MG:

No it doesnt, it has 1000:1 real contrast, rest is software
based calculations that differensiate dynamicly when the
image get darker to compensate.
I use one at work, cant say its any better than a normal 1k:1 monitor.

Tho its pretty cheap, and not awfully looking.

Other LCD monitors have the same thing.

Anywho, this screen tho looks sweet :) gief plx.

Sexy, These will probably be where LCD's are today in 5 years or so, once the burn out issue is fixed. I can see this motivating the GPU industry to move forward with far more denser poly / shader /aliasing tricks as well. I hope it eventually pushes the LCD market down into the basement where CRT prices are now. Even today, a decent dual monitor system is much cheaper if you go the CRT route then LCD (providing you have the desk space).

I would check out Universal Display's, there work on AMOLED's shows real promise once they create a longer lasting molecule for the blue and green colors. If you check around on other sites this first generation OLED screen was made at 24" on the diagonal, and was the first display of it's size to support 1080p standard, which is huge. This future display technology is set for full production as early as 2008, so keep watching.

They have still not perfected the art of keeping these alive long enough to make them give enough of value for money spent.

This is old news ;) Try looking up "Dupont" on google and reading up on "PLED" and "PHOLED" and while you are at it check "E Ink" for flexible paperthin displays - technology is already used in a bunch of products... If you own stock in the paperindustry - SELL SELL SELL. =)

If you are still interested in more you should read about "polymere transistors" that are transparent... just think of the possabilities.

In case you are wondering - I'm doing some market research in conjunction with displaytech...

OLED displays are definitely the way to go. Fantastic contrast resolutions and 8-Bit RBG that covers more than 100% of the NTSC colour gamut. OLED is also self illuminating which means you don't need a back light, hence the thinness of the screens; no back light means low power consumption. OLED is better at displaying fast moving images than any other flat panel system on the market.

There is a downside though. The 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio will slowly loose it's brightness over time, dropping to 500,00:1 or less. But, that is still a hell of a lot better then LCD or Plasma.
