Samsung developed 1GB chip for handhelds

The world minimalization continues, and these Asian manufacturers are again on the lead: Samsung has developed a thin, low-power 1GB chip for portable devices such as cameras, media players and game consoles. The 1GB Mobile DRAM which the South Korean manufacturer claims is an industry first using 80-nanometer process technology, will start shipping in the second quarter of 2007, the company said Wednesday. Samsung believes the new chip will be more cost-effective than other high-density mobile chipsets.

The chip has a new temperature-sensing feature that maximizes the self-refresh cycle to reduce power drain in standby mode by 30 percent over conventional memory chip designs, according to Samsung. It’s also thinner, which could enable a high-density package system of 1.5GB or even 2GB Mobile DRAM memory. Samsung says it could be combined with Flash memory for even more capacity. Where’s this going to stop? I’ve already some problems inserting MicroSD card into my cell phone, and it will be probably only worse :) .

Premium 2006 Festival DVDSCR XViD-VillageidiotS

The Christmas release break when almost no good releases come to the place is here – luckily, I’ve a nice collection of these Academic DVD screeners to watch so it’s not that big loss. Anyway, there are still some movies being released in this time, and “Premium” is one of them. Presented at Bahamas Film Festival and now released by VillageIdiotS on 1 CD with usual MP3 sound and average bitrate, this romantic comedy targets mainly women, but may be you will have some fun watching it as well…

Reginald “Cool” Coolidge is a struggling actor, fed up with taking stereotypical African American roles and waiting for his big break in a legitimate production. Until this time comes, he works at his mother’s boyfriend’s gas station to repay him for covering his college tuition. One day at the station, his ex-fiancée – and one true love – reappears at the pumps after 3 years of silence. Cool discovers that it is 36 hours until her wedding to a local lawyer. As Cool embarks on last-ditch attempts to win her back, he takes on the biggest “role” of his life while also learning the secret to mastering his craft.

Jungle Book 2 WS DVDrip XviD AC3-GEN

Gen is bringing us some good old movies we’d all forgotten about. Jungle Book 2, well actually I’ve never seen it so I can’t really say anything about it. Hmm, it’s pretty late as well… (6:15, this is when you realize you have no life at all.)

Mowgli feels out of place in his new home, despite the efforts of his friend Shanti and his new little brother. So when Baloo arrives for a visit, the man-cub takes the opportunity to return for some fun in the jungle. However, Shanti, believing her friend was taken, follows them. With Shere Khan still on the hunt for him, Mowgli must protect himself and the ones he cares about from the dangers ahead. The new adventures make him reconsider his decisions and decide which he wants more – a life of laid back hilarity with Baloo in the jungle or a simpler existance in the man village with Shanti.

Emirates Airlines first allow phone calls during flight

I was always wondering why is this restriction still held on every flight – calling from your cell phone on board could damage all these radars and high-tech wireless plane equipment, so these mobiles are banned. At least this was what airlines used to tell us. But the big change is really close: After years of getting used to the taboo of mobile phones on airplanes, Middle East-based Emirates Airlines is aiming to shake things up, by becoming what CNN claims is the first commercial air transportation company to allow passengers to use their cell phones during flights, with a current plan to start offering the service next month.

Emirates would not offer cell phone calls for free, though. However, they would only reportedly cost less than $2 a minute on Emirates. An airline company in Australia is also thinking of installing an infrastructure that would allow for in-flight cell phone calls. Currently, there are no solid plans for US airlines to rollout plans for cell phone usage. According to airline consultant Michael Boyd, “There’s no economic incentive for them to do it. Domestically they’re not going to bring anyone extra on to their airplane with that service.” If you think about it, may be it’s not that bad to stay without cell phones onboard. An quick imagination of this overcrowded bus / train / underground full of people shouting into their phones may be a good argument…
