History Channel Disasters of the Century Second Narrows Bridge DSR XviD-G4L

A cool TV-Rip of a show documenting the history of the Second Narrows Bridge (Ironworkers Memorial Crossing) located in Vancouver B.C, Canada. This is when the scene really comes useful to me, as it gives me the opportunity to finally learn about something that is close by. On June 17, 1958, several spans of the new bridge collapsed, and 79 workers plunged 30 metres (100 ft) into the water. Eighteen were killed either instantly or shortly thereafter, possibly drowned by their heavy tool belts.

A diver searching for bodies drowned later, bringing the total fatalities for the collapse to 19. In a subsequent Royal Commission inquiry, the bridge collapse was attributed to human error on the part of one of the engineers who died at the scene. A temporary arm, holding the fifth anchor span, was deemed too light to bear the weight.

History.caWikipedia

The new Second Narrows Bridge was built across the Burrard Inlet to replace the old bridge, which had been repeatedly hit by ships ever since its opening. In June of 1958 a group of 59 workers were building the sixth span of the bridge. Without warning, the span’s front end drooped downwards and collapsed into the water. Men were thrown into the water or dragged down into the wreckage, attached to the steel beams by safety belts. Eighteen men died in the accident.

The 56th Annual Miss Universe Pageant PDTV XviD-STFU

Every year there is a world-wide beauty pageant that does nothing, except provide as a beauty contest. (sorry I could not think of any other better way of describing it) This release is a few days old and so there’s no use of me not already telling you what you already know. It was won by Riyo Mori of Japan. The pageant was co-hosted by Mario Lopez and Vanessa Minnillo, both first-time hosts of the Miss Universe pageant. Some interesting facts: As Zuleyka Rivera was crowning Riyo Mori with the official Mikimoto crown, it slipped from her grasp and nearly fell to the floor. Mori was able to catch the crown, which is made of diamonds and pearls and is valued at over $250,000. Rachel Smith, Miss USA, was booed during and loudly jeered during her final interview. This was the first year since 2002 that the judges’ average scores were shown on television.

The 2007 Miss Universe pageant will be held in Mexico City and hosted by Vanessa Minnillo and Mario Lopez. Eduardo Videgaray will host the pre-show.

Crusade In Jeans 2006 DVDRip XviD-SSF

Group SSF stirred the surface of this boring day with their dvdrip of Crusade In Jeans. This is a family movie (originally called “Kruistocht in spijkerbroek”) based on a classic Dutch novel, the target age would be probably something like 15 years, so nothing for fans of brutal horrors. Although it’s a Dutch movie, this release contains English audio so you won’t have any problems understanding the story. The 2 CD release allowed sceners to include AC3 audio as well.

The Fifteen year old Dolf uses a prototype time machine and gets stuck in the Dark Ages. He gets struck down by bandits, but is saved by the beautiful and tough Jenne. She is part of a children’s crusade: eightthousend children on their way to Jerusalem to free the city of the Persians. Dolf helps the children to defy the terrible mountains, to conquer disease and to fight evil knights. Slowly Dolf begins to realize, the real danger does not lurk behind the next mountaintop, but the danger is the crusade itself. Dolf suspects the charismatic leader of the crusade, father Anselmus, to use him as a pawn in his horrifying plan…

Tears From The Sky – Boredomville (2007)

Here’s another metal rock band “Tears From The Sky” they have released their second album yesterday which is called “Boredeomville”. The release is from AMRC so should expect good quality audio. I have not listened this album yet but hopefully this album will be better than the previous metal band posted on here. Enjoy!

Tears From The Sky is a Metal/Rock band from Montreal, QC, Canada. The band was formed in 1999 and released 2 demos in their early days. Their debut album, Power Symbol, was released in 2005 under Life Sentence Records. In 2006, the band recorded their first LP “Boredomville” with producer Pierre Remillard (Cryptopsy, Ion Dissonance, Despised Icon) and will release it under Quebec’s LostCity Industries May 29th, 2007.

While the metal and hardcore scenes continue intermarrying with undeniable regularity, themajority of bands both big and small are still ruthlessly pigeonholed into their respectivescenes and given little chance by the fans of either genre. Record labels, with theoccasional exception, tend to intensify this polarization of appeal by only signing certaintypes of bands. A new vision is needed on behalf of a label, and new ground must bebroken, if the two genres are to be taken seriously together as one, rather than justside-by-side. Tears From The Sky, one of Montreal’s sole survivors of the hardcore
uprising of the nineties and easily one of the most triumphant integrations of the two age-oldstyles the province of Quebec has ever produced, have not only succeeded in blendingthe two styles without pretension, they have revived the promise of self-empowerment through heavy music.

