300 720p HDDVD x264-SEPTiC

300 is one of those films that you really appreciate in high resolution and quality, one of the reasons I downloaded the DVDR, and I rarely ever download DVDRs. 720p group SEPTIC brings us the full HD DVD version of 300, to download before the July 31, 2007 street date. This is one to get for the die-hard fans, if you can’t download it from torrents it is waiting for you on usenet. Even though I don’t have a HD DVD playback system, I’ll burn this onto DVD for safekeeping when I do :) .

In the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian army in the mountain pass of Thermopylae. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the enemy in one of the most famous last stands of history. Persian King Xerxes lead a Army of well over 100,000 (Persian king Xerxes before war has about 170,000 army) men to Greece and was confronted by 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and other Slave soldiers. Xerxes waited for 10 days for King Leonidas to surrender or withdraw left with no options he moved. The battle lasted for about 3 days and after which all 300 Spartans were killed. The Spartan defeat was not the one expected as a local shepherd named Ephialtes defected to the Persians and informed Xerxes of a separate path through Thermopylae, which the Persians could use to outflank the Greeks.

    Actually it’s a x264 stream in a mkv container, no AACS or DRM bullshit. Therefore you don’t need HD-DVD equipment to play it, a (semi-)powerfull pc, a mkv enabled player like:
    - vlc [videolan.org]
    - mplayer [http://mulder.dummwiedeutsch.de/home/?page=projects#mplayer], - combo of haali-mediasplitter with ffdshow
    - or the CCCP-Pack [http://www.cccp-project.net/]),

    and a display with 1280×720+ is enough (again, no AACS present, hence no DVI+HDCP or HDMI necessary).
    Wellcome to the world of fine HD-Rips!

    I saw this movie on a dvdrip a while ago. It’s nice but some of the fighting scenes are childish and a bit exaggerated. Its not as good as people make out of it. Worth watching though but once only.

    July 22nd, 2007 | 10:57

    The HDDVD when it’s released is going to be a combo disc, HD-DVD one side standard DVD on the other.

    This is one of the few films I’d wait and buy. Don’t have HD yet but once I do I’ll have this ready to give me an eyegasm.

    And p2p, it’s based on Frank Millers original series - it’s meant to be like that!

    Didnt like the movie at all, but kickass to look at. Nice quality, but to much noise for my taste. I mean, just look at the samples. I know that is deliberately done, but just looks a bit bumpy. Great sound, tho. And don’t think it will play on PS3.

  12. qwerty
    July 22nd, 2007 | 11:20

    @9:

    The mediaplayer of the PS3 doesn’t play mkv containers. Another case would be, if you have a linux installed and a media center running in there (but maybe it wouldn’t be fast enough, as not all the PS3 hardware is supported under linux atm).

    if you believe the myth of 300 winning from 100000000000, you are officially a moron.

    second, this was a very homosexual movie with average hollywood acting. in fact propaganda, probably funded by homeland security, lol!

  20. qwerty
    July 22nd, 2007 | 13:29

    @17:

    Depends on what type of HD-DVD player you own ;-)

    This torrent contains a mkv-file, made by ripping a HD-DVD. This is the same procedure we used for DVD, ripping them to avi-files. Within the avi (or mkv-file), many different codecs for video and audio data can be used. Therefore the answer would be maybe, but probably not.
    Again, said torrent links to a file which has nothing in common with the original HD-DVD; container-format, data structure, audio- and videocodes are different. So your HD-Player could play it only if it can

    -read burned DVDs and the used file system (UDF?)
    -read the container format used (mkv)
    -read the used codec (x264)

    Unless it’s a media-center pc with the apropriate plugins I’d say no.

    @Qwerty

  23. Gary Busey
    July 22nd, 2007 | 14:12

    Usenet FTW!!! This one is definitely not for torrent n00bs, i see you all complaining maybe you need to upgrade your connection speed, use Usenet, or just learn how to stream HD video from your computer to your HD display. No need to burn them to a dvd. probably dont have the seeders or bandwidth anyways if you are using torrents still. downloading it from Usenet right now at 10Mbps, should be done in 20 minutes.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X.264

    Best decoder out so far (uses like 40-50% less CPU than VLC or other decoders.) Works good with MediaPlayerClassic. Not free, but a cracked version is out there, search for it : CoreAVC.H264.Video.Decoder.v1.3.0.0

    Converting HD to DVD (MPEG2) is like pissing against the wind. Get the DVDR instead if you intend to use a dvd player, or are stupid enough to even thinking about re-encoding.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD

