I told you just now, big release is coming, I’m no bluffing right :) That’s right, our Chinese friend iMBT released the BDRip of last year’s big movie “2012″, which is a science fiction apocalyptic disaster film based loosely on the 2012 phenomenon and directed by Roland Emmerich. Size is 2CD, sub included, check it out!

PLOT: Dr. Adrian Helmsley, part of a worldwide geophysical team investigating the effect on the earth of radiation from unprecedented solar storms, learns that the earth’s core is heating up. He warns U.S. President Thomas Wilson that the crust of the earth is becoming unstable and that without proper preparations for saving a fraction of the world’s population, the entire race is doomed. Meanwhile, writer Jackson Curtis stumbles on the same information. While the world’s leaders race to build “arks” to escape the impending cataclysm, Curtis struggles to find a way to save his family. Meanwhile, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes of unprecedented strength wreak havoc around the world.

    These subs are different than the normal ones that most people use. The normal ones are usually .srt files and these are .sub files, which is an image file instead of a text file. Make sure that the files have the same name as the avi file and make sure that you have the .idx file in the same folder as the avi.

    You should have a total of 6 files in the same folder, in order to play the movie with the subs. Below is a list of all the files you need to have. I still don’t know how to convert them to.srt files so that a stand alone DVD player can plat the movie with subs. It would be nice if they would hardecode the subs. However, I hate how when they do hardcode the subs, that the movie is usually cropped where the bottom half of the subs are cut off.

    I kinda wish the non-english parts were hard subbed too, so I could join the whole movie into one file to keep. (I know how to watch it as is with the subs).

    If anyone knows the procedure or a link to directions on how to hard code the subs into the avi, so that I can use Virtual Dub to append avi segment, or any other method to end up with one file (avi or mkv) that includes subs, please post! Not sure how to do this myself.

    @191 Marty McFly – You’re very welcome. First time I’ve had a go at editing something like that, but was able to use a couple of previous files from others to do it (Plus Subtitle Workshop)

    Agreed, it would be nice to have a single file with it all in, especially as I want to play them on my PS3, so……… with a bit of help from Google, i find a forum that mentions a free (I like free) app called AVIAddXSubs which can be found at http://www.calcitapp.com/AVIAddXSubs.php

    As long as you have the avi, and the srt file named the same and in the same folder, you simply download the zip file, extract to a folder, run the AVIAddXSubs.exe (it seems to be a standalone app and doesn’t install, so you’d have to run this exe file each time you want to do this) file, use the browse button on the window that pops up to select the avi file, and then hit the Start button. It took me about 3 mins to do it on this particular file, and what it does is create a file with the same name, but with a .divx extension that includes your avi and all the subs in one.

    I’ve pinched the following excerpt straight off their website as it explains it better than I would:

    This effect is achieved through a srt conversion to another format where the subtitles are stored as bitmaps already prepared in your PC.
    This conversion process, takes a few minutes (or a few seconds in many cases) and it doesn’t re-encode the video so its quality remains exactly the same. The generated subtitles are “soft”, not burned in the picture, so the user is able to activate/deactivate through his/her player’s remote control the same way it does at normal DVD playback.

    You can then if you wish rename the file from your_file.divx to your_file.avi if you prefer. Popped it onto a hard disk and on to my PS3 and lo and behold, one file with built in subs which can be enabled or disabled via the menu options on the player – Love it.

    First time I’ve tried it, but worked like a charm for me, and took no time at all, so hope this helps someone ( even if you’re an Xbox user :-> )

    174/U8MYR!CE™ “Dammit, I hate 2 CD size. People are still this stupid”

    Theres a 720p just a couple down if you’re looking for bigger. Although its 1.5 DVD5, personally wish 720p’s were always 1 DVD5.

    If you’re meaning you wanting 1cd, then you’re the one who’s “still” stupid. 700mb no way to fit 5.1 sound… and if you STILL want mp3 stereo, you’re the one living in the past!

    I reccommend the scene comes up with a new standard, since DVD5s are cheap and people have more bandwidth these days.. 1/2 DVD5! Then they could always fit 5.1 and always be decent quality.

    205, I couldn’t agree with you more. Time to move on from 700mb multiples and move to new standards.

    720p of this film should be 4.38 GB (it’s quite long) and the BRRip and or dvd rips should be 2.19 GB. This should be standard now!

    Even you’re most basic dvd rip should be aiming at 1.1 Gb not 700mb.

    AviAddXSubs doesnt work for me. It appears to run fine but no subs shown in the output file in mpc or vlc. Plus MPC tells me its not interleaved correctly. If anyone knows another tool to add hard subs to an avi, please advise.

    @228 – Use AviReComp. It’s easy and it works with srt subs – just select file input and output, go to “additions”, check box “enable / disable, click “load subtitles” and select sub file, then Queue>add to queue. Repeat for second any other files (disc 2 for example!) and click Start.
