Serious anti-p2p raids in Sweden, Pirate Bay closed
Damn, it’s not that long time since last message about massive busts in fxp scene and now there is another warning for all filesharers. This morning will be probably the worst in the history of The Pirate Bay (TPB): all of their servers were seized and the site is closed now with a message about this raid. The police officers were allowed access to the rack where the TPB servers and other servers are hosted. All servers in the rack were clearly marked as to which sites run on each. The police took down all servers in the rack, including the non-commercial site Piratbyrĺn, the mission of which is to defend the rights of TPB via public debate.
The Pirate Bay was considered as one of the most secure torrent site, with server in Sweden, where were laws not that strict about filesharing. Swedish politics then voted for a new law, which seriously increased the punishements for users sharing warez. We all know these mails which were displayed on their website, refusing every request from companies like Microsoft, Macromedia or Adobe, which wanted to remove their torrents from the server. There are some reasons for this server confiscating, as it’s written on TPB website:
The necessity for securing technical evidence for the existance of a web-service which is fully official, the legality of which has been under public debate for years and whose principals are public persons giving regular press interviews, could not be explained. Asked for other reasoning behind the choice to take down a site, without knowing wether it is illegal or not, the officers explained that this is normal. The TPB can receive compensation from the Swedish state in case that the upcoming legal processes show that TPB is indeed legal.
The current state of this affair is like this: all servers are confiscated, being checked if they were providing illegal content or not. What’s interesting is that servers of Pirate Byran, a partner website of TPB were also seized, although the website provided completely legal information and services. It’s not clear now, whether the website remains offline or it will be back online after few days. Administrators of Pirate Bay reported they want to get it online for every cost, which means also the opportunity to move servers into another country, which wouldn’t consider it as illegal activity.
If we look more in depth, there are some really nasty details: besides confiscated servers, three people, administrators of The PirateBay were arrested and are being investigated now. The usual warranty mentioned by all administrators of torrent websites is that their server doesn’t contain nothing illegal, just small encoded .torrent files. We must wait to the end of this police investigation to definitely say some conlusion but I’m aware that another wave of attacks against torrent websites could be launched in case of TPB marked as illegal. This would have an enormous impact on all torrent websites and indexes (probably including NewTorrents.info), resulting in many closed and confiscated websites.
For now, all torrents with Pirate bay as announce URL don’t work. The only way is decentralized tracking, also known as DHT which allows to connect people with each other, although they will not reach as good speed as in case of working tracker.
I got also some more information about this raid from my swedish friends. Also if you understand swedish, you can read some more articles about it. The people from Sweden talk about 50 policemen entering the serverroom where was Pirate Bay hosted and confiscating whole rack. All servers were visible marked with their URL so it wasn’t a hard task to find the correct ones. There’s also a picture of the person who contacted the police and told them about the servers - this man, Henrik Ponten is now hated by whole Sweden. The nicknames of admins being arrested by swedish police probably include the main admin known as Anakata and also co-admin using nick TiAMO. As the result of this police raid, some other swedish torrent trackers were already closed. The most popular one is probably SweBits.org. Many swedish users already refused visiting The Pirate Bay because they felt the site is being watched and many IPs being logged. Now it looks they were pretty right.
So the situation isn’t just ideal at the moment. I will try to keep you up to date with all hot info about this case, I am also planning some interview with one of available TPB admins. Good luck guys, we all hope you will get over this…
UPDATE #1: MPAA published a press release about the situation. Burn in hell…

The thing we all know is now confirmed: The survey conducted for the Independent on Sunday Newspaper by analysts Nielsen NetRatings found that more than nine million men - almost 40 per cent of the male population - used pornographic websites last year, compared with an estimated 2 million in 2000. However its not just men who have been surfing for some action, the number of women downloading internet porn soared 30 per cent to 1.4 million.
There’s a new limited release for all fans of famous singer Neil Young. “Neil Young: Heart of Gold” is filmed by Oscar winning director Jonathan Demme during two concerts of this performer and you can find also some interesting doceumentary information over there. Quality is OK, with clear picture and mp3 audio. This will not become a blockbuster probably, but it may be nice movie for certain group of people…
Dave Chappelle looks like very popular guy. The only problem is that I’ve never heard about him - may be I’m really out or just don’t listen the hip hop enough, but I really don’t have a clue who is he. However his movie “Block Party” looks quite good at least from IMDB rating so it may be a good choice for fans of such a genre of music…
