting, not always full of loveable characters’ etc. but this misses the point. Most people watch a movie for entertainment or enlightenment on some universal theme or to see how the ‘other’ lives, and just watching this to see how life was in 1987 Romania is quite a wasted exercise, as you can’t gleam much from it apart from the fact that it seems bleak and abortion is illegal.
The director has said that it’s not a movie primarily about abortion, but I couldn’t really see what else it was about. Maybe loyalty? Maybe to have a dig at the ‘intellectuals’ that have a comfortable life oblivious to the real world suffering of the ‘proles’ as the scene with the woman’s boyfriend hints at? Maybe it’s against the repressive system under Ceausecu, though there is little effidence in the movie of any real fear apart from the illegal abortion? All these themes seem to be hardly in the movie, they just appear here and there, only to disappear.

Sure the critics loved it, like they love Peter Greenaway movies, so if you have no opinion of your own and like things only because some pompous fool says it’s great then you’ll love this film uncritically.

P-iss off d-ickhead. Just because I don’t like this movie and explained a bit why, doesn’t mean that I’m at your limited level of intellect. You have no risposte beside making up an imaginary movie based on a comedy that is more like the Police Academy series that you no doubt prefer.

It’s really not a bad movie. It’s more than just about abortion, it’s about what life was like during the communist times, when it was difficult for parents to get sweets for their children. It was a grim period and 4-3-2 shows that perfectly. The actors played really well and the director did a great a job. I personally liked the movie and I think the jury at Cannes last year wouldn’t give the Palme d’Or to an average or “soulless” movie.
I agree it’s not your average commercial movie, it’s more suitable for film festivals (I myself have seen it at a festival last year), but still it’s a good movie.

@ igor - while some people did expect it to get nominated for Oscars, it wasn’t. It did, however, win the Palme D’Or at Cannes.

Well played, well directed, but not entertaining. Watch it if you like “artsy” movies.

@2 Isla Fish: this is a new realease and they did post this movie on time: http://www.rlslog.net/4-months-3-weeks-and-2-days-2007-limited-dvdrip-xvid-neptune/

@6 This is bad: Tks for the review, it was actualy very precise and at least convinced me not to loose my time over this.

@11 Ana: U still didnt give enough good arguments that would change my mind. Agree with you on the souless issue though.
But by being a palm d’or winner doesnt actualy make this a good movie.
Btw what did u mean by “the director did a great job.”?

I meant he did a good job in the way the movie was filmed. The camera angles and the atmosphere caught on camera were just right.
I really don’t know how a person that has not lived under a communist regime, or someone who knows almost nothing about it would react to this movie. Probably they wouldn’t understand it. But I think it’s worth watching. And winning a Palme d’Or is an achievement because it’s not given as easily as an Oscar. Lately Oscars have been to all sorts of not so good movies.

nice release. i had this on a spare hard drive but lost it. didnt have the subs anyway.

this movie makes me feel proud for being romanian. this is a very heavy film with many complex aspects about the lives of the romanians in the time of comunism. if you really want to watch an “entertaining” movie go watch drillbit taylor or other stupid comedy; if you’d like to see an intelligent movie a masterpiece, you’re in the right place

My wifes romanian & grew up in the era the film is set…she thought the film was pointless & souless….found the lead character’s “pregnant friend” incredibly annoying and felt yet again it gives a bad depiction of romania….nothing to be proud of. She wants to know whats happened to good “entertaining” romanian movies? Like Comedies? Musicals? Childrens films? Many romanian filmmakers need to get past with these bleak depressing communist era movies & go out and ENTERTAIN….that was then this is now.

Well, I’m not really into artsy movies. But I saw this movie twice, once in a theater and once at home with my parents. Let me say that I’m romanian, but I have only scattered memories from what happened during the communist era.
This movie was great. As it’s said, it’s not about abortion, it’s not even about communists, it’s not about the bleak atmosphere, it’s about all of those things. And above all, it’s a story about friendship. It had a profound impact over me, made me move inconfortably in my chair, shocked me just a bit. The story is simple: in a country where abortion is forbidden, two girls try to find an alternative; the alternative comes but with a price.
The acting is top notch, Anamaria Marinca delivers a breathtaking performance, Vlad Ivanov is cruel and chilling. The camera is detached and cruel capturing perfectly the dark, tiring, bleak atmosphere, there are long still shots, there’s also a great handheld shot when Otilia is running.
Let me end this saying that this movie ain’t a conventional one, but it might just make an impression over you. Because this one is about friendship and humanity.

@RangeRover: The original DVD subtitles are encoded in a movie in a bitmap format. i.e. it’s just small pictures placed over the movie. Ripped raw subtitles are in .sub format which contains those very many small pictures, usually packed (rar, zip) and they are about 1-3MB when it’s a single language and can be more than 5MB if they contain multiple languages. You’ll see an .idx and a .sub file.
To have your typical neat .txt file, someone bothered to convert them (and it’s not a completely automated procedure) to a .txt file.
So it’d be nice if you (and I’m not talking only to YOU) can leave a “thank you” message when you get them in a nice tiny .txt file.

Not only that abortion was forbidden by law, contraception was a no-no too. If you were a foreign woman visiting Romania, they counted your pills for the duration of your visit when you entered the country. Having such info, for example the scene where Otilia confronts her boyfriend with the real possibility of an unwanted pregnancy get’s more value.

Also a romanian, grew in that era, agree with @6 and @23.
The story is realistic, heard many stories like that in those years, but as a movie I didn’t like it at all, neither acting or directing. Cinematography is also not to rememeber at all, except a scene. A gave it 4/10.
A much better movie - from all points of view - was released this year: Restul e tacere (The rest is silence), 8/10. Curious if I’ll hear someting about it. Thinking of festivals…
And of course, prizes are nothing, especially for foreign movies. Politics most of the time. :)