With the upcoming debut full-length Boredomville that will be out on Quebec’s LostCity Industries (Owned by ex and current members of A Perfect Murder) May 29th 2007, Tears From The Sky have successfully begun writing a new chapter in their history, and one that is sure to surpass the already high standard they set for themselves throughout years past. Boredomville was recorded by Pierre Remillard (Cryptopsy, Gorguts, A Perfect Murder), giving the album a bass-heavy and reverberating mix that fittingly showcases their modernized Metal’n'roll signature sound. Upon its release, the band will embark on a road assault that will take them to countries as-of-yet uninitiated to the command Tears From The Sky bring forth. Expect big things from
them in 2007.

Microsoft Surface: a little special table

Microsoft somehow shocked me this morning when he announced a really sweet new product. We don’t know this yet, but it may be the same revolution as Apple’s mouse few decades ago. Microsoft Surface, which will be demonstrated today at the All Things Digital conference, provides instant interaction between people and digital content using hand gestures on a touch screen. “With Surface, we are creating more intuitive ways for people to interact with technology,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said. We see this as a multibillion dollar category, and we envision a time when surface computing technologies will be pervasive, from tabletops and counters to the hallway mirror. Surface is the first step in realizing that vision.”

In its current form, Surface is incorporated into a 30″ display mounted into a table. This allows user involvement to expand beyond just one person. Surface is capable of recognizing input from not just one finger, but multiple up to dozens of inputs simultaneously. This technology isn’t exactly new as Apple uses a less complex version on its iPhone and “multi-touch” technology was demonstrated by Jeff Han to much fanfare last year. Microsoft, however, is bringing multi-touch to the masses. Users can perform tasks such as browsing through pictures and music files by simply using their fingers. For users operating Surface in restaurants, a simple touch of the screen could allow you to order a beverage during a meal.

Surface also has the ability to read bar codes on items to provide further information to the user. “This means that when a customer simply sets a wine glass on the surface of a table, a restaurant could provide them with information about the wine they’re ordering, pictures of the vineyard it came from and suggested food pairings tailored to that evening’s menu,” said Microsoft. “The experience could become completely immersive, letting users access information on the wine-growing region and even look at recommended hotels and plan a trip without leaving the table.” Microsoft also notes that the transfer of digital content is also possible with Surface. So it’s not too hard to envision being able to set your Zune on Surface and transfer your playlist or video files for playback on the 30″ display. Microsoft also released a nice short video clip showing the features of this new super gadget. With a 30-inch screen, Surface will initially sell for between $5,000 and $10,000. Damn, I’m quite excited, and that doesn’t happen that often with MS products.

Directory Opus v9.0.0.4-YAG

Directory Opus is another interesting application which may do a lot of good in your computer – it’s basically a replacement for Windows Explorer which offers everything but user-friendly environment. Although I prefer Total Commander which is yet another level in developement, Directory Opus will be more than enough for standard users used to classic Windows file manager. This is a tiny utility with a lot of potential.

Directory Opus is the complete File Management and Explorer Replacement Solution for Windows. A file manager is, at its simplest, a utility program which presents lists of files and allows the user to perform actions of some kind on those files. File managers are useful for moving files between folders, making backup copies of files, viewing pictures and playing sounds, running other utility programs on lists of files, deleting unwanted files and many other “housekeeping” tasks.

Directory Opus goes beyond the simple file manager metaphor, and offers you a complete replacement for Windows Explorer and many other utility programs for handling FTP, ZIP, viewing files and images, running slideshows and more. It provides you with all this within a user-friendly and fully-configurable environment within which you can access and manage your important data with a minimum of effort. Harness the power of your computer like never before!

Toshiba returns into CPU battle

After a break of several years Toshiba Corp. is about to introduce a laptop computer powered by an Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) processor. The world’s number four laptop PC maker said the new machine will be available soon in the U.S. and Europe. It will be aimed at the entry-level sector of the market, said Junko Furuta, a spokeswoman for Toshiba in Tokyo. No other details about the laptop were immediately available although Toshiba suggested its U.S. and European divisions could be making an announcement soon.

The design win for AMD comes as it is stepping up the pressure against rival Intel Corp. in the expanding laptop sector. Intel has just launched its new Santa Rosa laptop platform and in response AMD is readying its own platform called Puma, however that isn’t likely to launch until mid-2008. The two companies are locked in competition at the bottom-end of the market too. AMD scored the contract to supply chips for One Laptop Per Child’s “$100 laptop” after which Intel introduced its own machine for emerging markets, the Classmate PC. Toshiba stopped using AMD chips in laptops around 2001 — something that was highlighted in court documents when AMD launched an antitrust suit against Intel almost two years ago.