    Old TV’s have way to small resolution for HD [648 x 486 is NTSC ,720 x 576 PAL] you need at least 1280×720 to watch 720p movies. For 1080i/p movies you need 1920×1080 (p=progressive scan i=interlaced) So LCD or Plasma is the thing.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet

    Use NzbOmatic or Forte Agent or other news client to get the files. NZB is files like torrent files, but only for Usenet.
    NZB download step by step guide : http://www.techsono.com/nzb/index.html

    Usenet is fast, way faster than torrents, and its anonymous!!!!
    To understand more about the basics of Usenet, go to http://tgos.org/newbie/

    Hope someone finds this helpful :)

    @50

    I think the aXXo comment was a ironic joke, cause most ppl now by now that aXXo is home made low res crap, and for n00bs only. There is loads of 4-8GB x.264 and wmvhd files out there, so I do not understand the need to bee an ass. You are looking in the wrong places my friend. There is torrent sites for HD only and all NZB places have x.264 sections (or HD video as NZBMatrix calls it). If you only look at this page my friend, you need to get more active searching. are you able to convert x.264 to avi ? or can you just rename the extension to avi my ps3 wont play x.264

  58. July 23rd, 2007 | 04:36

    @ jroc261
    I think you are a bit confused. Avi is a wrapper/container, x.264 is a codec. Like xvid or divx it is a mpeg4 codec. Avi files can be “filled” with all sorts off codecs, just like wmv can. But you can re-encode x.264 to xvid, but you will loose quality. (and there are good xvid versions out all over the net so why bother.Most of the xvid ones use avi as container/wrapper.) x.264 HD rips use mkv instead of avi. (Matroska)

    by far the easyest AVC/H264 encoder, give 900kbit/s a try with your

    AVC/x264 does infact get the filesize right down when you use the correct settings, however in the case of this encode, its not really true HD if you play it and look at the data.

    the quality is still the best iv seen so far though, so still werth the download.

    I’ve found that VLC isn’t good at all for playing HD files unless you have a super computer lol.

    Just use media player classic, coreavc, and x264. I was able to play HD stuff back when I had a 128mb dedicated video card, and only a gig of ram, with a pentium 4. So you don’t need the best computer out there, although I’m sure it helps. Right now though I have 2gb ram, and a 512mb dedicated card, and I have not had a problem with any HD files except 1080p which I can’t play. 720p and 1080i play fine though.

    And to the person debating the size of HD files, I’m sure they said the same thing before, “There’s no way this a DVD file, DVD is 4gigs how do they get it down to 700mb?” lol

    18 hours to get, normally over 100kb/s on utorrent, well worth it. Now if I can find out a easy to convert to DVD, plays well on VLC, 64MB Radeon 9550 Mobility, 1GB RAM.

    I downloaded using usenet, got it relatively quickly ~4hrs. Great quality, considering im watching at 1600×1200 res. File number 65 I had to re-download because it was quarantines by my anti-virus software, turned it off and it downloaded fine.

    Just letting people know that this works, watched it with VLC on a T2500 Core Duo w/ 2gb of mem.

    If the video does not playback in VLC, check the ‘messages’ and if you see this: main video output : late picture skipped then your CPU is too slow. Playing back videos has nothing to do with memory, or video card. It has EVERYTHING to do with your CPU, of course unless you pay for purevideo to use your on-chip nvidia GPU x264 decoder, but then again thanks to the bastards who choose not to open source the specs for the accelerated decoding: it only works with windows. (losers)

    For better speed use IPFilter and eliminate those nasty: MOVIEX and PUSSYTORRENTS trackers!

    300.2006.720p.BluRay.x264.PROPER-hV

    The hV release is sharper than the SEPTiC one, the hV also has a higher bitrate, ensuring better quality.

    I’d expected the quality to be a little better! Doesn’t the movie has a strange pixelization? Or is just me imagining things?

    @ silvergellar: If You’ll have a hd-dvd recorder that can decode .mkv files (which is highly improbable) then why not… Don’t be affraid to ask. Evryone has to start somewhere…

    Virus inside a movie? LOL! I dont think so! Change the antivirus because it sucks!(False alarm by far). Movie play well with Bsplayer! BTW: There is a problem with the sample but the movie is OK! Worth downloading!

    unrar’d to .mkv file.
    convertxtodvd ran and the file is too big to fit on normal dvd+r.
    So, reduce file how? or, alternative method to go from .mkv to .avi, or .mkv to smaller file to dvd??

    Very impressed with the quality of this. Looks great on my 38inch LCD. Took a while to download but the quality is perfect, and there isn’t the stops-halfway-through problem of the sample. 4.3GB is a perfect size for a HD movie, so lets see some more of this!!
