The Good Shepherd DVDSCR XviD-OSiDVD

A newly formed release group OSiDVD has chosen a pretty interesting movie as their first release. The DVD screener of The Good Shepherd will probably become really popular from what I see now, and the combination of Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon and Alec Baldwin will only help it. A great thriller with a decent rating at IMDB together with the great quality of this 2 CD release available just one week after the opening night has only one result: you can’t resist.

Edward Wilson, the only witness to his father’s suicide and member of the Skull and Bones Society while a student at Yale, is a morally upright young man who values honor and discretion, qualities that help him to be recruited for a career in the newly founded Central Intelligence Agency. While working there, his ideals gradually turn to suspicion influenced by the Cold War paranoia present within the office. Eventually, he becomes an influential veteran operative, while his distrust of everyone around him increases to no end. His dedication to his work does not come without a price though, leading him to sacrifice his ideals and eventually his family.

Switchfoot – Oh Gravity (2006) – RNS

Switchfoot is the name of boy rock band, which produces somehow very interesting alternative rock music. Their new album Oh Gravity! is full of explosive tones and lyrics. These guys from San Diego created one of the best rock albums of last months, so if you like this music genre, this shouldn’t miss your collection.

With Oh! Gravity, the San Diego-based modern rock act delivers their best album in years, one that fully reconciles their (Christian) faith with their (considerable) talent. It’s diverse but not overly so, and while the production work of veteran Tim Palmer (U2, Tears for Fears) helps provide a radio-friendly sheen atop everything, it’s actually their least compromised/mainstream sounding record since the group left the indie scene.

From the chiming, revved-up, anthemic title song, which pairs compressed vocals with distorted guitars, to the moody and mildly schizophrenic single “Dirty Second Hands,” this album is loud and dirty, the lyrics are thoughtful and plaintive. Lead singer/songwriter Jon Foreman clearly questions the meaning of the band’s success, and the role they play in the scheme of things: “Like a puppet on a monetary string/Maybe we’ve been caught singing/Red, white, blue, and green/But that ain’t my American dream.” If only Switchfoot’s conscience could be implanted in the bodies of other modern rock acts! The world might not necessarily be a better place, but the radio certainly would be.

Switchfoot is an alternative rock band from San Diego, California, United States, known for its spiritually evocative and socially aware lyricism. The current members are Jon Foreman (vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass, backing vocals), Chad Butler (drums), Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), and Drew Shirley (guitar). With three guitarists in the line-up often operating simultaneously, and Jerome’s work on the synthesizer, the band works up a melodic and densely layered sound with electronic flourishes, often driven by guitar riffs. Switchfoot gained mainstream recognition after the inclusion of four of their songs in the 2002 movie A Walk to Remember.

HD-DVD protection cracked after 8 days

This is a nice message for all creators of protections for games or any other software: For months, we’ve heard how bullet-proof the new Advanced Access Content System (AACS) is. This is the system used in Blu-ray and HD DVD discs to protect content stored on disc from illegal duplication. Well, one user has reportedly found a way to decrypt discs protected by the system now and is offering this program for download via the Internet. Someone must be pretty mad out there, spending months developing something which was cracked in few days.

Late yesterday, a user called Muslix64 posted a vague methodology description on a Doom9.org forum. That user also included a link to a YouTube video he’d created, and uploaded a version of his BackupHDDVD software–described as a Java-based command line utility–to RapidShare.com. His approach includes supplying both the volume key and title key in order to decrypt AACS-encoded disc titles. Although there wasn’t many people who confirmed this method really works, almost all servers reported it – Either this user will be gaining a whole lot of notoriety for claiming this feat; or, a whole lot of net fame as DVD Jon experienced it with cracking DVD protection. Why not to get rid of all protections anyway? They are only making lives of these honest people buying software for real money much harder…

Grim Reaper 2007 DVDSCR STV DVDRip XviD-FiCO

Crappy horrors. FiCO. This is a perfect match, and they just confirmed it again by releaseing nice dvd screener of Grim Reaper, horror scheduled to be released in 2007 on DVDs only. Luckily, these guys know good enough how to make a good rip, so you don’t have to care about the quality…

Death comes for us all, but after surviving a car crash that should have taken her life, Rachel Wilson finds herself stalked by the Grim Reaper himself intending on taking a soul he feels he is owed. Barely conscious in the ER room, Rachel struggles to convince the nurses that Death is coming for her and that her life is hanging in the balance. Supposedly, for her own protection, Rachel is locked up in a secure mental health facility. But it’s not long before she discovers that her incarceration in the old hospital was no coincidence, surrounded by six other “patients” who, themselves, have cheated death. Over the course of the night they will have to face their worst fears, their own mortality, and Death himself.

Mid-range graphics in small benchmark

If you’re in process of choosing new video accellerator, and your budget is somehow limited to buy these high-end beasts (yeah, Christmas, all these presents cost something), here’s a small benchmark to help you with your decision. The chaps over TweakTown take a look at four mid-range graphics cards – two from AMD (ATi) and two from nVidia. You can check results of Radeon X1650XT and GeForce 7600GT which sit at the lower end of the mid-range scale and at the other end we have the GeForce 7900GS and the Radeon X1950PRO. Tests in most popular games like F.E.A.R., Half Life 2, Prey or Company of Heroes should tell you more about the right decision…

GeForce 7900GS and Radeon X1950PRO – we have always said as an out of the box card, the Radeon X1950PRO is the better card as far as pure 3D performance goes. It is consistently faster thanks to the increased core speed, when compared to the GeForce 7900GS. Why nVidia haven’t increased the default core is beyond us (as it loves overclocking, a lot!) but it’s possible that it will take away from the more expensive GeForce 7950GT sales. The 512MB variant of the Radeon X1950PRO doesn’t offer any real performance gains and sits closer to the GeForce 7950GT in terms of price. This particular card we recommend you stay far away from as the GeForce 7950GT manages to beat it in almost every benchmark and offers some overclocking, too.

Idiocracy LIMITED DVDRip XviD-DiAMOND

Funny comedy Idiocracy is now available in a great dvdrip. Released by Diamond on 1 CD with high image resolution and MP3 sound, this release meets all the quality standards. The movie itself is a big unknown for me, but these comedies about American culture and society are oftern very popular. And IMDB only confirms it…

Joe Bauer, an Army librarian, is judged to be absolutely average in every regard, has no relatives, has no future, so he’s chosen to be one of the two test subjects in a top-secret hibernation program. He and hooker Rita were to awaken in one years, but things go wrong and they wake up instead in 2505. By this time, stupid people have outbred intelligent people; the world is (barely) run by morons–and Joe and Rita are the smartest people in America.

The Illusionist DVDRip XviD-DiAMOND

DVDRiP of mysterious but also romantic thriller The Illusionist was released by people from group DiAMOND. This movie somehow missed my attention, but IMDB rating of 7.7/10 seems to be higher than in case of many other movies, so I’ll probably find some time to watch this one. Runtime of 110 minutes would possibly deserve two CD release, but it was released on 1 CD without any visible glitches on the quality…

Director Neil Burger’s screen adaptation of Steven Millhauser’s short story ‘Eisenheim the Illusionist’. Eisenheim (Edward Norton) is a magician in early 1900’s Vienna, who falls in love with a woman well above his social standing. When she becomes engaged to a Crown Prince, Eisenheim uses his powers to free her and undermine the stability of the royal house of Vienna.
